At our Tuesday night Bible study, we'd been studying Hebrews. We've just come to the end and finished chapter 13 a couple of weeks ago. It only took us just under two years. (You can't rush these things!!) :-)
Anyhow, rewind eight chapters back!! We were looking at
chapter 5 and talking about the priesthood.
When I think of a priest, I'd think of someone dressed in…

Here are some thoughts from the Bible on "Yokes and Burdens" ...
Firstly, some words from Jesus:
"At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. All things have been delivered to Me by My…

Following on from my previous post
Teamwork ...
After watching these amazing creatures at Timbertown, I just had to do some research about yokes and bullocks/oxen.
BOW YOKE
Here's what I discovered about yokes..
- YOKE - A type of…

There was a BIG discussion going on in the chat room today about riches. And is it right for a Christian to desire wealth? And the love-of-money-is-the-root-of-all-evil verse was quoted.
So what should our attitude be? And why are there some Christians who are very blessed with money, and then other Christians who have nothing? Doesn't it seem a bit unfair on God's part that some have and some don't?
Well, that is questions I've tackled with for years. But at last, I see…

(I was needing somewhere to put some quotable quotes, so I'll use this blog post, and keep adding to it.)
Here's the first one....
It was said in 1904, at the time of the Welsh revival:
"Life with exuberance is to be preferred over death with composure."

Over the past few months, a friend and I have been doing a study in James. We got to the end of chapter 3, which is about wisdom and the difference between worldly wisdom and godly wisdom.
But our study has been interrupted, because we've started on John's gospel in "Jesus Discovery", which has been a blessing.
Anyhow, this morning, I in my devotions I wanted to get back to the thoughts about wisdom, and about how one can become wise. Also, I need something different to…

Your AAG Valentine!! (Taken last night, 14th Feb.)
As I was saying last night, we've done a move. I've brought you all into my pantry. (See previous post.)

Okay, I'd better tell you the proper story. It's a LONG one about how our cat got…

I'm in the middle of cleaning out the pantry, because we're going to have to move. By "we" I mean YOU, my online friends, and me. Now, that's got you scratching your head, eh?
Well, let me explain so that we can be prepared for our big move...
For the past few years, we'd had a pretty full house at our place, which meant I had to move my computer. And, conveniently, we have this HUGE pantry, which years ago, we'd utilised the space to fit our computer in... that was before…

(Some more discoveries in the Jesus Discovery group!)
I got thinking about
LIGHT AND LIFE...
"In Him was life, and the life was the light of men." (John 1:4, NKJ)
As it says in 1 Timothy 6:16, about how
He dwells in unapproachable light! And one of our group said,
"Light is the essence of the universe."
This got me thinking about the most powerful light and energy source we know,
the SUN. Yet it was created by Him who is…

Earlier tonight, like a good Christian, I was reading my Bible for our group, Jesus Discovery. We're looking at the first five verses where John claims that Jesus was/is God.
Anyhow, I got interrupted from my train of thought by an email from a Facebook contact. So instead of coming here, I went to Facebook and checked up on what my family and friends were up to. Anyhow, after some scouting around there, I ended up reading a political report about the financial mess the Rudd…

...GOD HAD A PLAN!!
(I shared this in the Jesus Discovery group. We've just started into John's gospel. If you'd like to join us just ask for an invite.)
He knew that His prize creation, we humans, would sin. He knew that we would mess up His wonderful creation. He knew that we would turn our back on Him. Yet, He still chose to create us.
(I've just done a little search and found this...)
Before God created… Continue

A few of us have started a discovery into John's gopel. The group is called Jesus Discovery. It's not a study where you have someone teaching the others, but rather it IS a DISCOVERY, where we are all discovering more about Jesus together.
Anyhow, here's something that the Lord unfolded to me this morning from our reading in chapter 1. John starts off:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning."…

After talking with a few people on AGG, there seems to be a need to run a study for new Christians, and for those who are isolated. So with the help of a good friend, we'd like to set one up.
This is how we envisage it:
We don't want it to be all head knowledge;
Nor just one or two people teaching the rest.
We'd like it to be like a discovery expedition, where we are…

I've learned some important lessons this week. The most important is, as the title suggests, being in the place where God wants you to be.
And as a Christian, we can be involved in Christian work, but really not doing what GOD wants. If we analyse our motives for being there, it is often to please someone else ... because someone expects us to be there ... because we feel we're needed there. (Besides, what would they do without us.)
But, as I've discovered this week, if we…

... I just found out there is such a thing as offline blog editors. I've just downloaded one called BlogDesk, and I'm using to to write this post.
They say that it saves time and it is much easier to use. So if you're a keen blogger, why not give it a spin.
One catch though...
BlogDesk is only compatible with Windows. But my guess is that there would be something suitable out there for Macs.
Anyhow, here's the link ...…

(Another from the achives... study in Proverbs...)
Wisdom, that is!! Proverbs depicts Wisdom as being a lady, compared to the harlot called Folly.
Here are her credentials:
- Her companion is Understanding, and they both call out to the simple and the foolish ones.
- What she says is excellent, right, true and just, and to those who understand it is VERY plain, and to those who find knowledge it is right.
- You may have the choicest of gold and…

(More from my Proverbs archives...)
Wisdom is the knowledge and ability to make the RIGHT choices at the RIGHT time.
That's what I read in my Vines Bible Dictionary. (Not exactly in those words, but those were the thoughts.)
And as I see it, the whole book of Proverbs IS a description of what wisdom is. It shows us how to make those right choices. It's about how to direct this free will that God has given us. If we didn't have a free will, we wouldn't…

(More from the achives. I find reading something enough, we eventually "get it"!!)
Wisdom!! That's what Proverbs is on about. And if you want to be wise, just read it and do what it says... sounds simple!
And King Solomon, who wrote most of the Proverbs, was so renowned for his amazing wisdom that people would travel hundreds and thousands of miles to hear him.
So really, what IS Wisdom? And what did Solomon have that others didn't?
Well,…
