The Lord Jesus Christ has many names and titles and each one could be used as fits the context. People refer to him as the Son of God because that is his highest biblical title. For example, one of Barak Obama's titles, is the Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. armed forces, but his higher title is President of the United States of America.
He has the distinction of being the only son...of God.

Because of what he did on our behalf... we can become sons of God, by being grafted into the family of God, thru faith in the risen savior...Jesus Christ... the son.

There have been many prophets over the years....and many holy men...and many who were chosen... but, only one Son.
If ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also: from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him." (John 14:7)
In Matthew 16, Jesus nails down all the rumors and whisperings that were going about concerning Him. He asked His disciples who they think He is. They start out by telling Him all the names that others have given to Him, but eventually Peter is brave enough to speak truth. "And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." (Matthew 16:16) This would have been a perfect moment for Jesus to set the record straight if He had been only a man. Instead, He confirmed what Peter had said, "And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jonah: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 16:17 )
And I absolutely love and agree with Greg's description of Jesus highest title, awesome anointed response :) Thanks Greg for blessing me too.
Rayab,

I believe you have misunderstood the purpose of God sending His Son and in so doing will miss the grace and love of God. The Son came to a fallen world to redeem man. We had the great need and God sent His Son, who is God in the flesh, to meet that need.

The Bible has much to say on this topic, but I will include only a couple of verses. If you wish to discuss the love and forgiveness found through Jesus I would be happy to share the gospel with you.

RO 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

JN 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
JN 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
JN 3:18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
JN 3:19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

You are correct, God does NOT "need" a son. Yes, God is perfect and above all needs. We believe the Bible is God's inspired and authoritative word. The Bible reveals that The Father is God, that Jesus Christ is God, and that the Holy Spirit is God. Three persons, ONE GOD. We call this the Trinity and there is no adequate way to explain it and nothing to which one can compare to God. We know it because that is what the Bible says, and not from human intellect or reasoning.

The Son of God has existed from all eternity. He was not "born" or "created" in the natural way. In other words, God did not have sex with Mary and produce Jesus Christ. That is a perversion of what the Bible teaches.
Hi Rayab,

Jesus actually refers to Himself as the 'Son of Man' more than the 'Son of God' although He is fully both. He is 'Son of God'--fully Divine, and 'Son of Man' fully human.

The history of the bible teaches us about the importance of offering sacrifices for sin in the world. In the Old Testament, that's what was done under the law of the old covenant. The New Covenant has ushered in God's Grace, and Jesus is the sacrifice for our sin. He is Perfect, without sin...but he became sin for us. We are saved by faith in Him.
If you want to know God in a personal relationship, take a long hard look at Jesus. You will learn of God's mind, heart and will. God gave Him to us to show us these things because....He Loves us. He created us, and desires a personal relationship with us.. WOW! The God of the cosmos...and of all Creation desires to have a relationship with you! That's Good news, wouldn't you say? Read Hebrews chapter 1.

Here are some other names for Jesus:

Friend
Redeemer
Savior
Shepherd
Almighty
I AM
Lion Tamer
Bondage Breaker
Promise Keeper
the Resurrection and the Life
The ONLY way to the Father, the Truth and the Life
the Light of the World
KING of kings (God's choice)
LORD of lords
Creator....whew! the list goes on....My Jesus is everything!

Jesus is the Creator of the Universe..like Greg explained the Trinity to you...One God.. made up of 3 persons. Since He is the Creator, He can and does create a new heart in each of His children once we are 'born again' and develop, over our lifetimes, a close intimate personal relationship with Him! All you need is a small glimpse of an indescribable God!

The demons have no trouble admitting He is the 'Son of God', they know of his deity...but they will not acknowledge Him as the 'Son of Man', they don't understand his humanness.

"We look at the cross and see "I Love you" written in red.~Anne Graham Lotz

I pray that you will see Him today..just one small glimpse is all you need! Blessings, Carla
Dear Rayab,

What is it that you are giving up on? It is good that you are asking questions, and I encourage you to continue asking. It is refreshing that someone would be so open to bring forth their questions as you are.

Blessings, Carla
Rayab :)
I believe this verse explained who Jesus is and perfectly, be blessed.

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
