All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Over time I have been asked this, as I am sure many of you have.  How do we Walk in The Spirit?

12 Consequently, brothers, we are not—with respect to human nature, that is—under an obligation to live according to human nature. 13 For if you live according to human nature, you are going to die, but if by the Spirit you continuously put to death the activities of the body, you will live. Rom 8:12-13

We know of ourselves we will fail.  Yet, we are not alone.  What are some of the verse you stand on, to help you Walk in The Spirit?  Maybe some verses that give you the Strength needed to Live the life we have been called to Live.

2 Because they are united in love, I pray that their hearts may be encouraged by all the riches that come from a complete understanding of the full knowledge of the Messiah, who is the mystery of God. 3 In Him are stored all the treasures of Wisdom and Knowledge. Col 2:2-3

15 Therefore, because I have heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 I never stop giving thanks for you as I mention you in my prayers. 17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, the most Glorious Father, would give you a wise spirit, along with Revelation that comes through Knowing the Messiah fully. 18 Then, with the eyes of your hearts enlightened, you will know the Confidence that is produced by God having called you, the rich Glory that is His Inheritance among the saints, 19 and the unlimited greatness of His power for us who believe, according to the working of His Mighty Strength, 20 which He brought about in the Messiah when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His Right Hand in the Heavenly realm. Eph 1:15-20

O.K. Chris,

One of my favorites is Romans 12:2, " And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

The  literal meaning of "renewing"  is renovating, which means to completely destroy the old, (mind of flesh) and completely rebuild a new mind (of God's Word). This is laying a new foundation to build a new life from.

Good sharing with you, Chris.

Grace and Peace.

Richard Thank you.

I feel the reason I have been lead to post this discussion is, first for those young in walk and or new to the things of The Spirit.  And, for all others no matter where they are, to see how each of us are lead by The Spirit, through The Word of God.

I have seen some who somehow think the things of The Spirit, are beyond what we can find in The Word.  Sadly pride can lead so many astray.  Then when the needed humbling comes from our Loving Father. Some walk away from either the things of The Spirit, or their beliefs all together.

So for us to share verses from The Word, well I am sure you see where I am going with this.  Then to read the verse you have shared, speaks to the core of what I believe The Spirit is showing me.  Thank you for sharing and the confirmation.

Lord Bless you Brother

Chris

Chris,

Thank you for sharing your heart. I have learned that there are many "walk" themes in the bible. Walking with the Lord, in spirit, will  give you strength to live they way he called us to be. Running, is not what God wants us to do in our spiritual growth with him. Often, when we run in life (fast paced, worldly distractions, etc), we miss God. We can end up running right passed Him, without us evening see Him. Jesus walked, as He taught. We need to walk with Him, if we are to learn and gain our strength from Him. In Micah 6:8 ... And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Duet. 28:9 ... if you keep the commands of the Lord your God and walk in his ways. Duet. 10:12-... what the does the Lord your God ask of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, serve him with all your heart and all your soul. Duet. 11:22- If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow-to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways. Duet. 5:33-Walk in all the way the Lord your God has commanded you.

There are other examples of "walking with God". I believe God is teaching us the importance of walking with Him, in order to experience His strength. As we walk with Him, experience His presence, He will give us the strength and wisdom to be the person he called us to be. We need to walk-stay with Jesus, depend on him to carry us. The Holy Spirit in us, is our strength. The Lord  shows our need to rely on Him. By trusting in God, and not running away from him, or running past him, we are strengthen in him and win by walking with Him.  To help you walk in the spirit, you have to walk with him. I have often run in my life, not knowing where Jesus was. While running, I must have lost him. I believe walking with him, is the way to grow spiritually, and show the fruit he wants us to share.

Thank you Brother for sharing the Wisdom in His Word.  So many times we just read some words without giving them the thought they deserve.  As you have clearly seen and pointed out, to walk not run when we need growth.  Yes, we are to run the race, yet for any like myself walking is far more my speed now.  I am able to ponder, meditate, and consider far more clearly His Word, when I do not try to run through my reading or Prayer.  But, give them both the time and patience they deserve, and for us to allow them work through us and open up our spirits and minds.  All to His Glory and according to His timing.  We want to run through so many things, thank you for reminding us to walk in Him.  Bless you Brother

To me , if you are walking with the Lord then you are walking with the Spirit, least that's is the way that I see it. I have for some time been trying to really and completely know the Spirit and do that which the Spirit leads me to do in all things. And to understand the Spirit seems that it can be very much a challenge as I know that is where the deep things of God are, one thing I seem to not totally understand is praying in the Spirit, can you by any means explain this to me so I might grow in the understanding of it? And then when one gets into the subject of grieving or quenching the Spirit, that is another thing which I don't  fully understand. I really do believe that when any discussion of the Holy Spirit comes about I've found that so many people seem lost or think the Spirit is just a force or something similar, and when told He is God ,just sort of look dumbfounded. Anyway I really think that this is a great group to begin understanding the Holy Spirit, and look forward to anything you may speak on, I've quite a bit of study information which I've already gone over many times, but still look forward to any comments you may share.

                                                             In Christ always,

Frank

My Brother Welcome.  I hope I am able to shed some light on your question.  To read a little of my story you can check out one of the early discussions, "Your Story."  For me Praying in The Spirit is more than just one thing.  It did begin with me when I started to Pray in tongues.  However, as I have grown in The Spirit, I see things deeper.  To Pray in The Spirit is to allow yourself to be Lead by The Spirit.

18 Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert in this with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints. 19  Pray also for me, that the message may be given to me when I open my mouth to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel. 20 For this I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I might be bold enough in Him to speak as I should.                Eph 6:18-20

9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, 12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. Col 1:9-12

In both of these verses we see the importance and Benefits {Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding, etc.} Frank I will share more but time is against me at this moment. As I look at these verses, I see to Pray in The Spirit has responsibility and benefits.  Some have asked me do you have to Pray in tongues?  I say no.  Yet, I do believe we must be open to The Spirit, to some that will lead them down that path, to others they have a different path.  We are The Body, we all have different functions and needs.  As I have said many times, "the little toe on the left foot, needs different things than the elbows or heart needs.  Yet, all are fed the same way.  I also look forward to learning about you Frank.

May The Love of The Lord Shine through.  Merry Christmas

Chris

Brother Chris,

Thank you kindly for your reply and the scripture you shared with me. So it seem to me as though if we are In Christ, that when we pray ,that we are already praying in the Spirit, at least that's where it leads me. As we have been promised that the Spirit indwells us at conversion and will always be with us, never to leave, although I do know that we are able to quench or grieve the Spirit through sin and our failure to yield to Him. For the last couple of months I've been going thru some trials and tribulations though I do feel now that I'm finally coming out of them , and perseverance and the sharing words of a sister have been that which helped me to stay strong and trusting in the Lord thru it all, of course that's the way its been every since I have asked the Lord for His sanctification and totally committed to His will no matter what it may be. And by my being able to trust in God in some of my darkest hours has been that which brought me out of the wilderness each time. And I do believe that sanctification is a lifelong experience in the ways of being made in Christs image, and becoming Holy, all for the Glory of God. Well Chris, I will end now and have a few other things that call at the moment, once again thanks for your sharing, will talk more later.

                                                                    In His love,

                                                                       Frank

I all ways stand on  Eph 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Spiritual strength and courage are needed for our spiritual warfare and suffering. as we walk  in the spirit thanks Chris for sharing.
