All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I'm currently in the proses of reading the book of Matthew, and came upon Matt 19: 5 (amplified)

Matt 19:5 "And said, For this reason a man shall leave his farther and mother and shall be united firmly (joined inseperably) to his wife, and the two shall become on flesh? [Gen. 1: 27: 2:24]

6 "So they are no longer two, but one flesh.  What therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder(seperate).

The Pharisees were talking to Jesus about divorce in regards to the Law's of Moses (being the Ten Commandments and all that goes with it as set forth by the Lord)

Later in verse 10, the disciples talked to Jesus about this saying:

Matt 19: 10 "The disciples said to Him, If the case of a man with his wife is like this, it is neither profitable nor advisable to marry"

And this is the part that confuses me.....

Matt 19: 11 "But He said to them, not all men can accept this saying, but it is for those to whom [the capacity to receive] it has been given.

12 "For there are eunuchs who have been born incapable of marriage: and there are eunuchs who have been made so by men: and there are eunuchs who have made themselves incapable of marriage for the sake of the kingdom of heaven.  Let him who is able to accept this accept it.

On the one hand Jesus tells us that from the date of creation, man was not supposed to be alone, and a mate was made for him, yet here he states that it better not to get married??

Help please

God bless

Hi Wicus,
I think it alsol depends on who and how one's partner is? Unless they are united in the perfect will of God, marriage can be a curse, instead of blessing..... am I right or wrong?
Mat
Grace and Peace, Wicus.

In addition to Jesus` words in Matthew, the (batchlor) apostle Paul addresses this issue in 1Corinthians, also. Chapter 7: 7-9,"For I would that all men were even as myself. But every man has his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that. (8) I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. (9) But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn."

A prospective husband has to reconcile Jesus` words in Matthew 22:37,".........Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind." There are probably some wives who would not want to play second fiddle to the Lord because of being jealous. That would put the man in a very difficult spot - in the middle. The choice is his.

I think Mat put the situation in proper prospective with his post.

Wishing you the best in Christ.
