    I often feel like I am on the outside looking in.  Many times things are said and misunderstood.  Once that happens it is very difficult to undo the misunderstanding.  Discouragement will knock on the door and if you answer the door discouragement will come on in.  If  however you chose not to answer, then it will look for any cracks and attempt to get inside that way.  So we will do our best to caulk any and all cracks.  Still, we cannot protect ourselves on our own.  We have Our Lord!  When discouragement knocks on the door, Our Lord will answer the door if we but ask.  Instead of it just walking in, discouragement will stutter and walk back a bit, then it will tell Jesus it must have the wrong house.  So let it be the next time we begin to feel discouragement.  Introduce it to Jesus and Holy Spirit who live inside us.  It will be a short visit, they have little in common

    JOHN 6:26-40

    Words to the People

          26Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27“Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.” 28Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” 29Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” 30So they said to Him, “What then do You do for a sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform? 31“Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘HE GAVE THEM BREAD OUT OF HEAVEN TO EAT.’” 32Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. 33“For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” 34Then they said to Him, “Lord, always give us this bread.”

          35Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. 36“But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe. 37“All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. 38“For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39“This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. 40“For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”

    Chris your comments "that we cannot protect our selves on our own." Seems quite relevant to me at the moment.

    I have been thinking alot (especially since coming on AAG last November) Why is it that np matter what I do in my life its is always one step forward five back. One good thing happens and I give thanks, then its quite quickly followed by loads and loads of things to go wrong, some quite rough things, which usually means me losing out, well always means me losing out. (I know some people will say you need to be more positive (I am normally)) I have honestly asked my self "am I cursed?" "is there Karma to pay?" etc, etc.

    I have read most of the comments here on this group and seen comments such as "under attack". To be honest this is how I feel my life has been, especially over the last 10 years.

    I have asked God and Jesus many many times over these years to forgive any sins I have done past and present. I have asked many many times to lift away my troubles or at least give me the understanding and learning from them. Though I think both Jesus and the Lord a playing observors or if there are lessons its beyond my intelligence.

    The contradiction that seems to come. Is the more, or should I say the less I try to to leave it, and give it all to Jesus and God and ask for their help the worse my situations get, and then the more I try to makes things better the harder things become and more and more problems arise and feels as though I shouldn't be pursuing them.

    How do I know if this is being attacked or this is Gods work? Because if its attack then I need the Lords protection. If its Gods work then why does it hurt and is so hard and I am getting no learning or understanding from it other than its possibly neither is right or exist and I should start changing my beliefs.

    I am struggling so verymuch at the moment to get any kind of understanding of what it is or why I am being so spiritual. I am 47 years old and I still feel like I don't know what I am supposed to be doing here on earth.

    This time last year I was taking my younger brother to hospital who was dying from cancer, which he died from at the end of April last year a week after his 40th. I remember thinking at the time that his life here on earth has ended and he will soon be in heaven and that I kind of envied the fact that his sufferring had ended and also sad that he could have had a much better life if he had made different choices, taken different advice or took the right advice. But then I also asked was this the way God meant it be for him, for us. No matter what you do Gods will will be done, you really we really don't have a choice, so no matter the person, who they are or what they are doing, it doesn't matter its all Gods will. So then what is the point, why ask for protection or help, its already done in God s will? He protects or not, he helps or not or its beyond or intelligence so beyond learning???

    Hamm

    I was away yesterday.  Arnette and I celebrated 15 yrs married.  I was struck by a few things in your comments.  The first of course is we all know that dance one step forward 5 back.  What we learn in the end however is that.  That one step forward forward has more power then the 5 back do.  Especially when we make that one step after we have the 5 back.  For us to continue after being pushed back, is and takes strong Faith.  Takes more to go forward then it takes to get pushed back.  We can only do this in His Grace and from His Power.

    Hamm after you have asked to be forgiven, and you have received that forgiveness then that is done.  You have been forgiven Brother, as we all have.  I do understand the feeling behind the thinking.  And, if I do then even more so the Father does.  So it is OK, just know that after you have asked, then receive and it's done.

    "How do I know if this is being attacked or this is Gods work?" As long as we continue to Trust and obey the Lord.  The result will be the same.  We know God does not attack us, that is the enemy.  Yet, the lesson we learn in trusting God is what counts.

    I have yet to lose a family member yet.  So I do not know that pain.  I will continue to Pray for you in that area.

    When times are hard, Believe and know your Heavenly Father Loves you.  When times are not so bad know that your Heavenly Father Loves you.  As we look at these back to back what do we see.  As we learn to Trust God and Believe we are Loved, it is the hard times that help us more then the easier times do.

