Good evening to yo all from a warmish Cape Town. (Strange for the middle of winter, but I'm not complaining!) Tonight I continue my message about the churches. The next church mentioned in Revelation is, of course the church of Smyrna. A look at history reveals that this church was a much persecuted church in a wealthy city that couldn't stand Christians or any thing to do with them. So bad was the persecution of that church, that even the members of this church's businesses, homes etc was targetted or boicotted or destroyed. This did not stop them from persevering in their unshakeble faith in Christ.
Likewise, the church age symbolised by this church (AD 100-312). Christians in this bloody age suffered probably the greatest time of persecution the Church of Christ has EVER KNOWN. However, no matter the severity of Satan's attack on these people, they just continued to overcome the the one condemming characteristic of the Apostolic Age: that of having left it's first love. From my amplified Bible I quote the 4 C's tonight:
COMMENDATION: (verse 9) " I know your affliction and distress and pressing trouble and your poverty - but you are rich! and how you are abused and reviled and slandered by those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan."
Let me just pause here for a moment to say to you the following: ANY CHURCH, NO MATTER WHAT IT IS CALLED, THAT DOES NOT PREACH THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST IS A SYNAGOGUE OF SATAN!!!

CONDEMNATION: Try as I might, I could not find a single word of condemnation from Christ to this church!

COUNCIL: (verse 10) "Fear nothing that you are about to suffer. (Dismiss your dread and your fears!) Behold, the devil is indeed about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested and proved and critically appraised, and for ten days you will have affliction. Be faithful into death (even if you must die for it) and I will give you the crown of life.

Like Paul said in His letter to The Phillipians: " For me to live is Christ (His life in me), and to die is gain. (the gain of the glory of eternity)"

CHALLENGE: "He who is able to hear, let him listen and heed what the Spirit says to the assemblies (churches). He who overcomes (is victorious) shall in no way be injured by the second death"

How many Christians today, when faced with the ultimate choice - Christ or death- will choose Christ? Ask yourself: Will I, like the people from the Church (age)of Smyrna rather die than renounce my faith? I pray that no-one reading this will ever be put in such a position. For me personally there is no choice. I have no life. My life belongs to Jesus. He saved my life when He gave His.

Sorry guys, it seems this Monday's BLUE still hadn't worn off! I just realised I never listed the churches! They are apart from the one that I've written about:
Smyrna - Persecuted Church (AD 100-313)
Pergamos - State Church ( AD 313-590)
Thyatira - Papal Church (AD 590-1517)
Sardis - Reformed Church (AD 1517-1790)
Philadelphia - Missionary Church (AD 1730-1900)
Laodicea - Apostate Church (AD 1900- ??)

Good evening every-one in the glorious name of Christ. Sorry this message is so late today, but a bluer Monday before today, I have not yet seen!
My message tonight as promised (and over due, I know!) is about the 7 churches of Revelation. Possibly some of you may have read about these churches wondering why these specific churches was singled out by Jesus. What made them so special that they are mentioned in a book to do with future events?
Bible prophesy scholars have generally agreed that the messages to the seven churches can have 4 possible applications:
1) Seven actual churches in John's day
Obviously there were by this time (approx 63 years after Pentecost) a lot more that just 7 churches. So why these 7?
2) It is believed that they represent the 7 basic periods in the history of the church from Pentecost untill His 2nd coming. I will list them in a moment.
3) Then we can take this a step further and say that these 7 churches also represent the seven types of churches existing today.
4) Then take it even further by suggesting that they represent 7 characteristics existing in ant church or christian.

