All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I've wondered about this quite often especially with the movie 2012 released a while back.

What exactly will happen in 2012 and what is it's significance?

Wikipidia defines it as: 2012 (MMXII) will be a leap year starting on a Sunday. In the Gregorian calendar, it will be the 2012th year of the Common Era, or of Anno Domini; the 12th year of the 3rd millennium and of the 21st century; and the 3rd of the 2010s decade.

Lost Mayan predictions have noted it as the possbible second coming, yet in Act 1:7 the Lord clearly states,

"He said to them, It is not for you to become acquianted with and know what time brings [the things and events of time and their definite periods] or fixed years and seasons (their critical niche in time), which the Farther has appointed (fixed and reserved) by His own choice and authority and personal power"

On the site http://2012apocalypse.net/, it clearly brings the book of Revelations into play by saying:

The BOOK OF REVELATION and The 2012 Apocalypse.
(8:7) And the first sounded, and there followed hail and fire, mingled
with blood
, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of the earth was burnt up, and the third part of
the trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

Is this the Asteriod 433 Eros, the first discovered Near-Earth asteroid, smashing through our
atmospere? Eros is one of the few NEAs with a maximum
diameter greater than 10 km. It is believed to be larger than
the impactor that created Chicxulub Crater in the Yucatán,
which has been linked to the Apocalypse (extinction) of the
dinosaurs.

On January 31, 2012, Eros is expected to pass Earth, Is this the 2012 Apocalypse??

Objects in an orbit like Eros can exist for only a few hundred million years before the orbit is perturbed by gravitational interactions. Simulations suggest that Eros may evolve into an Earth-crosser with Apocalyptic power.

(8:8)
And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;

(8:9)
And there died the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, even they that had life; and the
third part of the ships was destroyed
.

(8:10)
And the third angel sounded, and there fell from heaven a great star, burning as a torch, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of the waters; And the name of the star is
called Wormwood:
and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters,
because they were made bitter.

Wormwood crashes into the ocean or sea, causing one third of the drinking water to be poisoned. Wormwood may be a Comet, Asteroid, or Arab  Missile that hits NYC as W.W. III explodes across Europe, a War fought for food and
fresh water. The 2012 Apocalypse?

(8:12) And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; that the third part of them should be darkened, and the day should not shine
for the third part of it, and the night in like manner.

A very good description of the aftermath of a comet or asteroid impacting the earth causing the 2012 Apocalypse!

Prophecy of the Popes
The prophecy was attributed to Saint Malachy, the 12th-century bishop of Armagh in Ireland. According to the traditional account, in 1139, Saint Malachy was summoned to Rome by Pope Innocent II. While in Rome, Saint Malachy purportedly experienced
a vision of future popes
, which he recorded as a sequence of cryptic phrases. Systematically recording the
names of 112 Popes into the future
. This manuscript was then deposited in the Roman Archive, and thereafter forgotten
about until its
rediscovery in 1590.

Saint Malachy implies Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger's chosen name would be Benedictine- Benedict XVI, which is the fulfilment
the prophecy of the 111th Pope.

Prophesy dictates that our present Pope, Pope Benedict XVI is our second to last Pope, whose death will signal the 112th, Last, and Final Pope..."Peter The Roman".  The possibilty of this happening in the year 2012 is very real. The date and chosen name of this 112th pope
will signal the 2012 apocalypse.

During the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church, the seat will be occupied by Peter the Roman,
who will feed his sheep in many tribulations;
and when these things are finished, the seven-hilled city will be destroyed,
and the formidable Judge will judge his people.
The End.

According to Roman Catholic tradition, Saint Peter was installed as the first Pope by Jesus Christ. Though the adoption of that name is not canonically barred, it is considered unlikely that any future pope would ever choose the name. Thus, if the name Peter is used, it furthers the accuracy of this prophesy. The Apocalyptic ending of 2012."

Wicus,
Jesus said that NO man knows the day nor the hour, NOT EVEN the Son...

I believe Jesus.

