I once heard a speaker say: ‘As a man thinks in his heart, so is he, or so shall he become.’ It is remarkable that I remembered this line forever, even though it was before I became a Christian. I did not know at the time that this was a quote from the Bible. Now I have first-hand experience that God’s Word does not return void. YEAH GOD !!!!!
When I am tempted to think bad thoughts about someone, the first thing I do is identify where those thoughts are coming from. Obviously bad thoughts about myself or others are not from God, because HE wants us to fix our thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. and to think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. (Phil. 4:8). I have found it helpful to ask God to change my thoughts. It takes practice, and it can be done.
Proverbs 23:7(a) ‘As a man thinks in his heart so is he’.
To me this ‘SO IS HE’ suggests that I need to MANAGE what thoughts I allow into my mind and heart, and to allow God to renew my mind, my thoughts, and my heart. I am learning to give this over to the Lord, in every moment, so that HE can be free to do HIS amazing work in me. I have a long way to go, and I struggle daily, yet in Philippinas 4:9 God's Word says that if I keep putting into practice all I have learned and received the God of peace will be with me.
Leaning on God increases my strength, because HE gives me HIS strength. When I lean on my own understanding I am at the mercy of my own weakness…(or even worse, the plots ploys and traps of the enemy.) I try to always examine what I am allowing into my mind in the way of television, internet, books, conversations movies and magazines, and I have replaced harmful input with wholesome material. Most importantly I read God's Word every day and pray, and ask HIM to help me to focus on what is important.
God is my source and my all sufficient supply. He is the stream of energy that flows into my heart as I stay connected to HIM. I must guard this connection and communication. It is important and essential to wait upon the LORD, and HE will give me the victory.
Romans 8:11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus Christ from the dead, lives in me. And just as God raised Jesus Christ from the dead, He will give life to my mortal body by this same Spirit living within me.
Blessings to you dear friend. I hope this truly blesses you today,
MaryAnn
