John 15:14
"You are my friends if you do what I command you."
In one sense, there are no requirements for being a friend of Jesus, and yet in anoter sense, there are. Friendship with Jesus requires that we acknowledge that He "is a friend like no other". If you truly want to be a friend of Jesus, you must acknowledge that without Him you can never achieve salvation. It requires a change of lifestyle which only He can do. He comes into your life and begins cleaning out the dirty sin that lives deep in every one of us. No, we don't instantly change, or suddenly do everything right: it's a process, in which He helps us to become more like Himself. To be a friend of Jesus is to admit that He is Lord of all and we are accountable to Him for our wrongs, but because of His substitutionary death and resurrection, He no longer sees us as sinners, but as children of God - friends of God.
