All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

John 8:31-32 (New International Version)

31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Jesus said, "IF you hold to my teaching"

What teaching is He talking about?

How do we hold to His teaching?

What is the truth that He's talking about?

Is He here talking about salvation, or some extra blessing?

Thanks,

Jenny

His whole teaching Jenny.  Love your neighbor, love God with all your heart, seek to do good, give generously, be humble, believe in Him, etc.  We read His word more and more and it becomes more and more a part of us and we hold to it more and more, as we become disciples and become more free by that truth.

Hi Jenny,

Seek Ye First has pretty well summed up real good answers to your questions.

Here are some Scriptures to back her up:

Matthew22: 36-40, "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law? (37) And He said to him," You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. (38) This is the great and foremost commandment. (39) The second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (40) On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets."

Jenny, the Jews believed (and still do) that they had to believe in obeying the "letter of the Law", all 600+ points, which is impossible for a human being to be that good.

Jesus preached and taught that if a person followed the "spirit of the Law"(Love), that person would automatically be doing what is right.

Check Galatians 5:13-14," For you were called to freedom brethren, only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh (sins of the world),  but through love serve one another. (14)  For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

Jesus' truth is: When we are under grace ( His teaching of love), we are free from the impossible bondage of trying to be good enough to get to heaven by obeying the complete Law.

Your last question is answered with John 3:16...........

Grace and Peace  Jenny.

thanks for your reply!
