My story with God
I grew up in a home where church was unimportant, we never went as a family and we weren't encouraged to do so for ourselves. I remember for a time as a young girl (about 10) having the church bus pick me up and going to Sunday school but can't recall how that began or ended? As a young adult, I started attending the First Presbyterian Church of Independence (MO) and found a home amongst the congregation and truly enjoyed the experience. It was at that time, age 19, that I chose to be baptized. It was a big deal for me and I remember it fondly. Unfortunately my circumstances moved me away from that area and through that move I lost the connection to church and the Lord. I want to say that I have always believed and have spoken with Him many times, but it was mostly during my times of greatest need. Fast forward to the present, in January 2010 a relationship that had been lost to me since childhood was found again. My cousin! I cried the day she found me on Facebook and we have begun to bridge the 30 or so years that we lost. It is in this friendship with family that I have begun to feel the hand of the Lord reach out to me again and pull me back into the path I strayed from. My cousin is a woman of grace and mercy and a believer in Him, unlike many others I have met in my lifetime. Reading her words and the glory she brings to Him even in her times of struggle has touched such a deep need in my own being that a door has opened and I am rushing through it with open arms embracing Jesus Christ with a renewed hope and enthusiasm that I have never had before. So my story is this....I have been on this walk through life thinking I was in it alone most of the time. I have come to realize He has been with me all along. Patiently waiting and gently guiding me the whole way. What an awesome God!
