Are we born evil?

Recently, I went onto a chat site about God and Jesus that connected me with people around the world. They were there to help and answer questions, which they did with understanding towards my personal beliefs, which I thank them for. I am not a Christian. I do not believe in God. However, I do not think that because I don't believe in Him now, that I can't gain an understanding about God and Christ and the Bible.
