All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

John 8:32

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

What does the Bible verse mean to you?  This one simple scripture with a depth of meaning is SO overlooked in the Christian life.

Hi Michelle,

This occurred in the midst of Jesus being opposed by many. There was a conflict going on with the Jews over who He said He is. When Jesus spoke these words, He was speaking to the Jewish believers telling them that He is these following things:
1) The true object of faith (John 8:21-30)
2) Messiah the True Deliverer (John 8:31-59)
3) Deliverer from sin (John 8:31-40)
4) Deliverer from satan (John 8:41-48)
5)Deliverer from death (John 8:49-59)

Verse 31 says:
Jhn 8:31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.
Jhn 8:32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

We must abide in Him...
Jhn 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

We can do nothing if we do not abide in Christ.
Jhn 15:1 ¶ I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

Jhn 15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every [branch] that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

Jhn 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

Jhn 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

Jhn 15:5 I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Today at my bible study we started talking about about the authority we have as believers. We didn't get through all of the things that are important to know as believers. When we realize our position in Spiritual Truth, we will live the abundant life as a believer. The question was posed: What does it mean to 'Be IN Christ'. We must learn these deeper implications of what it means to be 'In Christ' or 'In Him', and then, when we know the truth, the truth will make us free..

Here are 8 of the 33 positional Truths of Who we are In Christ.
1) Redemption (Romans 3:24, 1 Cor 1:30, Eph 1:7, Col 1:14)
The price of redemption was the blood of the Messiah.
We were purchased out of the slave market of sin and washed clean.
We have been set free to serve the Lord.

2) Reconciliation
The position of the world which was in a state of alienation from God--now all men are able to be saved. This does not mean all men will be saved, but anyone who calls on the name of the Lord (Romans 10:13)
There must be an agreement of faith.
This reconciliation is not between two faulty sinful parties---but rather, it is the offending mankind, which has now been reconciled to a Holy God.

3)Propitiation
The wrath of God is satisfied. The Messiah's death accomplished this (Romans 1:18)

4) Forgiveness--means all of the believers sins, PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE have been forgiven. When the Messiah died, He covered the believers sins for all time.

5) Justification--means to be declared righteous. Faith will result in the imparting of Jesus's Righteousness to us.

6) Glorification--The believer is Glorified in the sight of God. We have assured glorification in a future day.

7) Deliverence--From the power of darkness. We are no longer under any obligation what-so-ever to serve satan. Unbelievers are obligated to serve satan...they do not know anything else.

8) Circumcision--Not physical! Col 2:11--putting off the deeds of the flesh.
Practical application is to put off the deeds of the flesh and walk righteously before the Lord. It's wise to distinguish between a believers position and practise. A believer needs to try to keep his position consistent with his/her practise.

This is just a start. I'm hoping to get all of the 33 Positional Authorities we have as believers.. I'll post them here once I do.

Once we know the truth..the truth will make us free.. :-)
Of coarse a simple explanation is this: Jesus is the truth.. abide in Him and eyes on Him always.

Blessings sis.
In Him, Carla
Hey beloved sis Michelle,

These two verses have been my favorite verses of the bible since becoming born again and the ones I most often quote. It amazes me how God can place so much beautiful truth in few words. It blows my mind the amount of teaching these two verses have. When I quote them I verily scratch the surface of them, but there is precious truth in them.

John 8:31-32 (New International Version)

31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

Who is speaking here?"Jesus said"The perfect one, the Alpha and Omega, the Holy one, the creator of heaven and earth, Our King, Lord and Savior. Wow!!!! The one that cannot lie.

1. If you hold to my word/teaching - condition

What does it make you?
2. you are really my disciples.

What will happened then?

you will know the truth. What truth? The truth about everything pertaining to God and Godliness.

And then what happens?

3. the truth will set you free.

Free from what? From everything that wants to keep you down and enslaved.

Break Free with the Word.
'Iam the truth and the light', I know the truth and it has begun to set me free 'cause I am walking in the light. I agree very overlooked.
