Is it wrong to remarry?
Tags:
You are gonna have to give us a little more than just the question on this one sis, to be able to answer the question in an accurate biblical way.
There are only two reasons divorce and remarriage is allowed:
1. Adultery 2. The unbelieving husband/wife leaves (1 Cor. 7). I will share a bit more tonight if time permits, my lunch is over.
Is it wrong to remarry, if one has seperated for any other reason than the above ones.
English Standard Version (ESV)
25 Now concerning[a] the betrothed,[b] I have no command from the Lord, but I give my judgment as one who by the Lord's mercy is trustworthy. 26 I think that in view of the present[c] distress it is good for a person to remain as he is. 27 Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be free. Are you free from a wife? Do not seek a wife. 28 But if you do marry, you have not sinned, and if a betrothed woman[d] marries, she has not sinned. Yet those who marry will have worldly troubles, and I would spare you that. 29 This is what I mean, brothers: the appointed time has grown very short. From now on, let those who have wives live as though they had none, 30 and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no goods, 31 and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away.
32 I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. 33 But the married man is anxious about worldly things, how to please his wife, 34 and his interests are divided. And the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit. But the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband. 35 I say this for your own benefit, not to lay any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to the Lord.
:) Blessings
What if the wife is not the one to do the divorcing the husband is and he cheated and beat the woman?
The woman is free to remarry in such a situation.
Lord Bless,

thanks for the response:) I'm studying this subject and just wanted to know because you hear so many different things and the Bible does decifer between adultery and fornication...its kinda confusing..I mean can you imagine a family that is happy..lets say two kids..a husband and wife remarried bc of former abuse or adultery and then they have to split?
Here is what Jesus said and it is pretty clear as He uses the term "except" in relation to adultery. This is the exception that allows for remarriage.
Mat 19:8-19
He said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery."
I was told their is no reason to be remarried. because adultery is the same as stealing and lying. Now according to us of course it may not be the same but in God's eyes....just a thought..the scripture talks about adultery and fornication..Adultery is done during marriage and fornication is done before marriage. Here's why I am having a hard time with this question..I will go more into detail.
In Matthew the scripture says 5:32 "But I say unto you. That whosoever shall put away his wife saving for the cause of fornication causes her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
Then Galations 5;19-21 says "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Corinthians 6:16 says "What? Know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh."
The scripture does back it up that is why I am confused..well not confused just wondering about things that I always thought were true.
NO! It is not wrong to remarry, nor should you feel bad about it! As we grow older people change. Some for the better some for the worse, if you think about god's judgement your entire life then there would be no point in Jesus Christ coming in the first place. That burdon was taken off your shoulders 2012 years ago. This is the greatest thing about god and god's son, so if you are a believer in Jesus, please do not make this question burdensome to yourself please. How do you live life if you are worrying about god's judgement the whole time? Yes god's judgement is definately something to fear, but it is also something that Jesus should have taken off of your shoulders. I know this sounds wierd but I can assure you right now winter, even if people go to "hell". It is something that satan will try to bring you down with him to. Even if you are a sinner, everyone has fallen short of the glory of god, but that is the beauty of salvation my friend. Even if your body is thrown into the lake of fire, that STILL has nothing to do with going to hell. God makes people out of souls, which is why there is soul sleep. I will make a post on this tommorrow and you will understand what im trying to say a little bit more, but yes I can promise you that on that great day, re-marrying someone will not matter in this judgement, as long as you find love and are happy, god will love you. This is a guarantee. And I have previous experience in this matter not within my physical lifetime, but within my soul's lifetime. So take comfort in these words please.
Michael, Really? Soul sleep? The Word of God clearly outlines the guidelines for remarriage. Anything that is not in alignment with the commands and instructions that are written in God's Word is a sin. Jesus died for our sins. Through Him we have the free gift of new birth and become new creations. If you are thrown into the lake of fire it will be because you never accepted Christ as your Savior and were never born again. If you die and leave this life without accepting Christ as your Savior and being born again then your spirit will go to an eternal hell where the fire is not quenched which is not soul sleep. These are biblical truths. There are so many errors in your post but I will address a few very important ones.
Question: "What does the Bible say about soul sleep?"
Answer: “Soul sleep” is a belief that after a person dies, his/her soul “sleeps” until the resurrection and final judgment. The concept of “soul sleep” is not biblical. When the Bible describes a person “sleeping” in relation to death (Luke 8:52; 1 Corinthians 15:6), it does not mean literal sleep. Sleeping is just a way to describe death because a dead body appears to be asleep. The moment we die, we face the judgment of God (Hebrews 9:27). For believers, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:6-8; Philippians 1:23). For unbelievers, death means everlasting punishment in hell (Luke 16:22-23).
Present-day defenders of soul sleep include the Seventh Day Adventist church, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Christadelphians, and others.

