At a time when members of our military are putting their lives at risk — fighting to protect our freedoms in places like Afghanistan and Iraq — there are those here in America who are calling for military chaplains to mask their faith ... NOT to pray in the name of Jesus. That’s censorship, plain and simple. At the ACLJ, we won’t stand by while the constitutional rights of our military heroes are being trampled. We’re working alongside Congressman Walter Jones to protect the constitutional rights of military chaplains — to pray according to their faith. Please read the form below carefully and declare your membership with the ACLJ by adding your name to our Petition to Protect Military Prayer.
PETITION TO PROTECT MILITARY PRAYER
TO:
President of the United States, Barack Obama
The United States Congress
It is an outrage. To censor the prayers of military chaplains in their crucial ministry to our servicemen and women is not only a disrespect of their faithful service to our country, it’s also a blatant breach of their constitutional rights — the very freedoms they are fighting to protect. Unfortunately, today there are strong forces at work in our country which would advocate such restrictions.
From the Oval Office to the United States Congress, immediate action must be taken to protect military prayer and the constitutional rights of military chaplains. We respectfully request that you, as Commander-in-Chief, approve an Executive Order which would protect the constitutional rights of our military chaplains to pray according to their faith and that Congress act swiftly to pass H.R. 268 to ensure that every military chaplain has the prerogative to pray according to the dictates of his own conscience.
