James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

To confess is to do two things with our sin: 1) to recognize sin for what it is in God's eyes and 2) to get rid of our secrets and be honest with another Christian. James' language is powerful. He mentions that this confession doesn't just bring forgiveness. It also brings healing.

Psalm 16:1-2 Preserve me, O God, for I take refuge in You.

2 I said to the LORD, "You are my Lord;

I have no good besides You."

The joys and benefits of a life lived in companionship with God. We enjoy these benefits now and eternally.

Jeremiah 29:11 'For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.

12 'Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.

13 'You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.

God knows the future, and His plans for us are good and full of hope.  We will suffer and have hardships in our lives, but God will see us through to a glorious conclusion.

God can be sought and found when we seek Him wholeheartedly. Nothing can break that communion.

Philippians 2:4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

When things are going well for us, we may start to think that we who don’t have troubles are better somehow, or are more loved by God, than those who are struggling. We forget that the effects of this fallen world are indiscriminate.

We are all loved by the Lord and we all need Him—in good times and bad. The successes, abundance, and positions that God has given to us are tools to help us encourage others in their time of need.

A New Year for fellowship in our Lord, Jesus Christ

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

9 And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

The Lord makes me feel worthy, and when I am down He lifts me up. God's love gives me strength. So powerful God Almighty!

Turn to God to seek pathways for effectiveness. Our weaknesses not only helps develop Christian character; it also deepens our worship because in admitting our weakness, we affirm God's strength.

When we are week, allowing God to fill us with His power, then we are stronger than we could ever be on our own. When obstacles come, we must depend on God. Only His power will make us effective for Him and will help us do work that has lasting value.

1 John 1:3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

When John, one of Jesus’ 12 disciples, was an old man, he wrote a letter in which his opening words established him as an eyewitness and close companion of Jesus: “The life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us” (1 John 1:2). His goals in writing were “that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ” (v.3) and “that your joy may be full” (v.4).

The eyewitness accounts of Jesus’ disciples help lead us to faith in Christ. Even though we have not seen Him as they did, we have believed.

And He took the bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, "This is My body, which is given for you: this do in remembrance of Me." Luke 22:19

"Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel." -- Isaiah 7:14

There they found Mary, Joseph and the baby, in the stable. After the shepherds' visit, they began to spread the word about this amazing child and everything the angel had said about him. They went on their way still praising and glorifying God. But Mary kept quiet, treasuring their words and pondering them in her heart. It must have been beyond her ability to grasp, that sleeping in her arms -- the tender child she had just borne -- was the Savior of the worlds'
