All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I'm just curious about what appeals to you most about a relationship with God.

Lea, this is a trick question. Some say that you can be baptized as a child and that seals the deal. Yet others say that you do this out of obedience to God's commandment. Acts 2:38 tell us to be baptized following salvation, so do the gospels. Salvation is free. Baptism is an act of obedience to God. You aren't baptized into a church or a denomination like some might tell you. You're being baptized for the remission of your sins and into the body Christ. I always encourage people to seek baptism as an adult. It has to done in obedience, not as a ritual or a traditional act.

And to method,...I prefer being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. But many other denominations use Father, Son, Holy Spirit. These are both valid and both the same. I hope that I haven't confused you.

I was raised in a strict Catholic household and taught by nuns. We were told that the advantage to being baptized as a baby is that godparents stand in for you and answer the questions for you, the main one being that they promise to see that you are raised in God's family.
Isabelle, not to be impolite, but it doesn't matter which church you belong to or who taught you. The teachings of people are just that... the teaching's of people. Each of us needs to go back to the Bible, God's authoritative and final word to know the truth. The Bible does not teach us to baptize infants or to have godparents to answer religious questions. Let's go back to the Bible to get our answers straight from God.
Hi Isabelle- I too was baptized as an infant. I attended the Catholic Church for a number of years. I began attending an evangelical Bible teaching church and then began to grow in my faith. As I studied the Bible I learned that all baptisms in the Bible were of believers. the phrase in the Bible you see a lot is "they believed and were baptized". So, the people being baptized were old enough to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, repent of their sins, etc. Baptism is a public statement that I make about my faith. Understanding this led me to the point I believed that the statement that my parents made at my infant baptism was theirs, not mine. God wants us to make this statement of our faith on our own. So I was rebaptized and it was a wonderful experience.

Why do some churches baptize infants? Historically it is not totally clear. The Catholic Church, which was the only church until the reformation, got to the point that they taught that slavation was given to us by doing the sacraments, not salvation by grace. Salvation by grace is what is taught in the Bible. With their salvation by sacrament belief, the question arrises if an ifant or young child dies prior be being able to observe a sacrament does the child go to heaven or hell? Of course the Bible says that the child goes to heaven. However, since their theology of salvation was in error, it created the desire to baptize infants.
i love to spend hours talking to Him and knowing that He is there for me and cares for me.
I'm thankful for a relationship with God because, not only has He saved me from the hell I so richly deserved, but he has given me a wonderful life (John 10:10). I don't know where I would be without Him. I would probably have committed suicide by now, because without God, life is meaningless.

God directs my life and protects me too. A couple weeks ago, I almost fell of the roof of my house, but God kept me from slipping off and breaking every bone in my body (or worse). Praise Him!
He loves me no matter what.It has taken me a long time to ask god ino my life.
I have never been happier!
This is like asking me why I want a relationship with my human father. He gave me life, he protects me and cares what happens to me.
What appeals to me the most about a relationship with God.

I would have to say.. He is always there no matter what and that I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Without God, there would not be life. And though there is often obstacles and devastation, does not mean that God doesn't care for us. He deepens our faith when we turn to him during adversity. I also know that he is creating a wonderful place for us. One without affliction, pain, suffering. A place where we will be with the Lord side by side. Even though we are with him now through the Holy Spirit. God helps me make better choices. Even though we are all sinners, he is a Graceful God that forgives his children, with unconditional Love.
Theres so many things that make me want to have a relationship with God. But I think my number one would be the peace that He brings me unlike anything any human relationship I might have, God will never let me down!
He's like a faithful pet dog in the respect that no matter how many times I walk away from Him (stray), he looks at me with those sad eyes (on his way to Calvary carrying His cross) and begging him to take Him back and accept him. But unlike my pet, he's very demanding: those Ten Commandments are sometimes awfully difficult in the face of the devil's enticements. We were taught that there are three main drawbacks to heaven: the world, the flesh, and the devil. That doesn't leave much room for fun. Fortunately, His promises are worth it, right?
