Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed. Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said, “So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ” And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world. For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “On the seventh day God rested from all his works.” And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my rest.” Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience, God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.

I get what you are saying Eric. What I'm saying is that many people will use that as a copout...In other words, say ah well I messed up again, but God won't use that against me. There is definately an effort on our part AND staying in the vine so to speak. What happened to the verse, "With God all things are possible?" With God we are overcomers, with God we can have freedom, with God we can lead a life holy and we can glorify God in all our endeavors, but so many times we lack the effort. God doesn't force us to righteousness and holy living, we work WITH God, not without Him. If we truly have faith in Him and are yielding, submitting our lives to Him in every little or big thing in our lives, we will have victory. God says it, I believe it!
You are right, all the law comes down to those two things, Love God with all of your heart and love our fellow man as we wished to be loved. I'm going to speak for myself, but I've never had a problem looking out for myself or loving myself...have you? That's how we should love one another. We SHOULD depend on Him with every single breath. Count the cost Jesus said. When Jesus said, "Go and sin no more." Was Jesus setting the Christian up for failure?
I believe that many Christians underestimate the power of God. Their failing is that they think that it's all upon them....but the Christian that relies upon faith in God is in a far superior place than those of us who only rely upon Him from time to time.
Eric, I would like to ask you a question, If sin will send a person to hell, which one will it be, in light of Ro.14:14-23.
Did not He say that He not only died for our sins, but for the sin of the whole world. So you could say to anyone, that their sins are forgiven, it is just that they don't know it, and have not accepted the free gift of salvation that God has provided for them. It is just a matter of believing and accepting what He has purchased for us. There is nothing that you or anyone can do to EARN, or WARRENT it. Though we sin, He is not imputing those sins against us. Ro.4.
God has given to us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him. Knowledge (EPIGNOSIS) full discernment
If sin will send anyone to hell then which will it be in light of Romans 14:14-23?
Jesus died for the sin of the whole world, but unfortunately few will receive it. Believing...is insufficient, for even the demons believe and tremble...correct?
Perfect....Eric. Thank You!
I also disagree that God loves us just the way we are....because there are sinners and there are righteous people. The Bible makes two distinctions, not three, not four, but two....the unrighteous and the righteous. I would like to discuss further into your statement, "God loves us just the way we are", I haven't really found that in the Bible.
JB's question: Do you think God will honor you more, or answer your prayers more readily, by setting aside a certain day to worship Him over another?
"But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear." (Isaiah 59:2)
"And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight". (1 John 3:22)
I'll be honest, I'm not buying your universalism kind of salvation JB. I've hesitated and held myself back, but for the love of God, I cannot be silent. This easy believism is just what America has going on....I feel like I'm going to a Joel Olsteen Church or something. There is no real regard for God and His Word or commands or the walk He's asked us to walk. I'm tired of milquetoast christianity, very tired of it, while people all over the world are literally dying for their faith....I wonder....how many of us would still be Christians if we might be dying for it? I'll probably get thrown off of here for saying all these things, but I'm just sick to death of the PC talk, i.e. it's legalism to follow the LORD's commands, or believe He is the LORD of my life. You can't separate the two....you make Jesus your Savior and your LORD or He is neither.
I'm sorry, but I'm just so saddened at our culture and the dumbdowned atmosphere, even of professing Christians who really aren't....I meet them every single day and it's like saying I'm a yoga teacher who does devout new age meditation. It crushes my heart every day and the deliberate disgusting comments about our Lord and Savior...So sorry, maybe I'm just in a bad frame of mind...or not.
I will follow the LORD, even at the insistance that what I'm doing is not of our culture.
What is this? I'll be honest, I'm not buying your universalism kind of salvation JB. Just take God at His Word Watchman, He is not giving us a false hope or arousing a disappointing expectation. He is laying out the laws of the new creation.
I am so sorry I have offended you, It was not my intentions at all. But I have been studying very extensively the new creation, and I am finding out that “though we seem to say we believe the bible, and that it is God’s Holy Word” but obviously some seem to think that God is tantalizing us, or giving us a hyperbole, which I do not believe at all. God’s Word is true, I read it as a fact, but seems that a lot of people would much rather live under the law, than by Grace through faith. When He says that if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. What in your opinion is a NEW CREATURE, or a New Creation? Could it be that when we are born again, everything changes? Not in the flesh, but in the spirit realm? Our spirits are the only thing that gets changed, or born again, the body, “flesh” stays the same. He talks about the inner man, in Eph.3:16, and 2Cor.4:16. So according to these scriptures, we have an outer man, and an inner man. The one is eternal, the other is temporal.
I am not “at this time” going to get too deep into the new creature, Man with God in him. We are the temple of God, but we act as though we belong to a sorority of some sort. Most can’t seem to understand who we are, or the authority we have in Christ. Christ, BTW is not the last name of Jesus, Christ is an epithet of Jesus, it was Jesus the Christ. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, lives in us, and if this be true, “which I believe” it is, then shouldn’t we be acting like Jesus? He says “the works that I do shall ye do also, and greater works than these shall ye do, because I go to My Father.” Jo.14:12.
So Watchman and any others that may think I have a dim view of Christianity, This is what I try to practice every day of my life. God is Love, and I long to be just like Him, in my spirit. I quote this pretty regularly out of 1Cor.13, AMP In fact I make it an affirmation, as I do with several other scriptures, if He said it about me, then I can say it about myself, wouldn’t you agree?
God is Love
And because I walk in love, and love lives in me,
#1. I endure long
#2. I am patient, and kind
#3. I am never envious, nor do I boil over with jealously
#4. I am never boastful, or vain glorious
#5. I never display myself haughtily
#6. I am not conceited, arrogant, or inflated with pride.
#7. I am never rude, or unmannerly
#8. I never act un-becomingly
#9. I never insist on my own rights, or my own ways.
#10. I am not self-seeking
#11. I am never touchy, fretful, or resentful
#12. I take no account of an evil done to me
#13. I pay no attention to a suffered wrong
#14. I do not rejoice at injustice nor unrighteousness
#15. But I do rejoice when right and truth prevail
#16. I bear-up under anything, and everything that comes
#17. I am ever ready to believe the best of everyone
#18. My hopes are fadeless under all circumstances
#19 I endure everything without weakening
#20 For the love in me, never fails, never fades out, becomes obsolete or comes to an end.
And this is why, there is nothing anyone can say to, or about me that will make me mad, or love you or anyone else any less. Thank God He has given to me this ability to see through these things, and see the vanity in being offended about anything. We will all stand before the throne of God and give an account of our lives. AMEN?
God’s Word is true, I read it as a fact, but seems that a lot of people would much rather live under the law, than by Grace through faith. When He says that if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.
JB - You said God's Word is true, so what don't you believe about those who follow Christ Jesus commands are those who love Him? That is written numerous times throughout the New Testament.....?
The greater nature of Sabbath is to be concious of God's finnished work , His day of rest and to make all of our days , all times , all things Holy.
Where did you hear this?