    As Alcedes can tell us about concrete work.  Each job is different, the conditions of the area, time of the year, on and on.  We want the best results, but that can be difficult when the ground is dry or wet, the wind, the temp., it all has to be considered.  To the inexperienced these conditions can and do work against the person.  To the experienced they know to add more or less water, or any number of things in different conditions.  All of this will be the difference between how long things will last and or look.   As with all things we gain it all be going through them whatever they are.

     We just have to keep going, like you are Hamm.   And Trust in the Love of the Lord to show and see us through.

  • a servant (Chris)

    Something we must always know.  We are Loved!!!  We might think we are stepping back, and we do if that is all there are.  As we keep in mind we are Loved, then we learn from those steps back.  Yes, maybe 4 but next 3 then only 2 steps back, until we find ourselves moving forward in His Love, to His Glory.

  • ALCEDES JONES

    Amen my brother Chris those backward make us stronger for the next ones because as long as long as we in this body and serving our Heavenly Father we are going to have trouble or  backward steps ,our big brother JESUS told us that ,and that is why  I LOVE the words and keep them close to my heart so when I do get push backward I use  them to pull me forward and make me stronger stronger,now I understand why my grandmother kept her radio on spiritual station when I was little and now I keep mine's on one 24/7 and my play list on my laptop is all songs that give strength to fight this war ,love you both,through the love of Jesus our big brother

    PSALMS 73:20-28

    20
    Like a dream when one awakes,
             O Lord, when aroused, You will despise their form.

    21When my heart was embittered
             And I was pierced within,

    22Then I was senseless and ignorant;
             I was like a beast before You.

    23Nevertheless I am continually with You;
             You have taken hold of my right hand.

    24With Your counsel You will guide me,
             And afterward receive me to glory.

    25Whom have I in heaven but You?
             And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.

    26My flesh and my heart may fail,
             But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

    27For, behold, those who are far from You will perish;
             You have destroyed all those who are unfaithful to You.

    28But as for me, the nearness of God is my good;
             I have made the Lord GOD my refuge,
             That I may tell of all Your works.

     Psalm 73 :10-19
    New American Standard Bible

    10Therefore his people return to this place,
             And waters of abundance are drunk by them.

    11They say, “How does God know?
             And is there knowledge with the Most High?”

    12Behold, these are the wicked;
             And always at ease, they have increased in wealth.

    13Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure
             And washed my hands in innocence;

    14For I have been stricken all day long
             And chastened every morning.

    15If I had said, “I will speak thus,”
             Behold, I would have betrayed the generation of Your children.

    16When I pondered to understand this,
             It was troublesome in my sight

    17Until I came into the sanctuary of God;
             Then I perceived their end.

    18Surely You set them in slippery places;
             You cast them down to destruction.

    19How they are destroyed in a moment!
             They are utterly swept away by sudden terrors!

     Psalm 73 :1-9
    New American Standard Bible

    BOOK 3

    The End of the Wicked Contrasted with That of the Righteous.

    A Psalm of Asaph.

    1Surely God is good to Israel,
             To those who are pure in heart!

    2But as for me, my feet came close to stumbling,
             My steps had almost slipped.

    3For I was envious of the arrogant
             As I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

    4For there are no pains in their death,
             And their body is fat.

    5They are not in trouble as other men,
             Nor are they plagued like mankind.

    6Therefore pride is their necklace;
             The garment of violence covers them.

    7Their eye bulges from fatness;
             The imaginations of their heart run riot.

    8They mock and wickedly speak of oppression;
             They speak from on high.

    9They have set their mouth against the heavens,
             And their tongue parades through the earth.

    Alcedes and Chris thank you so very much for your comments, I love you my dear brothers. Your faith is so strong, I admire you both.

    The struggle I have at the moment I know I can overcome and when the darkness lifts I do so much enjoy the light.

    I was walking home tonight just in time to see one of those beautiful sunsets cutting through the rain clouds and for the few moments it lasted I gave thanks and praise for it glory and the gift from the Lord God.

    When I settled down and read the comments from you both, I was humbled again, and I realise how much or how little thingsd like a sunset and caring words and words of faith from two people I hardly know and on the other side of the world can lift my heart. I have just took two steps over those 5 backwards, so 7 forward. Thanks again and may you both of you shine, shine and shine for all eternity. God bless.

     2 Corinthians 4 :16-18
    New American Standard Bible

          16Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. 17For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

    /a> 2 Corinthians 5 :1-10
    New American Standard Bible

    The Temporal and Eternal

          1For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven, 3inasmuch as we, having put it on, will not be found naked. 4For indeed while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened, because we do not want to be unclothed but to be clothed, so that what is mortal will be swallowed up by life. 5Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge.

