In the times of our Lord CHRIST the lawyers were the Pharisees and Sadducees (the Law is Torah). The Pharisees (Democrats) enjoyed the support of the majority of the people, while the Sadducees (Republicans) catered to the wealthy. The Pharisees and Sadducees made up the Sanhedrin, which was the ruling body of the Jewish people.
