My story with God
I grew up with great parents in Idaho. Only my Mom was a believer.
In college at Boise State, I usually went with the crowd, but, as I like to say, was 'tricked' into taking a group of other students down to a week-long Campus Crusade event at Arrowhead Springs, CA by a Christian Chevrolet dealer.

I accepted Christ as my Savior on Jan 1, 1970 after a week of somehow having breakfast, lunch and/or dinner with the likes of heretofore unknown to me individuals such as Bill Bright, Josh McDowell, Howard Hendricks and others who just 'happened' to occupy the empty seat across from me.

I came to the east coast in 1973 to work for a group of venture capitalists where I flew around the country interviewing inventors and their inventions. The Lord allowed me to be used of Him to lead the vice president of the firm to faith.

In 1974 I was interviewing for an executive secretary and found my wife (as Proverbs says, "He who finds a wife, finds a good thing.").

We were married (at 30 and 28) in 1975 and have three wonderful grown children (no grandchildren--yet). In that same year I started my business and acquired a wonderful accountant and brother in the Lord who worked with me for over 26 years until his death from cancer in 2002.

In 1980 I launched the Consultants National Resource Center at 1629 "K" St. NW in Washington, DC working with marketers of professional services including accountants, consultants of all stripes, engineers, attorneys and others.

I 1997 I created and co-founded the National Association of Business Coaches (NABC is still on my car's plates) with Hal Wright a brother in the Lord who told everyone he was a "recovering attorney" when asked of his occupation. We were the USA's (possibly the world's) first organization dedicated completely to business coaches and had great opposition from another group who was about a year older who claimed that "there is no such thing as a 'business' coach".

The Lord allowed me to come in contact with some very competent believers and we made an impact on thousans of businesses.

I sold the NABC in 2002 to a Canadian group (and thereby learned yet another painful lesson) and have kept in contact with only a few of our past members.

The Lord has really been faithful to my wife and me in the low times of our business. That is why I am starting an organization to lift locally Christian-owned businesses up before the Lord.

Depending upon whom you speak with, Christian-owned businesses account for 40% to 70% of the total giving to local churches and projects as well as worldwide missions.
Other stuff about me:
As a result of the above, to pray for and help Christian-owned businessess--no matter how small--I am being led to start one last organization before the Lord returns, Tentmakers Suppot, International.

We seek to gather thousands of believers--both locally and worldwide--to pray for and support--both through free and low-cost resources and business coaching--local businesses owned by believers so that they can increase their revenue streams, increase their profitability and therefore hae more to give to their local churches, other ministries and missions.

Instead of doing it all myself as I have done many times in the past, I am looking to our Lord to raise up individuals who also catch the vision of the vital necessity of supporting Christian-owned enterprises--both in their own commuity and around the globe.

If you would like to join with us, please contact me through this forum.

If you have a business where we could pray for you--either generally or specifically--with our growing band of prayer warriors, please contact me in the same way.

Because of His grace,
Steve

Steve, I completely agree with you that Christian businessmen and women are the engine for church planting and missions. Thanks for all you are doing to get them fired up and to hold out that vision before them.

Hi Steve. I am new to this site and found your posts. I use to have a few retail stores (closed them down due to husband's battle with cancer.) I haven't had time to read all of your posts, but they sound interesting. God Bless.

Steve, may God richly bless this vision and all your work as you move forward with the Tentmakers Network, an idea whose time has come! Grace be with you!

    One Step At A Time

One step at a time is the best way to go
When going through life and traveling in the direction of your dreams
The best way to get ahead is the simpliest way:
Take one step at a time
    Don’t look over your shoulder
If you do, you’ll feel the weight of all your yesterdays upon you
And don’t worry about what lies ahead
By the time you get to the bend in the road or the crest of the hill
You’re going to be better and stronger than you ever were before
Just go one step at a time
    One day at a time
And you’ll find a rich, thankful life you never thought you could afford….