          6Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord— 7for we walk by faith, not by sight— 8we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. 9Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him. 10For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

    FOOD FOR THOUGHTS

     "I will be with Him in trouble" (Ps. xci. 15).

    "I will be with Him in trouble" (Psalm 91:15).

    The question often comes, "Why didn't He help me sooner!" It is not His order. He must first adjust you to the situation and cause you to learn your lesson from it. His promise is, "I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him." He must be with you in the trouble first until you grow quiet. Then He will take you out of it. This will not come till you have stopped being restless and fretful about it and become calm and trustful. Then He will say, "It is enough."

    God uses trouble to teach His children precious lessons. They are intended to educate us. When their good work is done a glorious recompense will come to us through them. There is a sweet joy and opportunity in them. He does not regard them as difficulties but as opportunities. They have come to give God a greater interest in you, and to show how He can deliver you from them. We cannot have a mercy worth praising God for without difficulty. God is as deep, and long, and high, as our little world of circumstances.

  • a servant (Chris)

    What a Blessing it is to know what no matter our difficulty, " God is as deep, and long, and high, as our little world of circumstances."  He is Big Enough to handle  no matter the situations we find ourselves in.  Life can be made up of all kinds of  things.  Many times we see them as difficulties, as was said He sees them as opportunities.  This can be determined  by our heart, by our Trust in the Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit.  As we put forth our Faith, into these trials or difficulties we can understand why they are seen as opportunities.  For when we put forth our Faith, with the mindset; the desire to bring Glory to Our Lord, then the possibilities far outweigh the negative outcomes against what difficulties can give birth to.  As we strive to bring Glory to Jesus, the Victories are ours to cherish.  Lord Bless

    Today's Bible Verse:

    1 Peter 1:6-7
    In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (ESV)

  • William Adams (rockabillie)

    Hi guys, This was passed on to me the other week and I thought how meaningful it was.

    There once was a farmer who grew award-winning corn. Each year he entered his corn in the state fair where it won a blue ribbon.

    One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about how he grew it. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbours.

    "How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbours when they are entering corn in competition with yours each year?" the reporter asked.

    "Why sir," said the farmer, "didn't you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbours grow inferior corn, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I must help my neighbours grow good corn."

    He is very much aware of the connectedness of life. His corn cannot improve unless his neighbour’s corn also improves.

    So it is with our lives. Those who choose to live in peace must help their neighbours to live in peace. Those who choose to live well must help others to live well, for the value of a life is measured by the lives it touches. And those who choose to be happy must help others to find happiness, for the welfare of each is bound up with the welfare of all.

    The lesson for each of us is this: if we are to grow good corn, we must help our neighbours grow good corn.

  • Hamm

    Amen William, I am in total agreement. God bless.

    We all have read Psalm 23.  This Psalm holds the instructions we all Need as Children of the Most High God.  These words are not hard, but gentle in their description of how we Must see Our Lord.  Gentle yet, Powerful as we Trust and Believe in what is being said.  These words cover our entire life.  We see we are Protected, we are shown Peace.  We are given direction.  However, one thing that Must be Understood, we need only Believe these words.  No matter how complicated we think our life is, the answers we seek are in these words!  When we add our Faith to these words, things change!  We need to remember to have a humble heart, that we are His Children; His sheep.  For He is our Shepherd.  And, because of that fact we have all that we need!  Lord Bless you all.

    The LORD is my Shepherd;

    I have all that I need.

    He lets me rest in green meadows;

    He leads me beside peaceful streams.

    He renews my strength.

    He guides me along right paths,

    bringing honor to His Name.

    Even when I walk

    through the darkest valley,

    I will not be afraid,

    for You are close beside me.

    Your rod and Your staff

    protect and comfort me.

    You prepare a feast for me

    in the presence of my enemies.

    You honor me by anointing my head with oil.

    My cup overflows with blessings.

    Surely Your Goodness and unfailing Love will pursue me

    all the days of my life,

    and I will live in the House of the LORD

    forever.

    One of the most important things to remember is, we are Loved.  It is a Love however that does not conform to human emotions.  It is a constant Love that cannot be changed by moods and feelings.  It is a Love that can be counted on no matter what.  We have not earned this Love, it has been given to us.  It is a Love that has been based on a decision before time began.  How we treat this gift, is of the utmost importance.  The things we do we be weighed.  We must know that in the definition of Grace:a} the free and unmerited favour  of God shown to man. b} the divine assistance and power given to man in spiritual rebirth and sanctification. c} an unmerited gift, favour, etc, granted by God.  As we hold on to these Truths and accept them as Gifts from God, we find they are as nothing else we have ever known.  Man puts conditions, some put price tags, others have seen them as a result of labor we have preformed.  Some will point to how we behave after we are born again.  Our actions after accepting Jesus as the Christ, simply show the influence of Holy Spirit on our hearts.  We will never be able to repay what has been given to us.  We can only do our best to live our lives, as ones who have been influenced by Pure Love, as a way of Thanking Him for all He has done for us.