Raj,

Our brother Wicus took his time to prepare this discussion and we should honor that. Besides, this topic is a popular topic and we should be ready to give a biblical opinion about the subject.

1 Peter 3:15

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

Wicus is a born again child of God, hence those around him that know he is a believer may approach him with questions about this popular topic and our brother wants to be prepare with answers for his own inquiring mind and maybe in order to give an answer to those that ask as well.

Your comment has the potential to cause others to stay away from creating valid discussions for the fear of being rejected or hurt. We are not into hurting each other here and we welcome sincere questions. In the future please refrain from such comments.

Raj,

I actually agree with your original message, that this topic belongs in the Discovery or National Geographic channels, but my response to your message was made to let everyone know that a topic may belong in the Nasa channel or the tabloids, but since the word touches on everything pertaining to life and godliness, we are welcome to start healthy discussion that touch on this type of topics. :)

I am also a big fan of the two TV channels you mentioned and they do have some programs where they dip into the fantasy realm.

After reading this discussion, i was going to surgest we forget about the 2012 film idea's on the Apocalypse and worry more about what Buzz & woody are going to do since they made it out of that nursery !!
But i take on board David's comments and do appreciate there are many people from all walks of life that now and again worry about the end of the world and the future.

But if i remember reading my bible scriptures, christians are to put their faith in Jesus in all walks of life and bring all lifes problems to Jesus. We should i feel as christians work to show our christian love for our fellow man, and go through life learning from the word of God and inspiring others to see the love of Jesus in our lives.

If the world ends, then it ends, it should not be a worry, last wednesday my girl friend was to attend her school friends wedding, unforunately she could not make it as she was heading to England, on the Friday 2 days after her wedding the lady died. My girlfriend found out yesterday on her return and is in deep shock as to how life can suddenly be taken, and so it will be when the world ends, one day we will be here the next not.

I would rather go through life, helping my fellow man, listening to God as he leads me, and showing a christian love to my community than worry about what i have no control over.

May God bless your day

Robert
God wants us to be prepared for what is to occur in the last days but He wants us to live our lives with no restrictions as in worrying about what will happen tomorrow.

I do think it's interesting that the Mayans know about things we have been taught through God's Word, even though they didn't have it. Indeed, God has written that knowledge on their hearts.

God has given us much information of the things that will happen before Jesus returns but He doesn't want us to dwell on them. If He had wanted to take the mystery out of it He could have, but He left much hidden. Understandably so as He is giving us free will to accept or reject Him. He doesn't want to have us accepting him because time is running out. (Even though time is, indeed, running out.) He wants us to come to him freely, because we have heard the call and believed, not because our not choosing Him by Jan 1, 2012 will cause us to lose the opportunity to accept him. Putting a deadline on our acceptance.

He does want us to know His Son is returning and we are to be ever mindful of that. He has given us an idea of the things that will occur and what the signs will be. He wants us to recognize those signs as they appear. I don't think there is a Christian alive that doesn't know we're in the last days. He wants us to focus on him and do the thing that we are appointed to do....share the Gospel with all who will listen.

Blessings to you Wicus,
Rita
1 Corinthians 1:20
Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

Isaiah 44:25 who foils the signs of false prophets and makes fools of diviners, who overthrows the learning of the wise and turns it into nonsense,

Job 5:12 He thwarts the plans of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success.

James 3:17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

In 1 Corinthians 3:18-23 Paul challenges his Corinthian brothers and sisters in Christ about their love of human wisdom. Paul contrasts the wisdom of this world in verses 18-20 with the wisdom of God in verses 21-23. What these Corinthian Christians have done in pretending to be wise by the standards of the world is show themselves to be foolish in the eyes of God. Paul says, "You must stop exalting men, put an end to divisions, deny any wisdom that you think you have, and instead embrace God's wisdom and the tremendous riches and blessings and resources that God gives." Verses 18-20:

Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become foolish that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, "He is the one who catches the wise in their craftiness"; and again, "The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are useless."

