The Will of God

After a person is saved there is nothing more important in their life than knowing and doing the will of God. If you miss the will of God, you can’t truly be called successful for you have wasted the life that God has given you.

NASA AND THE BIBLE

Mr. Harold Hill, President of the Curtis Engine Company in Baltimore, Maryland and a consultant in the Space Program relates the following development.

"I think one of the most amazing things that God has for us today happened recently to our astronauts and space scientists at Greenbelt, Maryland.

They were checking the position of the sun, moon, and planets out in space where they would be 100 years and 1000 years from now.

We have to know this so we won't send a satellite up and have it bump into something later on in its orbits.

We have to lay out the orbits in terms of the life of the satellite, and where the planets will be so the whole thing will not bog down.

They ran the computer measurement back and forth over the centuries and it came to a halt.

The computer stopped and put up a red signal, which meant that there was something wrong either with the information fed into it or with the results as compared to the standards.

They called in the service department to check it out and they asked, "What's wrong?"

Well, they found there is a day missing in space in elapsed time. They scratched their heads and tore their hair. There was no answer.

Finally, a Christian man on the team said, "You know, one time I was in Sunday school and they talked about the sun standing still." While they didn't believe him, they didn't have an answer either, so they said, "Show us."

He got a Bible and went back to the book of Joshua where they found a pretty ridiculous statement for anyone with common sense.

There they found the Lord saying to Joshua, "Fear them not, I have delivered them into thy hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee." Joshua was concerned because he was surrounded by the enemy and if darkness fell they would overpower them. So, Joshua asked the Lord to make the sun stand still!

That's right, "The sun stood still and the moon stayed – and hasted not to go down about a whole day!" (Joshua 10:12-13)

The astronauts and scientists said, "There is the missing day!"

They checked the computers going back into the time it was written and found it was close but not close enough.

The elapsed time that was missing back in Joshua's day was 23 hours and 20 minutes – not a whole day.

They read the Bible and there it was "about (approximately) a day.

These little words in the Bible are important, but they were still in trouble because, if you cannot account for 40 minutes, you'll still be in trouble 1,000 years from now.

Forty minutes had to be found because it can be multiplied many times over in orbits.

As the Christian employee thought about it, he remembered somewhere in the Bible where it said the sun went BACKWARDS.

The scientists told him he was out of his mind, but they got out the Book and read these words in 2 Kings that told of the following story:

Hezekiah, on his deathbed, was visited by the prophet Isaiah who told him that he was not going to die.

Hezekiah asked for a sign as proof. Isaiah said, "Do you want the sun to go ahead ten degrees?

Hezekiah said "It is nothing for the sun to go ahead ten degrees, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.

Isaiah spoke to the Lord and the Lord brought the shadow ten degrees BACKWARD!

Ten degrees is exactly 40 minutes!

Twenty-three hours and 20 minutes in Joshua, plus 40 minutes in Second Kings make the missing day in the universe!

Inspiration from the Majestic Eagle!!!

bald_eagle (best)

For many years, man has singled out the Eagle as a symbol of vision, leadership, bravery, courage, honor, pride, determination and grace. What makes this bird stand out so much above the rest? The eagle has long enjoyed the reputation as (King of Birds) … (Lord of the Air), though my personal preferred name for her is “The Majestic Eagle” simply because she is regal, stately, and truly impressive.  As you will see, the eagle possesses positive qualities and traits that are simply breathtaking! Should you and I pattern our lives around some of her traits, we will no doubt soar above the heights! I hope you will be inspired as you read.

Eagles fly alone at high altitude and not with sparrows or other small birds

Eagles fly alone at high altitude and not with sparrows or other small birds

1. LIVING IN THE HEIGHTS: I like the eagle because she lives and operates in the heights. Unlike most birds, the eagle builds her nests in the highest cliffs/trees she can find, and spends her time soaring in the heights. This means that the eagle naturally possesses greater perspective than almost any other bird out there. For though they are all flying, the eagle enjoys the peace and quiet of the heights as she is far removed from the noise and clutter that happens at the lower levels of life. For the higher one goes, the easier it is to have a bigger/clearer picture and perspective of what’s going on below. People who live at higher levels of life are people who separate themselves from the clutter, the confusion and the commotion that happens at the lower levels of living. People who live in the heights set goals, discuss ideas, prefer peace, inspire others and press on toward greatness! People who live on the lower levels of life complain, criticize, tear down others, and generally rob others and themselves of their peace. The eagle flies at high altitudes of 10,000 feet and beyond. As the eagle will tell you–”soar in the heights, for in the heights you will find fewer predators, less noise, more peace and a truly more beautiful view”. So soar!!