    Glory to His Name my Brother.  Like you I believe we both already do these things.  Yet, I trust you know, I will gladly with confidence and humility stand with you Alcedes.  I will be one of the ten, and Lord willing do my best to remember these verses as I encounter others in my day.  And, Brother I will keep you in the loop, by sharing the results of Living with the mindset of 1Cor 13:4-7.  I believe this is a wonderful Spirit lead idea.  As we humble ourselves, wanting and working so that All the Glory goes to Our Lord of Lords.

    Wow the last few blogs have been great.

    Alcedes I would like to be counted in as one the 10, though in all honesty "taking into acount a wrong suffered" is big learning for me. Especially at the moment.

    Chris I have just finished reading a book "What so amazing about grace" by Philip Yancey. I enjoyed it. Good learning.

    God bless you brothers.

    You will see this in many places on this site.  WE MUST PRAY AND LIFT UP PART OF OUR FAMILY IN NIGERIA.  AND, ANY OTHER PLACE THEY ARE KILLING OUR FAMILY BECAUSE THEY LOVE JESUS!!! WE MUST PRAY, PRAY, PRAY.  LET US JOIN THEM AND STAND IN AGREEMENT WITH THEIR PRAYERS OF FAITH.  THEY ARE KILLING OUR FAMILY!!

  • ALCEDES JONES

    I STAND IN AGREEMENT AND WILL BE PRAYING FOR THEM

    As I think about  1 Corinthians 13 :4-7  in the light of what is going on, we must stand for Love and show Love to others.  As they murder parts of our Family  and as we Pray for all involved.  Love is tested.  Yet, all of this shows that Prayer is the Only Way to represent Jesus.

    Today's Bible Verse:

    Lamentations 3:22–24
    The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. "The LORD is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him." (ESV)

    Today's Inspiring Thought: Enough for Today

    There's one thing we can count on: the steadfastlove of the Lord. Just as certain as the sun will rise in the morning, we can trust and know that his strong love and tender mercies will greet us anew each day.

    So great is the Lord's faithfulness, so personal and sure, that he holds out just the right portion for our souls to drink in today, tomorrow, and the next day. When we wake up to discover his steady, daily, restorative care, our hope is renewed and our faith is reborn.

    If you want to see change, if you want to see God open up new doors, the key is to bloom right where you’re planted. You can’t wait until everything gets better before you decide to have a good attitude. You have to be the best that you can be right where you are. When you bloom where you’re planted, you’re allowing God to work in you, and He will be faithful to complete what He’s started in you!

    A PRAYER FOR TODAY
    Father God, thank You for doing a work in me. I choose to align myself with Your plan by blooming where I’m planted. Help me, by Your Spirit, to be an example of Your love and life everywhere I go in Jesus’ name. Amen.

    He’s Working In You
    TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
    “...he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”
    (Philippians 1:6, NIV)
    TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

    Sometimes when God is doing a work in our lives, it can begin to feel a little uncomfortable. We may encounter people who are hard to get along with or have circumstances that seem beyond our control. When this happens, instead of complaining, getting sour or trying to change everything around you, why don’t you look deep inside and say, “Lord, thank You for doing a work in me.” See, I’ve learned that God is more interested in changing me than He is in changing my circumstances. If I choose to stay sour because I’m not getting my way or discouraged because things aren't happening on my time table, that's going to keep me right where I am.

    I learned long ago that with God on our side,even though we will experience disappointments in life, we can always get "reappointed" if you or I have a doctor's appointment and he has an emergency and he has to cancel , we simply make another appointment.Life can be that way too. Trusting that God has a good plan for us, and that our steps are ordered by Him, is the key to preventing disappointment from turning into despair. THIS WAS TAKING FROM JOYCE MEYER "LIVING BEYOND YOUR FEELING" pg 78. PROVERBS 20:24 Man’s steps are ordained by the LORD,
    How then can man understand his way?
    PROVERBS 16:9
    The mind of man plans his way,
    But the LORD directs his steps.

    As we learn to humble ourselves.  As we yield our plans to His directions.  We will see just how He can use us to His Glory.  How He can use us to help others, for when our wills are able to be bent to His direction.  His Power and Grace is beautifully displayed from a humble and willing heart.
