Nagaon Baptist Church

Our Story:
Miles Bronson and Jacob Thomas are appointed by the American Baptist Mission to join the Assam mission, arriving in Calcutta April 11, 1837. While traveling onward to Assam and up the Brahmaputra river, Thomas is killed suddenly by a falling tree from the river bank. After the tragic incident Dr. Miles Bronson begins working among the Nagas in Jaipur. Because of his ill health Dr. Miles Bronson left his work among the Nagas and settled in Nagaon. Then their mission was focus on the Assamies and their mission center were Nagaon, Sivsagar and Guwahati.Then Bronsons, having shifted to Nagaon, and in the year 1846 on Jan25th. Dr. Miles Bronson established Nagaon Baptist Church.
Purpose:
Our purpose is to glory God by conducting a Baptist Church in accordance with the Word of God, the articles of faith, the covenant, and the constitution of this local church, promoting the worship of our God, edifying believers, teaching the whole counsel of God, administering the ordinances and Biblical discipline, seeking to win the lost to Christ through personal witnessing and the preaching of the gospel, carrying on a vigorous missionary program around the world, establishing other Baptist Churches, defending the faith, and maintaining a good testimony for Christ in our community by godliness and good works.
Mission:
Nagaon Baptist Church is called to proclaim the Gospel of Christ and the beliefs of the evangelical Christian faith, to maintain the worship of God, and to inspire in all persons a love for Christ, a passion for righteousness, and a consciousness of their duties to God and their fellow human beings. We pledge our lives to Christ and covenant with each other to demonstrate His Spirit through worship, witnessing, and ministry to the needs of the people of this church and the community.
