All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

This is my first post, so bear with me.  I have been in the dark, so to speak, for over 20 years, and it took my girlfriend/future mother of my children, cutting contact for 6 months, to start me back on the right path, but now I have no idea where to go.  I live in a small town, pretty much politically run churches(the one I used to go to, railroaded our preacher, because he had back trouble.)  Anyway, after all I've been through, I pretty much avoid all the hastle of public religion, and just worship alone, just me and the Man upstairs.  I'm posting today because I am just now getting back into religion, and I am really unsure where to start.  I dont even have a bible over here, I left it when I moved out of my parents place, and I dont really want them knowing I have discovered God, just yet.  The rest of my family is kind of what turned me off of religion in the first place.  So(stupid question,) other than online sources, how can I get closer to God(fellowship, mission work, etc...) without actually getting sucked in to the collective?

I am sure of my relationship with God, he is my father,. Just like you, you are his beloved Son. His love for us is unconditional. I do not associate myself with any other Church.. I. Pray day and night everyday, I have committed time to talk with him and I am taking it from there. I have been praying for as long as I can remember. I am not able to committe to any church. I believe he will guide me to a church where I will be able to fellowship.

I know you will get there also, it is a process, just continue asking him to guide you, get yourself a bible, read it and pick some beautiful verses that will confirm his love and mercy to you. I will help you go through, since I am also at the beginning of this beautiful journey of enjoying life in his presence. God bless you.

Hippyman,

You are in the perfect position to get to know God. You are able, at any time, to take up a conversation with Him. There is nothing to disturb you! No phones, TV, friends dropping by to interrupt your conversation with Him. Why don't you start there?

David, a man after God's own heart, was in that position as a sheepherder. That is how he got to know God. If you seek God with all your heart, you will find Him. If you ask, He will talk to you.

Blessings to you as you seek God with all of your heart.....

I started thinking about what you said, my having nothing to disturb me and all, and it got me inspired.  About a week and a half ago, I got inspiration, almost out of nowhere.  I am now working to turn my yard into a backyard wildlife habitat, that way, I can commune with Him through my animal friends.

Hippyman,

There are four things that I recommend for us to be involved in regularly. These four help to strengthen us when things are going well and help us overcome when things are difficult or God feels far away. These four are 1) Read the Word 2) Prayer 3) Positive Christian Fellowship 4) An Accountability Partner or Group.

Before I give a brief comment about the four items I must ask do you know Jesus as your Savior or are you seeking Him now? Have you asked Him to forgive you of your sins and to come into your heart as Lord and Savior? If not, this is the first goal of your journey. If He is not your Savior at this time the affect of these four items will be different than after He is your Savior … all good, but the affect depends on which side of the cross you now stand … saved or seeking.

1) The Word (even online since you do not have a Bible): I encourage you to focus in on 1 John and then the Gospel of John or Luke.
2) Prayer: We need to be in prayer seeking the Lord's presence and comfort, while crying out to Him. Remember that part of prayer is silently sitting at His feet listening for what He wants to say or reveal to you, often in response to what you have just read in His Word. It is not all about talking, but communicating.
3) Positive Christian Fellowship: We are referred to as sheep for a reason in the Bible. We need each other. There are no Lone Ranger Christians, though we may need a season of solitude, that season must eventually pass. When we feel beat up and down our natural response is to run and hide, which is often the worst possible choice at that very time. We need the love, comfort and fellowship of fellow believers that are traveling the same path we are in life. Do not stop at one church if it is not right for you. Seek until you find the peace and comfort of the Holy Spirit come over you in the midst of that group.
4) Accountability: We need people close to us that we can share with. These people have to be people that we can trust and open up to. They are not "Yes" people, but ones that will ask the difficult questions and loving challenge us when we are wrong and encourage us when we have victories. One must seek God's guidance as to who one might choose as an accountability partner. One must choose wisely.

A resource that might help is a set of messages that I believe speak to where you currently are. They can be found at this link http://www.newlifecommunitychapel.org/index.php?p=1_53_2012 . Go to the first in the series “Meet the Author” and work your way forward. They are about 30 minutes each and I believe they will be used of God to help you.

Hope this helps.

Lord Bless,

Good word LT.

Hippyman,

http://www.biblos.com/  is an excellent source for bible commentaries and different bible versions.

First things first - as LT has already pointed out, we must first be born again, which means we have repented of our sins and have trusted Jesus to be our Lord and Savior.

What kind of music do you like Hippy?

I'm pretty eclectic, when it comes to music, I like just about anything, except hip hop.  I just like something you can actually listen to.

im not hippy, dacid, but if your going to post music i like blue grass. =D

If my son was going to seek out "religion" as u call it... i would be so happy. Especially happy id the religion was seeking the Lotd.

LT, I clicked on ur site and listened to " Its not aboyt yu" I think thats what it was xalled. I had some questiobs byt now forgot. I need to get papaer.  I do remember one. U said something like .. dont wait for jesud to come to u but dor his people to go to him.  please forhive me for my dumbess but ,,, i really dont understand the difference. u gave an example wit the man saying something lije hey God over here ...... I need help too on these things . When i try talking to God im not sure if im expecting Hi to come to me or if I am going to Him. How do i go to God,  Thankl you doe any reply.

The illustration was showing the difference between someone walking in alignment with God, following God, and one who decides to go do their own thing and expect God to bless them while doing their own thing, outside of God's will. He will let us play over there for a while, but eventually He will draw us back to where He wants us to be. Keep in mind that walking with God has eternity in focus. Life is not all about the here and now. God will finish what He has started.

Lord Bless,

LT

ty lt, i think i knew that was what u were talking about while i was listening. i forget quickly. I like listening , its like sitting in yalls church. I wish i could have heard them when they were telling about how God blessed them. Sometimes its like you are turning from your mic. I wish you had the kind that you could walk with or maybe one that they have for on your head. You may already. My speaker on my laptop isnt great. Maybe the congregation could take up collection. sorry lt i dont mean to sound complainy. i just soooo enjoy listening.

Blessings to you. I move around a lot and we are currently using a protable recording device that is stationary during the service. Someday I hope we will upgrade :-)

I listened and thought it was a very good message. It brought back good memories of the church I attended in childhood.