Bro Wicus,

We live in a world plague with false doctrines, false teachers and prophets, both in the secular realm as well as in the Christian world. So many capitalize and make millions creating and mixing truth with fiction and foolishness. We must examine these things and have an answer for those who ask.

You quoted:

Acts 1:7 (New International Version)

7He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.

Amen my brother. When we encounter such theories/lies as the ones being propagated about 2012, we discard the wisdom of this age as foolishness and stand in the Solid Foundation and Corner Stone of Christ. The word says that God will pass judgment over the earth and he will give us a new earth and a new heaven. I am in agreement with the comments you have receive so far. Most Christians can sense we are very close to the end, to the tribulation period and it is disturbing how Satan does give some twisted and inaccurate insight about matters pertaining to the end times, so his followers (whether they follow him boldly or without even knowing they are serving him) can recruit more followers (believers) of this type of false prophecies. Satan does not give truth, but is always up to twisting it.

I did enjoy the movie though. hahaha
Not to worry! When 2012 gets here, either Bruce Willis or Leeloo of the race of Monascheiwans are all ready to save the earth. Haven't you seen the movie 'Armageddon' and 'The Fifth Element'?

Even so, come Lord Jesus.
I cannot wait until December 24, 2011 (2012) comes and goes unevenfully as 1984, 1999 and so many other predicted dates.
Raj, I am not sure, but I am guessing that this is a result of mixing Biblical and Mayan prophecy. 2012 is the end of the Mayan calender/ the end of time, so 'some' people are saying that this is the end of the world, hence Jesus will return.
I am actually hoping he will return before that......but I do not believe 2012 has any significance. 'We' should 'be ready' Now, in 2010, 2011, 2012,13,14, 15 etc patiently awaiting the Lord.
David and Edward, I am pleased to see this conversation including your thoughts on prophecy. I am currently doing a group study based Kenneth Boles commentary on Ephesians. Boles makes a statement that Ephesians 4:11 implies: Prophets....."were foundational, not a permanent office for every generation. The sufficiency of scripture makes prophets unnecessary today".
I have great issue with this statement. I believe that even in 'small matters' we have prophets in the church, and that 'prophecy' did not stop with those who have 'penned' what is included in the Canon.
If God speaks to us and directs us in certain issues, (whether great issues of apocaliptic nature, or small inner matters of running a specific church) should we not 'speak' what God tells us to speak? If we 'speak what God tells us'.....is this not prophecy?
I dread hearing it being said that there is no need for 'prophets'.....it seems to imply that there is no need for God to speak to us in the present age, that God has become silent. In my own personal experience, if God did not speak to me, I would be totally lost. If God did not 'speak to me'...then from where would 'my discernment' come? I would be at the mercy of blindly following the 'opinions' of 'men'.
Excellent post Rob,

It really deserves its own discussion because what you have brought up here is an interesting topic. I would ask the following question, but before the question let me go on record stating that I believe that the gifts of the Spirit are alive and well in the church today. So I believe that prophecy is alive and well.

Question :

Are today prophets the same as the Old Testament prophets of which John the Baptist was the last one of?
(Quote) Are today prophets the same as the Old Testament prophets of which John the Baptist was the last one of?

Not yet.

I think that there are 'so many' prophets in the time we live in, that our heads are spinning. I believe that God will send at least one 'specific' 'prophet' who will be clearly hear above the 'din'. .....possibly the angels who pour out the 'vials'.....or something similar in prophecy.
But I would like to say that this is all speculation on my part. I do not have enough mental gigabites to understand how all the parts of the bible, the history, prophecy and parables all interweave, overlap and connect and reconnect. I keep seeing 'peices'....then I see how another peice is connected, but that peice is also connected to something else which is connected all the way back to Genesis, and then Genesis jumps to John...which hints at a connection to Daniel, etc etc.....and by that time I have forgotten what I was thinking about in the first place.
hahaha Yeah - the beauty of the word. Deep enough for us to swim in it for many life times and the Gospel simple enough for a six year old to get it.

Blessings Rob.
