Re: He is a School Teacher Fighting for God and Country

Dear American Patriot,

Brad Johnson is a highly respected math teacher for the Poway Unified School District in San Diego, California. He has been in a lengthy legal battle with his school board in order to keep displayed the patriotic banners that have been hanging on his classroom walls for over 20 years.

Brad’s offending banners include the phrases, “In God We Trust,” “One Nation Under God,” “God Bless America,” and “God Shed His Grace On Thee.”

School officials ordered him to remove these banners from his classroom. They said his banners impermissibly promote a Judeo-Christian viewpoint by referring to “God,” and might offend a Muslim student.

At a time when public schools across the country are denying America’s Christian heritage and subverting their students’ sense of patriotism, this courageous high school teacher dared to say “No!” Will you stand with him?

THE REST OF THE STORY

In a clear case of discrimination against Christians, school officials left untouched religious classroom displays by other teachers that included a 40 foot string of Tibetan prayer flags with images of Buddha; a poster with the lyrics from John Lennon’s anti-religion song “Imagine,” which begins: Imagine there’s no Heaven; a poster with Hindu leader Mahatma Gandhi’s “7 Social Sins”; a poster of Muslim leader Malcolm X; and, a poster of Buddhist leader Dalai Lama.

The Thomas More Law Center agreed to represent Brad at no charge. After 3 years of litigation, which started in 2007, Federal District Judge Roger T. Benitez ruled on February 26, 2010, the school district violated Brad Johnson’s constitutional rights when it ordered him to take down his classroom banners.
In a strongly worded decision, Judge Benitez stated:

“[The school district officials] apparently fear their students are incapable of dealing with diverse viewpoints that include God’s place in American history and culture. . . . That God places prominently in our Nation’s history does not create an Establishment Clause violation requiring curettage and disinfectant for Johnson’s public high school classroom walls. It is a matter of historical fact that our institutions and government actors have in past and present times given place to a supreme God.”

BUT THAT'S NOT THE END OF THE STORY. . .

This past week the Poway School District filed an appeal of Judge Benitez’s ruling to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. As you may know, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is considered the most liberal court in the land.

The appeal could take years and cost thousands of dollars. The school district doesn’t care, and it is not worried about the costs. Their appeal will be funded by the district's insurance company.

So why are school officials so intent on eliminating God from Brad’s classroom? As you know, school districts across our nation are engaged in a mission to destroy the Christian foundation of our Nation. Brad’s banners sabotage that indoctrination effort. And if his banners are allowed to remain, it will be a precedent for Christian teachers across our nation to put up similar banners.

Brad Johnson’s battle to keep God in his classroom is important to all Americans. Thomas Jefferson, the principal author of our Declaration of Independence, recognized the importance of God to Americans. He proclaimed:
“God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever.”
