The Word of God (written or given Word) is a great blessing. We know that the gospel is the mechanism that God uses in harmony with the Holy Spirit to draw people unto salvation. According to Romans 10 they must hear the Word of Christ in order to be saved. The key is understanding the purpose of the Bible. We are blessed to have it, but Jesus is our goal and our Savior. I do not see the Bible and Jesus as equal. That does not diminish the Word of God. Both are good, but one is the Savior and the other is the tool used to guide us to Him and into a living relationship with Him.
Imagine for a minute. If you were faced with Jesus on your left and the written the Word of God on the right and your were given a choice to choose one, which would it be? Fortunately we do not have to choose, but we know that Jesus died for us, the Bible records it. Jesus' blood covers our sins, the Bible reveals it. Jesus is coming back to take us to be where He is, the Bible reveals this to us. One is a witness the other is the Savior. Here is another way of approaching this, I love Jesus and I greatly appreciate the Bible. One more approach, the Bible reveals Jesus and in some parts of the world people have heard the gospel and maybe a few more verses, they do not own a Bible as it may not even have been written in their language at this time, but many repent and come to Jesus because they heard the gospel. They have Jesus and yet only snippets of the written Word.
If every Bible you own was stolen and access to any other Bible denied would you be lost or still in a living relationship with Jesus? On the other side of the coin does owning a Bible assure one is saved?
I close with this. The Bible and Jesus are both good. Thank God you own a Bible, praise God that you are saved.
What's your take on this?

Seek,
I agree with what you have said except that Jesus and the Bible are one in the same. I disagree for all the reasons I have listed before in this forum and will not attempt to retype it here :-)

Not actually meaning the Bible (as a book), but what is in the Bible...the Word. The scriptures do refer to Jesus as BEING the Word. So the Words written in the Bible are from Jesus, part of Him, given by the Holy Spirit, God, Jesus...however you can word that.
Understood and agreed. Jesus is the Living Word, God in the flesh. The Bible, the written Word, flows from God, because all Scripture is God breathed.

My brain ain't a functioning this week, so if I tend to ramble, chalk it up to medications, high blood pressure, a cortisone injection I got about 3 hours ago, and a flight I'm scheduled to take Sunday and don't know how to fit it all in, just to come back and possibly be scheduled to have tubes put in my ears. I'm falling apart here!
Praying for your medical situation and trusting God for your health.

Thanks guys. But all's good. Seems the medication I've been on to help with my sleep disorder was causing the BP problems, so dr. put me on a BP medication in conjunction with it. Still may need surgery on my foot ultimately and the tubes, or at least my ears drained. But it's healing...of a sort. That's why God gave us brains to learn how to become doctors and fix ailments. The woman with the issue of blood spent all her money on doctors...I kinda feel about like her right now with a $5K medical bill and rising. LOL But in the end, when the doctors couldn't help, Jesus did.
Seek ye,
This is a perfect example of an unfeigned faith, nothing wavering, she was well aware of the provisions of the Covenant that God made with Abraham.

Seek,
My brain ain't a functioning this week - I'm leaving that one alone
Great discussion-
I have enjoyed reading everyone's contributions. I really like how many of you have dissected the topic to make sure no damage was being done to the authority and integrity of the written word.
There are distinctions between God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Each is an individual person. Again and again the bible draws distinctions between them, yet, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit have mutual relations to one another, acting upon one another and applying the pronouns of the second and third persons to one another, hence one God in three persons.
I find the above to give me light to understand the distinction between the living Word and the written one. Without the work of the Holy Spirit in the heart/mind of the person reading it, it's impossible to understand it fully. In like manner, as there are distinctions between the God-head, there are distinctions between the word and the living word. Like the Godhead, there are no contradictions between them, but perfect harmony and oneness.
Hope this helps.
You are always a help, David. Did you get that jeep running?
Yep my brother - up and running, thanks a bunch for not junking it :). I want the 10 commandment stone at OCS.
