Can somebody force somebody else to do something against their will?

I was watching the news and I found it interesting that many "key" words were being used during the broadcast regarding same sex marriages. Now I know that this is not directly answering the topic question, but the words they were using, such as America is "ready" to receive same sex marriages, American's peoples heart's are now "open" to same sex marriages, people "understand now" that it is wrong to "discriminate" against same sex people, etc., the list goes on and on.
How did America become "ready" and what facilitated this readiness with "open hearts and minds", what brought about this "understanding"?
These are very important questions to ask when addressing the article and question above. I find it very disturbing in radio, t.v., even talking with fellow co-workers and yes, even church members the comments that are made regarding same sex relationships...it's almost like I'm listening to a recording over and over and over again, they are repeating what they've learned through the media. I'd liken it to brainwashing, others might resist that strong term, but I do believe that when someone keeps telling you through every avenue, meaning...songs, t.v. programming [programming, I find that an ironic term...as that is exactly what is happening]. I believe that we must get back to what God says and not what man says. I just recently listened to a sermon and the Pastor opened up his sermon with "Are you being persecuted for your faith?" If we aren't, then why aren't we? Because we all know we will be, right?
A really good book to read is called the Marketing of Evil, it is very eye opening and filled with a lot of factual information.
"Many people are familiar with the phrase "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone". These words are often found posted in business establishments such as restaurants, retail stores, cinemas, and other places. While businesses have some degree of control over who they provide services and products for, they must still abide by federal, state, and local laws when denying service to a customer."http://www.legalmatch.com/law-library/article/when-can-a-business-r...
Hi Carla,
I saw this posted on face book and meant to look at the video later on. Thank you for posting it here.
Wow! This is a very sad! I do understand and appreciate this couples beliefs and stand. They do have the right to decide.
What bothers me is that it is acceptable for anyone from a different religion, background, and lifestyle (such as homosexuality) to hold the beliefs they do and be allowed to sue someone who speaks against them, saying their rights have been violated. Yet, when a Christian states their beliefs, it is wrong. Mind you, personally, I would have "baked the cake for them" and prayed the whole time as well as shown them the love of Christ.
I believe that every human on the face of this earth, is entitled to their beliefs and should be able to express them without fear of reprisal. I wish this were true for all of humanity.
Most here if not all know my testimony...if not, please feel to go to my page and read it.
Carla, as you well know, the topic of homosexuality and how the homosexual community is very near to my heart. This is why I would "bake the cake" for them with the Spirit of Godly love for them. I love what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 9:22
"To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some." (NIV)
I do believe we are to follow his example with one exception, we are not to sin ourselves. On a very personal note, it breaks my heart that some Christians feel they somehow have the right to judge and condemn the sins of others, yet the sins they themselves commit, are somehow acceptable in the eyes of God. Excuse me just a minute here!!! All sin is nasty in the eyes of God!
The Word of God tells us...
"9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-11, NIV)
We must never forget that we are all sinners and that without Jesus' atoning blood we would be lost. Jesus did not die for the "good" people. He died for ALL HUMANITY.
My heart is breaking!
Carla,
I just read my greeting to you..."I Carla" Sheesh! Really, Mischelle? I know you know what I meant to say, but the 'perfectionist' in me, had to say something about it. LOL
Love ya sweets :~)
Isn't that crazy how some of us are like that? If I'm chatting with someone & have a typo, I know that they knew what I meant but I have to correct myself. I guess I do it to show I'm not stupid & realize my error. lol
Then some of us have the "power" to fix it later. Check and see if I got it right for you :-)
ROFLOL
Thanks LT. Lovin' the "power" you have there brother... :~)
I have thought about this situation a gazillion times. I admire these people for standing up for their religious beliefs. When we enter into a business, we need to research the legalities of those issues if we're going to turn people down. I have looked it up on several sites trying to figure out the legalities here. As far as legally turning someone down, it appears to be the state you live in.
The federal law does not prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, so gays are not a protected group under the federal law. However, about 20 states, including New York and California, have enacted laws that prohibit discrimination in public accommodations based on sexual orientation. In California, you also can’t discriminate based on someone’s unconventional dress. In some states, like Arizona, there’s no state law banning discrimination against gays, but there are local laws in some cities that prohibit sexual orientation discrimination.
So, no matter where you live, you cannot deny service to someone because of his or her race, color, religion, national origin or disability. In some states and cities, you also cannot discriminate against people because of their sexual orientation. If there is no state, federal or local law prohibiting discrimination in public accommodations against a particular group of people, then you can legally refuse to serve that group of people. https://www.legalzoom.com/articles/the-right-to-refuse-service-can-...
Many small business owners have deep religious convictions which not only guide their spiritual lives but also how they run their businesses.
For example, some religious business owners in the bridal industry have stood behind their beliefs that same-sex couples should not be married, and in some cases have refused to do business with gay couples seeking to wed.
But many states' laws prohibit businesses from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation. Still, that hasn't stopped some small business owners from testing that law, The Huffington Post reports. http://blogs.findlaw.com/free_enterprise/2013/06/3-ways-you-can-leg...
The question that I've thought about is what sins do you discriminate against? Where do you draw the line? If you know a man is running around on his wife & wants you to make a cake for his mistress, do you? If you know a man is lazy, doesn't work & doesn't take care of his family. His wife works 2 jobs to get a few morsels on the table. He comes to you for services. Do you serve him? A couple who lives together are looking to get married. They aren't married yet but they live together. Do you bake them a cake because they live in fornication? What about a drug lord? He comes wanting a huge order. This could make you some really big bucks. Do you turn them down? A doctor for the abortion clinic walks in & wants something, do you refuse him? What about a prostitute? A Satanist? A Jehovah's Witness? A Muslim?
So, at what point do you draw the line? Do we discriminate only against certain sins because they are out in the open & in our face? Or do we give them service as a witness to Christ? I thought about maybe baking them a cake & putting a Scripture in it or have a Scripture as your theme of the business. At this point, I'm not sure where I stand on the issue. So, for the moment, my answer is to not open my own business & just fight for the Lord in the privacy of my own home.