What is the importance of the church in any age?
In Revelation the churches are likened to lampstands. This is symbolic of the task that was given to the church (and christians!) to bear the light of God into the world. The church of Christ was founded on the testimony of HIS PERSONAL DEITY. After all, Jesus states very clearly in Matt 16:18 that He will build His church and "the gates of Hades shall not over power it." He spoke prophetically about the the destiny of the church because He intended to see to it PERSONALLY that it be PROTECTED. This is seen most clearly in John's vision portraying Christ walking among the lampstands and later in His COMMENDATION, CONDEMNATION, COUNSEL, and CHALLENGE of each of these churches. The 4 C's that is just as vitally important and relevant today as it was in AD94!
Now let us take a closer look at the 1st of those seven churches.
Rev 2:1-7 The church of Ephesus (The Apostolic Church (age)(AD 30-100)
COMMENDATION: "I know your deeds, tour hard work and perseverence. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those that claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for My name, and have not grown weary...you hate the practises of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate" WOW. To receive such a commendation from my Saviour...
But then, CONDEMNATION: "You have forsaken your first love." How many of us today say we are Christians but it has become just routine, a chore, something faded into the background of our every day life? We have allowed ourselves to "fall out of love" with Christ.
COUNSEL: "Remember the hight from which you have fallen! Repent and do the the things you did at first." Christ wants us to "fall back in love" with Him. He wants us to feel about our faith the way we used to when it was still new! He wants us to look at how we felt and lived our faith when we were 1st saved and compare it to the state of our faith now, AND GET IT BACK ON TRACK.
Lastly His CHALLENGE to this church: "To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God" Need I say anymore? Isn't that reason enough to get back to the first love of Christ?

Love in Christ

Hi
I have heard something about that and I will research it, but I have seen it on the twenty dollar bill when it's folded you will see the picture of the twin towers on fire, and the pentagon on fire, and also the last one I had gotten with Obama name on the twenty dollar bill, now is this prohesy or what?

This morning I'm posing an open question to anybody that might give insight. I've heard from a few people that the Twin towers incident was in fact prophesied in the Bible. In Daniel to be exact. Maybe the Lord has chosen not to reveal this specific prophesy to me, but I have read through the book of Daniel quite a few times already in my studies and I can't seem to find this event prophesied in there. Am I missing something? Or are the people who told me this just a little over-zealous?

Before we start, my appologies for my absense yesterday. I'm experiencing some major technical difficulties with my computer and modem. This is the third attempt at posting this message. I pray that God will allow me to send this off today.
Before we lool at the churches in detail, let us have a look at John's description of the Person behind the voice like a war trumpet (Rev 1:10).
Firstly, John describes this being as "someone like the son of man" meaning that this being was HUMAN in appearance.(Rev 1:13)
He is dressed in a robe reaching down to His feet(verse 13) signifying His rank as High Priest (Hebrews 5:10)
He wears a golden sash around His breast. (verse 13) In ancient times only people in possitions of authority wore sashes. In Matt 28:18 Jesus says: "all the authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me"
His hair and head is white as white wool, as snow (verse 14) indicating His antiquity. it also reminds us of Daniels vision in Dan 7:9-13 where the Lord is called Ancient of Days.
His eyes are blazing fire suggeting that Jesus is very upset here about something. Exactly what, we shall see when we study the churches.
John describes His feet as to be like bronze glowing in a fire, a reference to the brazen altar of the Tabernacle in the Old Testament where sin was judged.
He furthermore describes Jesus as having a voice like the sound of rushing waters. I don't know who of you had ever stood next to a river coming down after a heavy storm, or near a waterfall. The sound of all that water drowns out any other sound around it. Not many people hears God's voice today, but there will come a day when His voice will be the ONLY sound that we will hear.
The seven stars in His right hand, the Lord Himself identifies as being seven angels that ministers to the seven churches.
There is a double edged sword coming from his mouth. Eph 6 refers to the word of God being the sword of the Spirit and Heb 4:12 tells us thet the Word is sharper than any double edged sword.
"His face like the sun shining in all it's brilliance" is a reference to Christ's divinity. Matt 17:2 describes what happened on the Mount of Transfiguration: "...was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun and His clothes became as white as the light"
See how every one of these descriptions denoted God's POWER and AUTHORITY?
We see next in verse 17 that John was knocked out cold by this image. "as if dead" but then Jesus tells Him to not be afraid. Four reasons arre given why he (AND US) should not be afraid.
1) "I am the First and the Last" He is eternal and He is in control.
2) "And the Ever-living one. I died but see,
3) I am alive FOREVERMORE"
4) "I posses the keys of death and Hades" meaning He conquered death and Hades by His resurection thereby giving to those that accept Him EVERLASTING LIFE.

I will be back later with the message that was meant for today: a detailed look at the seven churches and what they signify for us today.
