In my research of "self" & the studying of the destruction of depending on self instead of God, one of the most interesting words I have come across is self-abasement. The definition is a degradation or humiliation of oneself, especially because of feelings of guilt or inferiority. Voluntary self-punishment or humiliation in order to atone for some real or imagined wrongdoing. Self-abasement might have a religious aspect for those seeking humility before God.

I love that word.
I’m going to start using it more often.
I feel sluggish today.
Nevertheless, I’m going to get up and get going. Even if my progress is slow, I’m going to move forward.
I’m offended by what they said to me.
Nevertheless, I will choose to forgive, and refuse to become bitter. God’s done too much for me to stay stuck in this.

There was this young boy sitting on a parked bench. He was reading the Bible when he shouted, "Wow!!! Praise God. He is so good." A passerby asked him what he was so excited about.
