Rudderless. Romans 1.28-32

Fifteen years old, handsome, talented, smart as a whip, and committed to God—he was every mother’s dream son. He was involved in a before-school accountability group, kept his way pure by reading and studying his Bible, and had position in the…

The Slippery Slope. Romans 1.24-28

The theme of Romans is the righteousness of God, but in order to realize the gift of salvation, man must first realize his moral state--he is a sinner. He is a sinner in need of grace and redemption. As he starts, Paul points his finger at the sin of the…

Honor God, or Go your own way. Romans 1.21-23

Zoom out for a minute with me . . . let’s take a look at where we find ourselves in Scripture. Paul has turned his attention toward the Christians in Rome. In his opening remarks, he comprehensively covers the nature of who Christ is, and what he has done. He makes it clear it is his life’s aim…

The written evidence.

Videotapes, digital photography, and scrapbooks chronicle every nuance

of a proud parent’s bundle of joy. Text messages of my friend’s new

puppy have been coming to my cell phone--each one a testament of how

cute and tiny she is! In case you haven’t noticed, we are a very visual

people, with technology only speeding up our viewing pleasure.

Unfortunately,

we do not have any pictures of God.

When Jesus spoke the world into existence, no one captured… Continue

What if God was one of us?

“What if God was one of us… Just a stranger on the bus, trying to make his way home” . . . Joan Osborne crooned.

The fact is, Joan . . . he was.

Take another look at Paul’s writing to the Roman Christians on the existence

of God-- “They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious

to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the

earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his

invisible qualities—his eternal… Continue

Does God Exist? Romans 1.18-20

What if this God thing is all a big hoax?

So many vitriolic atheists spew THERE IS NO GOD ... could they be right?

Maybe the notion of God is simply born of wishful thinking . . .

How do we know? Can the truth be known?

Let me stop right here and ask you: How do you know that God is real?

Well, how do you??? Think for a moment. Whether you are reading this with a

sari pulled over the screen, so no one can see … or you are in a remote

part of Taiwan … or in a safe… Continue

I am not ashamed of the gospel, are you? Romans 1.16-17

A special interview with Paul of Tarsus, conducted by Antony Pucci of the Times. Dateline: Florence, Italy

Antony: Paul, I read a quote of yours the other day, in which you said, and I

quote: ‘I am not ashamed of the gospel.’ Were those your words?

Paul: Yes, that is precisely what I said.

Antony: Isn’t that an unusual remark to make?

Paul: No, not at all…most of the popular Roman and greater Italian culture

scoff at the gospel of Jesus Christ, at… Continue

What intimidates you?

Honestly, not too much intimidates me. I am not scared to go into

sketchy situations. I am not nervous about meeting new people;

actually, I rather like it. I do not mind walking into a roomful of

strangers. I am not intimidated by meeting dignitaries, movie stars, or

officials. (Hmmm… I think the person I have most enjoyed meeting was

Lee Strobel. He is a hero of mine, and the only autograph I own and

truly value. It is in the back of my little Bible.) That said,… Continue

One bite at a time.

One bite at a time.

The Word of God is invaluable for us

to understand God, the world, and our place in it.

Why? Because

All Scripture is inspired by God and is

useful to teach us what is true and

to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.

It corrects us when we are wrong and

teaches us to do what is right.

God uses it to prepare and

equip his people to do every good work.*

I LOVE THEE.

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight

For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of everyday's

Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.

I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;

I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with a passion put to use

In my old griefs, and with my… Continue

It didn’t matter if it was in a Southern California city in broad daylight… It didn’t matter if she was a small, normal looking, white woman…the fact is, she had aligned herself with devilry. As such, she was an open vessel for demonic activity. (If you don’t…

No RETREAT, no SURRENDER.

Tall, very dark, guarded, angry . . . that is how I came to know him. Of all the street people I encountered in Long Beach, he is the one I thought, ‘dang, I wouldn’t want to meet him alone—especially at night!’ First, he tried to discredit me as a minister, my being a woman and all, but somehow I passed the test, and he came back to the…

Name it, claim it? Really!

Electrically-charged, controversial to some . . . the issue of answered prayer. What is our role? What is God’s role? Where does our faith come into play? Oh, and how much faith is required to experience positive answers to our prayers?

Aggravated, frustrated, and desperate for relief, Paul asked God to remove his…

Sometimes the answer is NO. 2 Corinthians 12.7-10

God always answers our prayers, but like it or not, sometimes he says “no”. Usually, of course, we do not like “no”, but it is there just the same. Paul asked God to heal him of some weakness or constant source of pain in his body, (though Scripture doesn’t exactly say what). Some have speculated it was poor eyesight, while others have said he had a

chronic stomach problem; either…
