Perception (from the Latin perceptio, percipio) is the process of attaining awareness or understanding of the environment by organizing and interpreting sensory information.
Do we put enough emphasis on or take enough care with perception? Before we speak or write, do we think of how others may perceive what we say? Do we take into consideration that what is good for us my not be good for someone else, and may even be detrimental to a certain state of mind? Is our intent always in the right place or driven by the right motives?
On the other hand, is there too much emphasis on perception? Do we choose what we perceive and how we perceive it? Do we read too much into some things and not enough into others? Do we assume attitude where there is none or don't take things seriously enough when we should?
Will I be perceived to be attempting to help here or to condemn?
Your thoughts?

I think the answer to all your questions is yes depending on circumstance and indeed, perception.
Our view of the world and how we perceive what is aroud us is based on our experiences. For me, I very rarely care about what people think about me, I take certain things seriously and am able to brush other things off. I am driven to be the best I can be whatever I'm doing not always with the best of intentions but it's who I am.
I agree Bev. we are all equipped. Although I have down days I am not sure I understand depression. One thing I am beginning to understand is anger. I held things inside tried not to offend people by saying nothing when they hurt me or offended me. I kept the peace HaHa What eventually happened was I would come to my wits end and unfortunately blow up. The Lord has shown it is better to let out the hurt the offense while it still can be done rationally. At times I feel like a bit of a whiner but when all is said and done most times I thank the Lord for showing me and I end up making a stronger friendship.
Amandaby what I have read Bev is right you are well equipped!!!
Oh yes I know how I know. That was the worst of it. The Lord's grace and mercy helped me as I focused and learned to reach for and listen to the help.
But it sure wasn't overnight it was learned over time. I can be pretty thick at times.
All a matter of perception. Besides thought you were resting.
Good night all
May the Peace of the Lord be with you
perception can be a very dangerous thing. I think part of the trouble is that we are online in a land of technology. I know that many people will be tired of hearing me saying this... But face to face fellowship is so important. Even talking on the phone is better than just typing words on a screen. I know from my personal experience with this, when I have spoken to people from here on the phone, that person becomes much more 'real'. We need to always remember that all of us on this website ( and all of virtual world) are real people with real problems...real hearts beating... and real struggles. Not everyone is ready for face to face fellowship, and I know that this place is a replacement for 'church and fellowship' for many... That leaves so much room for misunderstanding and misperceptions.
One more thought.. For all of us who belong to Christ.. Regardless of how you are treated by someone...It's our job to respond in love. If love is lacking, then that is between you and God, and it is up to you to make that right. Don't be offended when/if someone mistreats you. As a child of God it is your job to respond with the truth in love.. We need to couple that with behaving Justly, with Mercy and Compassion. Nothing is ever solved by becoming offended or getting your back up... and responding offended (in the flesh) rather than in the Spirit and it misrepresents Christ, and ruins our testimony. Jesus says that when we are born again we are a New Creation... HE says that 'The old has gone, the new has come.' Are we responding in ways that show our 'newness'? Also, taking personal offense gives an open door to satan.. slam that door shut and declare 'No more'. People are never our enemies.. We have only One enemy...that one enemy is God's enemy..we know that is satan, and he is the enemy of our souls. For those of us who say we belong to Christ... Let's stop taking offense. Instead, pray for that person and at every opportunity you can--Love them...as much as these internet relationships will allow.
Blessings, Carla
Dear Carla
I totally agree with you 100% on your comments. I rarely communicate on this site anymore because I have difficulty making a point I'm trying to make. Because of this I type 100 words where some can make the point in 10 or 20. I always go to great lengths to make sure I 've said what I truly meant to say but then I get a response that makes me have to go back and read what I had typed to try to figure out how people came to the conclusion they did from what I typed.
Of course I have that problem when I speak to people in person or on the phone too , but at least I can get some idea of how my words were PERCEIVED by seeing their reaction in body language or voice inflection. For this reason I am much more comfortable speaking with people in person.
It is indeed sad ( but entirely understandable ) that some use this site as a substitute for church and fellowship in a face to face setting.
I have enjoyed this site for many reasons ,one of which is that I can hear from other Christians around the world , literally. But my greatest desire is to get closer to God and others on a face to face basis. Again because of my limited ability to convey my thoughts intelligently ( not to mention briefly).
Any how , God bless you , my friend
Again great discussion Thanks Bev. Have to agree over the internet is not anywhere near in person. I have great difficulty typeing things out and greter difficulty reading them and putting it all together. I very many times percieve things in a wrong manner. Once again have to thank our Lord. Took awhile but He finally taught me to look to Him before I get excited. Still not great at it . Begin my day, and constantly go through the asking Him for understanding. David you are absolutely right charity/love above all else.
