I'd like to share with you a prayer by Pr Onesmus. This is the path of his latest devotional conviction.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lord, take a look at my hand.
Take a look at my heart.
Mold it and refine it and set me apart.
I want to run to Your altar to catch the fire,
to stand in the gap for the lost world.
Give me a heart of compassion for the world without vision.
Then I… Continue
What are the things that are important to us in society? What does the world say we need to succeed?
According to most societies, to succeed one needs to be learned (have a good education), to be self-made (strong, determined and confident), and to be well-born (come from good family). Africa is no exception to those expectations. However, what does God say?
Let's take a peak in the Bible and see. In 1 Corinthians 1, look at the ones that God chooses.
"For… Continue
WHAT IF ALL THIS IS RIGHT???
That should be the question we ask when we hear of a brother in desperate need. But I have discovered that the normal human reaction is...
"WHAT IF THIS IS WRONG? WHAT IF IT'S A HOAX? I WILL BE RIPPED OFF!!!"
So we close our wallets and our hearts to the need.
We become more concerned about protecting our precious money than we do about protecting our precious brother.
From some tough experiences…
... AND TELL ME WHERE TO STOP AND REST.
Yesterday, I thinking how perfectly God fits things together, and I remembered a phrase that I'd read in the Living Bible years ago...
"You chart the path ahead of me..."
I managed to find a Living Bible on my shelf and looked it up. In Psalm 139:1-7 it says:
"O Lord, you have examined my heart
and know everything about me.
You… Continue
MAY GOD BE GLORIFIED AS YOU READ THIS STORY! BE ENCOURAGED!!
"All things work together for good to those that love God and are called according to His purpose."
And someone has said that the more bitter the battle, the sweeter is the victory. This has definitely been the case for my friend,
Pastor Atukwatse Onesmus, over the…
"It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in princes." (Psalm 118:8-9, Amp.)
I know I shared these verses before, and that verse 8 is the middle verse in the Bible, but this morning, after mentioning about giants yesterday, my thoughts went back to David and Goliath.…
Do you have a Bible?
Many of us will say, "Yes, I have a number of Bibles on my bookshelf."
And some will say, "No, but I want one so much."
But I have another question....
DO YOU HAVE GOD'S WORD?
The Bible is a wonderful possession, and full of wonderful truths,
but what good would all that be to us if it remained on the shelf?
And even a Bible in our hand will not help us win against…
God is GOOD..................... the Devil is BAD!!
God is LOVE ................. the Devil is HATRED!
God is TRUTH ................ the Devil is a LIER!!
It's the age old battle and yet some people will deny that it is there.
And what is the battle over? The PRIZE POSSESSION, which is US!!
Both God and the Devil are seeking our devotion.
The old song is true when it says....
"YOU'VE GOTTA SERVE SOMEBODY!!"
So the choice is…
Praise the Lord for this new day!! His mercies are new every morning. Ahhhh!! We can start again, leaving yesterday's hassles behind, and tackle the things that bothered us then with a new vigour and a fresh mind. Thank the Lord for a refreshing sleep.
And as I sit with Lord on our front verandah, enjoying my morning cuppa, I marvel in this day. For us it is the first of spring. As I soak up the warmth of the morning sun, I also soak…
This is a shot of my once busy-blossom (grevillea) tree near our front step. This is the tree where I got many bee and lorikeet photos from.
Sadly, this past summer, our tree hasn't had many blossoms, and the branches and limbs were looking pretty sad...
Time for a pruning!!
Now it has lots of new shoots coming up, and I'm looking forward to more great shots when it flowers again in a couple of months.
As I…
(From my study in James - I'm up to chapter 4, verse 4...)
Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?
About this FRIENDSHIP WITH THE WORLD, here's some thoughts I wrote down...
** First is about our GRIP!!
How tightly do we hold on to things?
This reminds me of the story of the monkey with his hand stuck in the peanut jar. He wouldn't let go of the peanuts!! If he let go, his…
Man, that sounds like paradise!! Who in our society wouldn't want that?
David uses this phrase in Psalm 16:11 ...
"You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore."
We can see here that God is not a kill-joy! But many think of Him as being a God of restrictions, where you can't do this and you MUST do that. So instead, they blindly…
We read in the Bible that Jesus went about doing good. (See Acts 10:38.) That included many, many healings and deliverances. And because we are Christ's, we too will only want to seek to do good to others.
However, there is a trap!! We must be careful not to get so caught up in good works, that we are not doing God's work.
Let's look how Jesus handled all this when He was on earth. Even though He was God, He was human like us, with the limitations of a physical body. He…
A Mom was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school. He didn't want his mother to walk with him. She wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet know that he was safe.
So she had an idea of how to handle it. She asked a neighbor if she would please follow him to school in the mornings, staying at a distance, so he…
“It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in man.” (Psalm 118:8, Amp)
The next verse is similar:
“It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.” (v.9)
Say, isn’t that what the Bible is all about? Isn’t it so we will come to know our Maker and put our trust in the One who made us? Besides, He wrote the manual! He knows us, and He knows what is best for…
A little girl walked to and from school daily.
Though the weather that morning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily trek to the elementary school.
As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up, along with lightning.
The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school and she feared the electrical storm might harm her child.
Full of concern, the mother quickly got into…
A minister was completing a temperance sermon.
With great emphasis he said, 'If I had all the
beer in the world, I'd take it and pour
it into the river.'
With even greater emphasis he said, 'And if I
had All the wine in the world, I'd take
it and pour it into the river.'
And then finally, shaking his fist in the air, he
said, 'And if I had all the whiskey in
the world, I'd take it and pour it into
the river.'
Sermon…
Something a little light-hearted, but I'm sure there are some lessons we can learn from it...
ONE day Henny-penny was picking up corn in the cornyard when--whack!-- something hit her upon the head.
'Goodness gracious me!' said Henny-penny; 'the sky's a-going to fall; I must go and tell the king.'
So she went along and she went along and she went along till she met Cocky-locky. 'Where are you going,…
(In our Jesus Discovery Group, we are currently discussing "Grace and Truth" [John 1:14-18]. "[Jesus] came from the Father, full of grace and truth." The OT equivalent is "Mercy and Truth", so I thought I'd share these blog posts which I posted in August 07.)
Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart,
And so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man. (3:3-4,… Continue
(Due to some teaching that comes across in blogs, I thought this was an appropriate scripture to add here... Colossians 2:6-23, NLT. God's Word says it better than I can. May you know the freedom that is found only in Christ.)
6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with…