Eagles have extremely keen vision

Eagles have extremely keen vision

2. PERFECT VISION: The Eagle also has extremely keen vision. Their eyes are specially designed for long distance focus and clarity. The eagle’s eye is almost as large as a human eye, but with a sharpness at least 4x greater than that of a person with perfect vision. They can see another eagle soaring nearly 50 miles away. It is nearly impossible for any of us to excel and be successful without good vision. Good vision helps the eagle see all the possibilities within its reach and beyond. It can also see a predator from miles away–helping him both avert the problem as well as protect his family and young ones. When we lack foresight, we cannot see the challenges or the possibilities that lie around us. A person who lacks vision is a person who wastes all his opportunities. This person cannot see “what’s coming” — so everything catches them off-guard. The person who has foresight will avoid many pitfalls and cease the most opportunities, while the person who lacks it falls into every trap imaginable. Notice that the eagle can see another eagle soaring nearly 50miles away. A visionary with insight is well prepared and alert, but they are also able to spot and identify another visionary when they see one. It takes one to know one. Only iron can sharpen iron. Without vision, the Bible says–the people perish (Proverbs 29:18).

Eagles are a member of the Accipitridae family. The bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), our national bird, is the only eagle unique to North America. The bald eagle's scientific name signifies a sea (halo) eagle (aeetos) with a white (leukos) head. At one time, the word "bald" meant "white," not hairless

3. SOLITUDE: Did you know that Eagles never fly in flocks? They always fly alone. Not surprising! Right? The eagle is a born leader! She charts her own course. She is not a follower. She is the living symbol of independence! Group mentality can sometimes get us nowhere. While we all should celebrate the healthy balance found in (inter-dependence), we cannot deny the great necessity of being independent. People who accomplish great things do so by flying solo from time to time. Solitude is necessary for personal growth. You cannot grow if you are always around people 24/7. The eagle knows this. Writers, painters, musicians, creative thinkers all know the value of time spent alone. It is when we take time to break out of (the pack, the groups, the crowds) that we will meet the great potential that lies within us, simply waiting to be discovered and birthed.

4. COMMITMENT:  Get this… Once paired in “marriage“, bald eagles remain together for life. Only if one dies does the survivor accept a new mate. How cool is that? Eagles have something humanity has long been fighting to understand and sustain–it’s called commitment. It’s called fidelity. It’s called faithfulness. When you have made a vow, you should live to keep it. The majestic eagle is faithful to ONE spouse for life. A person who is looking for long-term joy, satisfaction and peace will be wise enough to keep his/her vows and to stay committed to their spouse or to any other commitments he/she has made. People who have engaged in infidelity will tell you that once they have done it and the “excitement” has fizzled and died, they are usually filled with incredible regret. A wise person can see the heartbreak and turmoil that comes from broken vows/covenants and avoid that trap at all cost. An eagle enjoys the benefit of having a lifelong friend and companion. A wise person keeps his/her commitments. An unwise person breaks promises, is not loyal in relationships and is not in it for the long-haul. If a BIRD with no formal education can do it, you and I can too(with God’s help and grace) of course!

5. WISDOM: Another great quality of the eagle is this: Eagles live close to open water where food is plentiful, and where undisturbed habitats abound. A wise person will make their habitation (close to their source of life). You are wise if you know that you cannot live far from God, OR without God. The Eagle understands that she needs to make her habitation close to the open waters–this is how she is sustained. An unwise person is living farther and farther away from the true source of life, not realizing that they are wasting away without “living water” / “bread of life”. A wise person has centered their lives on God. They know to stay close, for it is God who sustains them!

6. VITALITY: When storms come, all other birds hide in the leaves and branches of trees for safety, while the eagle uses the storm’s wind to lift itself higher. Once the eagle finds the wind of the storm, he will use it to lift himself above the clouds, then he glides and simply rests his wings. In other words, it is impossible to “rain on an eagle’s parade“. He escapes the storms by rising above the clouds, while all the other birds scatter. Now you see why I call him “majestic”!! This bird is amazing. A person with vitality will use his/her problems to get stronger and stronger instead of succumbing to them. Don’t let your problems define you. And don’t let your challenges be your benediction. Use the power of the storm in your life today to propel you forward and upward to your next dream. It’s hard, but the eagle says “you can do it”!
