What example are we following?
Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.—3John 1:2
Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.—3John 1:11
This 3 John was been exhorted many times in our church and today my spirit is alarming for some emails I am receiving everyday. This letter of John, the Beloved is very timing for all of us today… I don’t see this message to apply only in one congregation but also now in our Christian fellowship in net… in 3 John it demonstrate 4 people with different characteristic--- John, the beloved; Gaius; Diotrephes; and Demetrius. Let us all read the 3 John:
3 John 1
1The elder,
To my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
2Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. 3It gave me great joy to have some brothers come and tell about your faithfulness to the truth and how you continue to walk in the truth. 4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
5Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, even though they are strangers to you. 6They have told the church about your love. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God. 7It was for the sake of the Name that they went out, receiving no help from the pagans. 8We ought therefore to show hospitality to such men so that we may work together for the truth.
9I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will have nothing to do with us. 10So if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, gossiping maliciously about us. Not satisfied with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers. He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church.
11Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God. 12Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone—and even by the truth itself. We also speak well of him, and you know that our testimony is true.
13I have much to write you, but I do not want to do so with pen and ink. 14I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face.

This four people in the book of 3 John refers to the leaders of the church… and here in Christian Fellowship sites we can also see the characteristics of this “men of God”.
John warned Gauis, a godly man who already know the Truth, working in Truth and now prospering in soul/and his spirit. John revealed to Gaius about two kind of “men of God” which has big difference in their characters and in telling the Truth. One has an evil character, Diotrephes who is arrogant, ambitious and wants first place among the believers. All his works he wants to get the credit himself not to God’s glory! And the worst, twisting the Truth, putting heresy putting his own ideas, casting out of the truth. In Romans 15:1-7 says:
We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: "The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me." or everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
And this man is destroying the enjoyment of the one who prosper now his soul to God! That’s why many Christians are now mixed up by the way this Diotrephes act.
Contrary to Demetrius, who walk in Truth, carry the Truth and testified the Truth! A righteous man in the eye of God.
Gaius , a godly man… stands as WE, the body of Christ… who must be aware and beware. That’s why in verse 11 of 3 John it says: Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.
We need to remember this…
If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.—Gal.5:15:18
As Paul also said: Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.—1 Cor. 11:1
Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you.—Phil. 3:17
And the best thing we must do is Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.—Hebrew 12:2-3
Now, my brothers and sisters… If we are now the Gaius that working in Truth and willing to prosper our soul we must always ask God wisdom and knowledge to know who is Demetrius and Diotrephes in your list of friends? Be like the Bereans in Acts 17:11 :
Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
Let us all follow the example of Jesus and fix our eyes on Him…and do not follow the example of Diotrephes…
All this things we are doing must not be a credential of our own might and power but giving glory to God alone…
Thank you, Lord for this revelation today.. truly Your guidance and protection is all with us.. and You don’t want your people to be totally deceive by the enemy…
Praise you, Lord for all the things You’ve done for all of us…
To God be all the Glory…
