All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

How do we refute the Claim of the homosexual community that they are born with such tendencies That it has to do with genetics?

Romans 1
21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. 28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

The American Psychological Association defines sexual orientation as such: Sexual orientation is an enduring emotional, romantic, sexual, or affection attraction that a person feels toward another person. Sexual orientation falls along a continuum. In other words, someone does not have to be exclusively homosexual or heterosexual, but can feel varying degrees of attraction for both genders. Sexual orientation develops across a person's lifetime—different people realize at different points in their lives that they are heterosexual, gay, lesbian, or bisexual.

There has been much debate about what causes homosexuality. Is there a gay gene? Is homosexuality caused by environmental factors, such as upbringing, child molestation, an absent mother or affectionate father? Or is it something we’re born with, an inherited trait, like skin or hair color?

Although there have been few studies on the cause of homosexuality, the debate seems to be divided, with scientists unable to give conclusive evidence either way. you ask most gay people they will tell you that being gay is not something they chose. However there is another portion that would honestly say that is was a choice.
Is there a gay gene?

Scientists have not been able to conclude that there is any gene or combination of genes that will make someone gay. Genetics is very complex and scientists continue to study both humans and animals chromosomes for linkage to sexual orientation.

A person being born with more Male or female hormones is fact, but that is not part of genetics/DNA. So there is no scientific evidence in existence to prove that genetics causes homosexuality. Hormonal misbalance does effect the individual but it does not predispose the person either way.
What I tried to convey is that hormones are one thing and genetics are another. Our biological map (genetic structure) does affect us in multiple levels if not all levels, but there is no study in existence that proof that genetically there is a predisposition to homosexuality even though genetics affect hormonal levels, which can make a male have a softer physic or be more emotional, but that has always been and it does not determine gender roles that are encoded in the genes. So a male with more female hormones will be more sensitive, but a male none the less.
A pastor freind of mine had to say the following about the subject.

I like to look at it from a sin perspective . The BIble is clear all are born sinners. The stain of sin covers our entire being . It is almost what gives us our identity before coming to know Jesus. That stain may look like a substance abuse issue , anger or even homoesexuality . I believe that we were all born sinner made "whatever" through whatever path our sin nature took. What is the answer ? Jesus Christ ! Once saved that person will have to understand their sin nature and understand what needs to take place in order for the life of God to be formed.

Pastor James Purser
Is the homosexual's claim that he or she was genetically programmed an excuse for living a sinful life? Whether they carry a gay gene, or "choose" to become gay during their lives is irrelevant. What matters is that they confess that Jesus is Lord, accept His forgiveness, and turn away from their sinful promiscuous lifestyle. With Jesus abiding within them, and the work of the Holy Spirit they can overcome their sin.
Well said Steve- Amen! In this group we understand perfectly what you stated, but we also in devour (not that you don't) to look at the various claims skeptics try to use against our beliefs.

Right on bro. Thanks for sharing!
I don not agree in any way with homosexuality. However I have run across people who say that we have misinterpreted the Hebrew Bible and it actually does not say that it is a sin. Also, they say that it may have been forbidden in those days because of health issues but that we are now exempt from it. (In other words the only reason it was wrong they didn't have a means to deal with the health issues and because it was so necessary for reproduction)
Like I said I don't agree with it. I agree with you completely but do you have an answer I can give them in response to that.
Also, God doesn't make mistakes. In the Garden of Eden He created man and then chose to make him a helpmate. So God created woman out of the man so he wouldn't be alone. If God was ok with men being with men or women being with women then what would the point have been Him creating woman for the man? I don't know if that made any sense.
Most definitely Desy,

First of all we have plenty of text from the Old and New Testament. The OT was written in Hebrew, but the N.T. is written in Greek and is the New convenent for the Church of today, the church Christ started.

Romans 1

24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality,[c] wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving,[d] unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

Anal intercourse has some very real, and potentially very harmful, medical considerations with regards to this activity. First, the anus is not "clean" from a bacterial standpoint, and anything which comes into contact with the anus can spread disease or infections.

Another problem is that the anus is not designed for "two-way traffic," While such damage may be very rare, it can be very serious, and may even require surgery.
Finally, the anus is not as sturdy as the vagina, and does not heal as easily. So nature it self lets us know that some sexual practices go againts nature and what our bodies are disigned to do.

hope that helps sis
Paul says in Colossians 3:5 - Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

I believe we are held accountable for the things we do with our bodies. Paul speaks very clear in 1 Corinthians 3:16 - Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? and again in 1 Corinthians 3:17 - If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

Thank you for this straight talk. Great post!
Hi Deserey, One thing I can add to your question whether or not homosexuality is a sin or not is first and foremost looking at the sin of fornication and adultery. If fornication and adultery was addressed before homosexuality, we could probably wipe out 99% of the problem. Whether a person is gay or straight, the bible is very clear that fornication and adultery is a sin. In Matthew 5:27-29 Jesus says, 27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: 28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. 29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. In 1 Corinthians 6:18 Paul says, 18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
My point is do we really need to discuss homosexuality before we address fornication and adultery? I believe Homosexuality is obviously a lifestyle, pretty much like Christianity, and there is some type of spiritual conversion that takes place.
Well, I hope this helps. Take care and God Bless.
ok hi eveyone, i have a cousin at age 4yrs. old eveyone thought he acted feminine, and he did so as he got older like 10yrs of age my other cousin wanted to do a study because we know he was born like that, well he hadnt had sex or been turned on any other kind of way, so hes 17 now and more feminine. i dont know, i think more of the female genes went into a male body,i think maybe his mom baby him, i dont know. his dad would try to play sports with him when he was little but he just wanted barney, no football no baseball no sports. they had another son and hes not intouch with his feminine side totally the opposite. Two sons raised by the same parents one is gay the other isnt. I know he was born gay because he was like that at 3yrs old, and still a virgin at 17 but gay well i dont know if hes gay but when u see him the first thing you will think is that hes gay. "do not judge others" hes going to college in atlanta next fall if hes not gay now, will he be?
I know of a lot of Gay people and of course they would say that they were born that way, but I knew of these people before they stated that they were gay and this was a decision. If you were always this was you would have known it. I also have a male friend that stated that he always knew that he was different, at a very young age he played dress up in his mothers clothes and would always get in trouble for it. He is gay today. Do I think he was born this way, no I think he was more comfortble with the same sex, as all the others I mentioned. Being that we were born with the knowledge of good and evil we know when something is not right and if we were to repent and ask God for help it would be given. I am a true witness to this. If you felt no shame for who you are and what you are doing, if you feel that Go made u this way, why hide it?

Being that we were born with the knowledge of good and evil

Were we?

but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die - Genesis 2:17

Suggests to me that we weren't.

I can't speak on behalf of an entire community but I do know that for my mate, the only concious decision she made about it was to accept it was part of who she was. She didn't ask to be gay, there are no obvious social or enviromental factors involved (her parents are Christian) and the time between her suspecting it and accepting it was long and hard so I don't think it's as straight forward as some are trying to make out.

Ultimately, it doesn't change how I interact with people. Gay or not, makes no difference to me, I treat everyone the same. It is a more emotional issue since how much choice does someone really have? Is it genetics, is it just a choice......it gets all very messy.
