"Miraculous" Growth in Three Easy Steps

How to Grow
Many Christians say they want to grow in their spiritual life or get closer to God, but they don't know how or lack a plan. Growth in Christ can be as simple as following through with what we call the 2-3-2 plan. You will be amazed at how your spiritual life develops; it will seem almost miraculous!

Developing a Daily Habit
One of the goals of the 2-3-2 plan is to develop some healthy habits or spiritual disciplines you’ll practice daily. Most of us don’t like the word discipline, but just as brushing one’s teeth, taking a bath, exercise, and eating healthy food on a daily basis promotes physical health and growth, good daily spiritual disciplines promote a healthy relationship with God. Over time, you’ll find yourself building spiritual vibrancy, health and “muscle” which will enable you to rely more on the Lord, help you cope with life challenges and relate better to others. Looking back, you’ll see how you've grown and how you are better able to cope with life challenges because you were following God’s “owners manual” for life (the Bible), regularly seeking God’s help, and making better, wiser choices.

Growth Takes Time
Keep in mind that even though you may have received Jesus Christ as your Savior and now have a relationship with God, changing your thought patterns and learning to live consistently in this new way often takes a long time. One doesn’t just wake up one morning after years of inactivity and decide to compete in an Olympic marathon race that afternoon. That is why good, consistent, daily training and habits are needed. It takes time to replace a long history of bad habits with good ones. So be patient with yourself and others on the same journey.

The Quiet Time
One of the most important spiritual habits is a daily “quiet time” or “devotional” time.

Have you ever noticed two people in love? They just can't get enough time alone with each other! In the same way, God wants a love relationship with you. A daily quiet time is time you will schedule to meet with Him. Notice that we said schedule, because it is not going to happen by accident. You need to be very deliberate about this. To start, plan on setting aside 30 minutes every day for your devotional time. The amount of time is only a suggestion; don’t get fixated. Remember it is not a formula, but a relationship.

Quiet Time - Learn More

A Method to Consider:
Ask God when He would like you to meet with Him. Write down when you believe He would like you to have your appointment together. ___:___ to ____:____ AM/PM

2-3-2 What is That?
2: Means worship God by listening to TWO Christian worship music songs and/or singing praise to God. Check out some of the member's profiles here on TheNET. Many have uploaded lots of good worship music. Worship is important because God loves it! Worship sets our hearts and minds in tune with God. Remember it is all about a love relationship with Him! Don't skip this step!

3: Means read THREE chapters (or more) of the Bible. Tell God you love Him and ask Him to help you understand, learn from, and speak to you from His Word, the Bible.

If you wish, use this Daily Bible Reading Plan (this will be at least three chapters). The Daily Bible Reading Plan is a PDF file you read, save and print using Adobe Reader. If you don’t have Adobe Reader, you can download it free. You may print the reading plan for quick reference.

You can read the Bible online or use a printed copy. For English users, we recommend the New International Version or the New Living Translation because generally they are easier to read and understand.

Print out the Bible Reading Highlights Record (also a PDF file). Try to answer one or more of the eight questions listed at the top of the page. (You can print additional pages as necessary and keep all your devotional insights in a notebook or folder). You may also want to write what God is teaching you every day in your blog. That way other believers can benefit from what you are learning!

2: Means talk with God, thanking him; and asking him TWO questions about what you read, asking for help for others and yourself or about anything else as you would your closest friend.

OK, so have you scheduled your quiet time with God yet? God is waiting to meet with you!

Growing together with you!

John, I understand how hurt and confused you felt on learning of this misleading idea of being a victim of a generational curse. And this is just what the devil, who comes to steal, to kill, and destroy the good things God has blessed us with in Christ, intends the mindless propagation of the this myth to do. Greg did a concise but effective job in his advice to you.

I have had to address this topic before on the ning network and, I think, here on allaboutgod in forum discussions. But the devil has his agents bent on despising the power of the Cross and denying the justice, faithfulness, mercy and grace of God. I am glad that the Lord has enlightened you and restored your peace.

I have tried to avoid promoting my book on the subject on the network but I think it would now be to the benefit of our readers to get a copy of the book. It is The Myth of the Generational Curse (Xulon Press, 2007). It is available to be ordered from booksellers online. And those of you with access to bookstores, inform your favourite bookstores about it and ask them to distribute it.

What has happened to you, John, is just evidence that this misleading idea of generational curses can hurt believers badly. We the propagators of the truth of the Gospel must contend for the faith. I believe the the Holy Spirit inspired me to write this book to carefully refute the idea of generational curses on the sound basis of plain Scriptural references. The truth brings liberty.

Hi, a sweet lady I knew shortly after Jesus saved me, had cancer. A "friend" of hers told her the reason she had cancer was because she had sin in her life. People say the most awful things! Things that harm instead of help!
I'm glad you wrote for help John. I hope there will always be help here.
I like this verse...looking unto Jesus the author and the finisher of our faith. Darlene

Question: "What does the Bible say about breaking generational curses?"

Answer: The Bible mentions “generational curses” in several places (Exodus 20:5; 34:7; Numbers 14:18; Deuteronomy 5:9). It sounds unfair for God to punish children for the sins of their fathers. However, this is looking at it from an earthly perspective. God knows that the effects of sin are passed down from one generation to the next. When a father has a sinful lifestyle, his children are likely to have the same sinful lifestyle as well. That is why it is not unjust for God to punish sin to the third or fourth generation – because they are committing the same sins their ancestors did. But they are being punished for their own sins, not the sins of their ancestors. The Bible specifically tells us that God does not hold children accountable for the sins of their parents (Deuteronomy 24:16).

There is a trend in the church today to try and blame every sin and problem on some sort of generational curse. This is not biblical. The cure for generational curses is salvation through Jesus Christ. When we become Christians, we are new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17). How can a child of God still be under God’s curse (Romans 8:1)? The cure, then, for a “generational curse” is faith in Christ and a life consecrated to Him (Romans 12:1-2).

John,

I saw your post below and wanted to write for your encouragement. I want to let you know that you are being spiritually abused by people who say that you are cursed, or that you do not have enough faith to claim your healting, or that you have to have some special spiritual impartation of the Holy Spirit through the laying on of hands. I don't know where people are getting this, but it is not in keeping with the clear teaching of Scripture which says very simply: "If we confess our sins, He [God] is faithful and just and will forgive us of our sins and purify us from ALL unrighteousness" (I John 1:9). The last time I checked the word "all" meant ALL! That included all dabling in Mormonism, the occult and any other kind of sin! So praise God, If you have confessed these things to God, you are, according to his promise, "Clean". What they are talking about drinking dirty water, etc. is just a bunch of hooey!

Tell them to show it you in Scripture!

It is God who decides to heal. We can ask for it, but we have no control over it. It is God's decision. It doesn't depend on the amount of faith you have. I know you have faith, so that is not the problem. These people are forgetting that HE has the final say and not people.

So, John, I would recommend that you find a church where people can love on you and stop heaping up the condemnation and the abuse. Find a place where they nurture instead of beat the sheep!
