1Jn 1:9 NIV84 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
But what if I vow to God that I will be paying my tithe , but I miss it and then I ask God to forgive me and then not paying the tithes ???
Did you really confess (repent) if you continue to break a vow? 1 John 1:9 is not a get out of jail free card, where if we just say "oops, sorry" and then do it again and say "oops, sorry" and do it again all is good. Confess carries with it the idea of conviction and repenting, thus agreeing with God and rejecting our sin. This does not mean we will never fail, for this verse was written for when we do fail.
Thus, do you believe the Word when is says "... he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins ..."? John is speaking to Christians, so this is not about getting saved, but relates to us once we are saved.
Yeah that's True but the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 5:4-6 that " When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow. It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay. Let not your mouth lead you into sin, and do not say before the messenger that it was a mistake. Why should God be angry at your voice and destroy the work of your hands?
Also Deuteronomy 23:21-23 states that “If you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay fulfilling it, for the Lord your God will surely require it of you, and you will be guilty of sin. But if you refrain from vowing, you will not be guilty of sin. You shall be careful to do what has passed your lips, for you have voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God what you have promised with your mouth " .
so if we make a vow we are committed to it life long ???
I don't know just wondering ??
It would depend on the vow you made.
1) We must ask was it a lifelong vow or was it attached to something short term? We also must ask what was the purpose of the vow and what were the conditions of the vow?
2) What is the reason for breaking the vow?
God takes vows seriously and breaking one is a sin, but there is always forgiveness for sin in Christ. Now, back to what said earlier. We are not to sin on purpose expecting to use 1 John 1:9 as an easy escapism from consequences for our sin. When we sin there should be conviction and repentance where we agree with God that our sin is grievous in His sight, and trust in the blood of Jesus to cleanse off the dirt. This cleansing is not in order to be saved again, but to be restored to a place where God can use us.
So, if you have made a vow ... keep it. If you fail ... repent, trusting God to restore you. If a person sins on purpose and then expects to play the get out of jail free card (1 John 1:9) he is only playing games with God ... and that is a dangerous place to be short term and especially long term.
Hope this helps.
wow that's great thanks a lot LT for answering this question , God Bless You :)
