All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Th Bible does not define the meaning of "the image of God"in so many
words. In a sense it's a mystery , yet the key mysteries and secrets of
the Bible maw be unlocked for those whom God calls, He reveals to them His truth. Jesus said, "I thank You, Ather, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and
have revealed them to babes" ( Matthew 11;25. God truth comes by
Revelation from him, not from human wisdom. Yet certain common sense principled do enable us to better understand the Bible. As we
mentioned befor, we can best comprehend biblical passage when we
Consider them in context . Genesis5 mentions likeness and image of God again. As we read the open verses ,we begin to discern their broade meanings. The chapter begins, This is yhe book of the genealogy kf Adam. In the day Gid created man . He made in the
Likeness of God. He created them male and female , and blessed them
And called them Mankind in the day they were created( verses 1-2)
Humanky ,the genealogy of Genesis( extends down through the centuries all the way from Adam to Noah and his three sons-more tan
1,600 years. But actually begins with the creator himself, Jn Like's genealogy of Christ,s hitch stretched back to the beginning of mankind
He refers to Adam as " the son of God " ( Luke3;38 ) As Paul later
explained " we are the off spring of Gid" ( Act-17;29) We came forth from God , not in the same way that the land animals and sea creatures
We're created. They were not made in the image of God.We, human
Beings we're, In making this point clear, God emphasized the alternate
term " likeness" But what does that mean? This is perhaps the most
principle governing biblical studies and easily the most abused. And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begotten a son in his own
Likeness after his image, and named him Seth(Genesis5:3 In context
With verses - and 2, what conclusion may we draw from the statement
In verse3 ? I is reasonable to deduce that, although Gid is spirt rather tan flesh ( John4;24) man bears considerable resemblance to His Maker
Just as Adam's son resembled him.

Elaine,

In my opinion, not only do we look visually like God looks.....head, two arms, two legs, torso....but we have 3 parts...spirit, soul, body...just as HE is triune, being the Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Our spirit is made perfect at salvation...our body will wear out...our soul needs renewal through our lives through the work which the Holy Spirit helps us with which is renewing our thinking to God's thinking and not remaining with thoughts and attitudes of an unsaved person. Most everything in the Bible can be put into the working of one of our three parts...actually, most can be assigned to  spirit and soul.

Blessings....

Rita

So God created man in his own image , in the image of God ,He created him, male and female,He created them ( Genesis1:27
The purpose of human life is indelibly etched into the first chapter of the first book of the Bible, Then God said, Let us make
Man on Our image , according to Our likeness(Genesis 1:26God created each species of the plant and animal kingdom
according to its(Own) kind (veres11-12,21,24,25. We are not talking about , spirit, soul, and ,body, I am asking Whete in the bible does it define the meaning of " The image of God ) I respect your answer , But Jesus said "Jesus said, I Thank You
father , Lord of Heaven and Earth , that you have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them
to babes, Although God s Spirit rather then flesh ( John 4:24) man bears considerable resemblance to his Maker , just
as Adam's son resembled him. I believe tat was my closing.
Rita, your opinion is well respected, and all that you say is true , and I thank you for that !but the bible does not define the
Image of God it states we ate born in the image and likeness of God, which we all know tat to be true, I am not speaking
Of head ,arms, legs, or torso ,I am speaking if the image, maybe I am explaining myself wrong ,if do Ibam sorry, mabe I should have frazed it differently.

I really agreed with the opinion of sister Rita

As has been shared,

Gen 1:27 So God created humans in his image. In the image of God he created them. He created them male and female.

Isa 48:13 It was my hand that laid the foundations of the earth, my right hand that spread out the heavens above. When I call out the stars, they all appear in order."

Heb 1:10 He also says to the Son, "In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundation of the earth and made the heavens with your hands.

But also the Word tells us

Eph 4:24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God--truly righteous and holy.

Col 3:10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like Him.

So I think He has a form as we do, yet Spirit also.  Since God is Light, Matt 17:2 As the men watched, Jesus' appearance was transformed so that his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as light.

God is Love and we are unable at this point to see Love, not acts of Love, but pure Love itself.  As in Eph and Col and so many more.  The image of God is beyond our ability to see or comprehend.  However, as we put on our new nature that of Righteousness and Holy, we begin to take on our new image, not only our spirit man but also our flesh shines.

2Cor 3:18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord--who is the Spirit--makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

1John 3:2 Dear friends, we are already God's children, but He has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like Him, for we will see him as He really is.

Our actions reflect our appearance, the more we act like Jesus, the more we will look like Him, the Spirit, and the Father

I am in full agreement with you Chris the image of God is beyond are ability, and that is just what I was trying to express,
We cannot see love! God is love, What do you mean by that Chris ,does not are love come from God, unless you ate saying
God's love is much stronger than the love we feel, correct me dear brother, if I am saying or understanding it wrong.

Elaine

You understand.  In Heaven there is no time.  Many things we are not able to fully comprehend.  God is Love.  More then actions, we are able to see what He does for us.  He is the Source of Love.  Jesus was obedient to the Father, He showed that by His actions of Love.  Yet, God is so far and away beyond what we can see with our natural eyes.  We are able to see His Love expressed.  But, the image of God is just so Powerful, He can only be seen through spirit not natural scenes.  Sweet Sister you understood me correctly.

Oh how I am in agreement with you, when I read on the image of God I became very confused , I thought as Rita, Head,
Lengs, arms torso, but now having you explane it , you ave cleared my understanding and I tank you and the others
For your kind respect, I just thought the subject was somewhat interesting,Behen I read what is the image of God, I have
Never question the image of God, because we were all born in the image and likeness of God, Than you all my dear frends
