I came across these questions on an interview a woman had with some students. Their answers to these were very good. I am interested in hearing responses to these if any of you would like to participate and share your answers/views.
Christian. It's a word we use so much, we sometimes forget what it means.
What is a Christian, really?
Is a Christian someone who's totally out there with her faith, preaching in front of the school every morning?
Is it someone who sits quietly reading his Bible alone at the cafeteria table?
Is it the faithful youth group member who volunteers for every event and leads three different Bible studies?
What are some of the myths people have about Christians?
What sort of positive things do you hear about Christians?
So what makes a Christian a Christian? Is it lifestyle?
Is it a set of common beliefs? What?
A lot of times, Christians are defined by the stuff we won't do. What are some of the lifestyle choices you've made that show other people you're serious about your faith?
What about those times it's just you and God? What are the signs of a Christian life that only you and God can see?
What are some things that help you keep your faith strong?
What does it mean to live for God, to live a holy life?
Do you think it's possible for us to live holy lives?

About 6ft tall, green eyes, blonde scruffy hair and likes black.....oh wait that's me :P
But seriously, there is nothing obviously visible about a persons appearance that defines them as a Christian. People do notice things about your behaviour and how you come across but nothing physical (unless you're suddenly 6 inches taller or something but that might be because of the heels) It's a combination of things, mostly how we deal with adversity and situations. I don't think there is a Christian "lifestyle", we all do different things
These are really cool questions. I hope you get a lot of replys with their answers.... I look forward to reading them.
When I was a young child , I thought all Christians wore the long down to your ankle dresses, with high necks and long sleeves. When I got a little older I thought if someone was looking at you in disgust ... they must be Christian. When I got grown I thought to be a Christian you had to be born again and still believe that. But now it is even harder to know them apart from the world.
Hi Michelle,
What an interesting subject. Thank you for starting it.
Right off, I have to agree with Janie. It seems to be few and far between when you see someone looking like a Christian.
God says, "Be holy as I am holy." And yes, I think we can live holy lives......it's just not easy in this world. Never has been,
for Paul writing in Galatians 4:19 says, "My children, with whom I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you - (20) but I could wish to be present with you now and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you."(N.A.S.B.)
Romans, Chapter 12 has a lot of guidelines of what we should look like. A few verses: (12) rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer," (14)" Bless those who persecute you; bless and curse not." (18) If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men."
A Christian has overcome the world, and the world hates us anyway.
A Christian says more, by silently living the nine fruit of the Spirit......than by saying anything at all.
A Christian does not grumble, or complain about all the problems going on around us.
Jesus says in John 13:35, " By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."(Emphasis added).
There's a lot more, Michelle.......but I'll leave some for others.
Grace and Peace.
A lot of times, Christians are defined by the stuff we won't do.
We even can define ourselves by what we don't do. IE: A neighbor is down on his luck and constantly asking me to take him out to his brothers as he has no transportation and we're way out in the country. He comes to borrow my phone all the time. I don't mind the phone, it doesn't cost me. I have a lease car however, and putting on excess mileage will cost me. But I did ask him to wait until we had dinner the other night and took him out. However, I'm coming home from VBS at 9:20 last night and he's walking home. I offered him a ride. He begged me to take him to his brothers. It is nearly an hour past my son's bedtime and I simply told him I couldn't do it that late. Ultimately he asked what time I leave in the morning and said he may ride out with me then. Well as I went by this morning, he wasn't outside, so I honked, then I went and knocked. He was still sleeping and said he'll pass, it's just too early.
Now last night I felt some guilt because I want to help out and should be willing to, and yet also knew that logistically, it would create problems for my son not getting enough sleep. After this morning, I realized there was no need to feel guilt. This guy wanted my help on his terms. And he may likely be one that will point to me as a Christian and claim I wouldn't help him when he was in need. People love to point fingers.
