I was humbled and blessed by a conversation earlier today with a gentleman who popped into our church bible study and joined us for lunch afterwards. From the minute the session began, he was speaking Truth in such an elegant and sincere way. I immediately knew something was different about him. He wasn't the type that sat back and simply observed what was going on, nor slipped in questions or comments to be insightful- he knew the truths of the bible and wanted them to be known. His passion…

Reading through Psalms, and these verses have really stood out to me. "Who can discern his errors? Forgive my hidden faults. Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me." Psalm 19:12-13

I have found that reading parts of the Old Testament takes a lot of patience. Not only are names, numbers, and kingdoms sprinkled through seemingly every verse, God's people were downright forgetful, selfish, and stubborn. Especially after Joshua's death, the Israelites (the people of Judah particularly), spend generations after generations, king after king, building up altars to foreign gods and tearing them down. When the land seemed to be "cleansed" of evil, the king's successor…

This post is inspired by a book that most people have heard or even read about: The Magician's Nephew, part of The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis.
I knew C.S. Lewis wrote several Christian books and heard that the Narnia books had an underlying Christian theme, which I saw in the movies. I had only read a book or two of the series back when I was in elementary school, but I saw the whole collection in my sister's room…

I have started a devotional plan called 15 Days in the Word with John Piper, accessed through www.youversion.com
Day 1 focuses on the security of our happiness. What do we derive our happiness from? For many people it is success, fame, reputation, friends, things of this world, etc. However, God calls us to derive our true joy from Him and our security as his children and our…

“American Dream” -Casting Crowns
All work no play may have made Jack a dull boy
But all work no God has left Jack with a lost soul
But he's moving on full steam
He's chasing the American dream
And he's gonna give his family finer things
“Not this time son I've no time to waste
Maybe tomorrow we'll have time to play”
And then he slips into his new BMW
And drives farther and farther and farther away
Cause he works…

I really like these verses that are presented on the "Our Daily Journey" blog, which can be found here.
In Proverbs we find some instruction can make us spiritually healthy (Proverbs 4:23):
Keep your mouth right (…

Be victorious and surrender? How does this work? Don't we lose when we surrender? Well, it all depends on the situation. If we surrender in a game or in some sort of combat, we admit that we cannot win and thus accept defeat. However, in terms of God and our Christian life, when we surrender, we are victorious! Only when we are fully able to trust in God and offer our lives and everything in it can we truly be blessed and honor…

This is a passage that I read on a website called http://www.allaboutfollowingjesus.org. It is filled with words of truth and encouraging information. I decided to paste a clip and bold/underline some important words.
I think the take home message is that living a Christian life is certainly not easy, but we will be victorious as long as we continue to ask and seek God's help.
"But…

I have decided to post entries similar to what I am journaling about, or random quotes of encouragement so that people can see how God is working in my life, and maybe think about how God is working in yours.
So I've been reading a book called Crazy Love by Francis Chan. I decided to write my thoughts on paticular parts that stuck out to me, or may have convicted me.
The section of the book I am reading is…
