How can trials be helpful to us?
James 1:3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
When have you had to persevere to reach a goal? What kept you going? How did this experience change you for the better?
God is the light, and He guides us through our lives. We need to remember He is always with us.
Your theology must work itself out, exhibiting itself in your most common everyday relationships.
From:
REgeneration:
REgeneration is not about reforming a life, but transforming it. REgeneration brings to the heart something that was never there before. Through REgeneration, God makes all things new—new life, new hope, new heart, new goals, new purpose, new love. In REgeneration, the life of God, through the person of the Holy Spirit, enters within you, bringing about a new birth. The life of the Spirit takes you from where you never could be, and brings you into all God created you to be— turning your darkness into light, your emptiness into completeness, your spiritual death into spiritual life.
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration. Titus 3:5
Colossians 2:6-19
Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong (v.7).
Our works of faith reveal the condition of our heart and position us for further spiritual growth, but they can’t make a filthy heart clean (Ephesians 2:8; James 2:17-26).
In a world so dependent on the visible, we need to take inventory of our own motivations. Spiritual disciplines, ministry involvement, and financial giving are all vital parts of a healthy spiritual walk. But at the point at which we believe that any of these things grant us security, we’ve missed the mark. Jesus called us to grow “with a growth which is from God” (Colossians 2:19 NASB). He doesn’t call us to spiritual busyness.
Jesus is the only way to life, because He alone can heal our sin disease. This was Peter’s point in Acts 4 as he addressed the religious leaders. As the crippled man “was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ,” so there is “no other name under heaven by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:10,12).
Peter’s insistence that Jesus is the only way strikes people in one of two ways. If they believe that people are basically good, they will think it is unloving to insist that everyone must believe in Jesus. But if they agree with Scripture that we are all sinners (Romans 3:10-12), they will understand that everyone needs a Savior.
Any path will not do. For we who are crippled by sin can’t take a single step toward righteousness without God’s help. We need a healer, and there’s only one candidate for that job. His name is Jesus.
God is Spirit. We cannot worship God without the Holy Spirit! Other places we are told that true worship is worship in the Spirit (Phil. 3:3; Eph. 5:17-21 -- notice "pray in the Spirit" Eph. 6:17; Jude 20). More than engaging our minds and our bodies, we need the presence of the Holy Spirit to help us worship acceptably. This is true for two reasons. The first is that the Holy Spirit gives us access to the Father (Eph. 2:18), the Spirit intercedes for us (Rom. 8:26-27), and the Spirit enables us to cry Abba Father to God spirit with Spirit to God (Rom. 8:14-17; Gal. 4:6). The second reason is that the Spirit is at work conforming us to be like Jesus (2 Cor. 3:18), empowering us to put to death the misdeeds of the body (Rom. 8:9-13), and to display the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23). This is why being born of "water and the Spirit" is so important (John 3:3-7; Titus 3:3-7). Without the Spirit, true worship will not happen. We MUST have the Spirit to worship in spirit and truth!
Father, thank you for sending Jesus to reveal your truth and for sending the Spirit to make that truth come alive in me. May my life be a living and holy praise to you! In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