Question: "What happens after death?"
Answer: Within the Christian faith, there is a significant amount of confusion regarding what happens after death. Some hold that after death, everyone “sleeps” until the final judgment, after which everyone will be sent to heaven or hell. Others believe that at the moment of death, people are instantly judged and sent to their eternal destinations. Still others claim that when people die, their souls/spirits are sent to a “temporary” heaven or hell, to await the final resurrection, the final judgment, and then the finality of their eternal destination. So, what exactly does the Bible say happens after death?
First, for the believer in Jesus Christ, the Bible tells us that after death believers’ souls/spirits are taken to heaven, because their sins are forgiven by having received Christ as Savior (John 3:16, 18, 36). For believers, death is to be “away from the body and at home with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:6-8; Philippians 1:23). However, passages such as 1 Corinthians 15:50-54 and 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 describe believers being resurrected and given glorified bodies. If believers go to be with Christ immediately after death, what is the purpose of this resurrection? It seems that while the souls/spirits of believers go to be with Christ immediately after death, the physical body remains in the grave “sleeping.” At the resurrection of believers, the physical body is resurrected, glorified, and then reunited with the soul/spirit. This reunited and glorified body-soul-spirit will be the possession of believers for eternity in the new heavens and new earth (Revelation 21-22).
Second, for those who do not receive Jesus Christ as Savior, death means everlasting punishment. However, similar to the destiny of believers, unbelievers also seem to be sent immediately to a temporary holding place, to await their final resurrection, judgment, and eternal destiny. Luke 16:22-23 describes a rich man being tormented immediately after death. Revelation 20:11-15 describes all the unbelieving dead being resurrected, judged at the great white throne, and then being cast into the lake of fire. Unbelievers, then, are not sent to hell (the lake of fire) immediately after death, but rather are in a temporary realm of judgment and condemnation. However, even though unbelievers are not instantly sent to the lake of fire, their immediate fate after death is not a pleasant one. The rich man cried out, “I am in agony in this fire” (Luke 16:24).
Therefore, after death, a person resides in a “temporary” heaven or hell. After this temporary realm, at the final resurrection, a person’s eternal destiny will not change. The precise “location” of that eternal destiny is what changes. Believers will ultimately be granted entrance into the new heavens and new earth (Revelation 21:1). Unbelievers will ultimately be sent to the lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15). These are the final, eternal destinations of all people—based entirely on whether or not they had trusted Jesus Christ alone for salvation (Matthew 25:46; John 3:36).

Amanda,
Before you start making absolute statements, you need to step back, remember that not everyone is as opinionated as yourself, and think if you are offending someone with your comments.
1.) You may believe you are reading scripture the correct way, and reaping absolute truths along the way, but I think everyone here is doing the best they can interpreting, and reflecting on what they read. Who says your understanding is more on target? Your Pastor? You? Whoever it is, can be wrong.
2.) Your understanding of Heaven and Hell, and what happens between death and Resurrection is modern compared to other beliefs taught within Christianity. I would look up more sources. When Athanasius of Alexandria was asked if he was going to Heaven, his response was "I hope in the Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth", and that was it. As Christians, I believe one should focus on the hope of the Resurrection, model our actions after the compassionate life of Jesus, and ask questions, while seeking truth. I feel it is dangerous to say you know what happens between death and Resurrection, or know anything about theological matters that are not apparent in our rational understanding.
3.) Jesus asked more questions, then he made statements.

Nathan,
When did God ever become rational? Who will ever know the mind of Christ? Amanda is quite capable of defending herself but what I do see in Amanda is a huuuuggggeee desire to know the Word. I've yet to read in her reply anything judgmental. Her words come from the Word. I agree that everyone is going to have their own interpretations but their interpretations should always be aligned with the Word, not from your spirit-guide from your last life.

It reminded me of that idiom of the pot calling the kettle black. It sounded like an absolute statement to me.
I realize I don't have all the truth in hand and I remain teachable. However there are certain doctrines that are essential and are true to the Word of God which we can know without doubting because Holy Spirit shows us. For instance, the Scriptures are the inspired and infallible and inerrant Word of God. God has existed from all eternity in three distinct Persons--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The deity of Christ is explicitly said in John 1:1. We are saved by grace through faith because of the death and resurrection of Jesus. To name a few.
What we believe about the Resurrection is very important and so is what we believe about Hell. We must believe in the reality of both heaven and hell. Our destiny after death does not change although our locale will change. We see ultimately in Scriptures that there will be a new heaven and a new earth and there is a lake of fire.
Luke 12:4-5
Back on topic, Ephesians 5:22-33 compares the union of husband and wife to that of Christ and the church. Marriage is a very important covenant in God's eyes. It is sad that there are so many divorces among believers.
