Why do so many Christians prefer the here and now?

Why do so many Christians say they want to go to heaven with Jesus but only in their own timing?

Why do they want to wait until this or that event has come or gone to say they are okay with Jesus coming?

Why is life here on earth preferred over eternity with Jesus?

I love this life. This life in Christ is Beautiful, but like Paul, if God would want me home tonight, I would be a more joyful man.

Since God saved me, I have wanted death over life, but since Christ saved me, I can see the beauty of this life. haha
