Anyone have any words of wisdom as how to best be able to remember verses of the Bible? And their location? I know what the Word says in some areas but I need to know how to find a particular verse when I need it.
I can't seem to remember the location of it.
Thanks,
Rita

Rita,
We will memorize some verses simply because we see them so often, such as Romans 3:23, but memorization overall has to be intentional. There are several good methods. I used to use 3x5 cards. On one side I printed the Book/chapter/verse (John 3:16) and on the other side the text. This enabled me to choose to recall the text by verse or verse by the text.
One mistake I think many well intentioned people make is when they determine they are going to memorize verses they try and memorize a large number all at once and burn out their brains and get frustrated. If a person chooses to memorize one verse a day they will have learned 365 (or 366 :-) in a year. As I memorize one I add it to the stack of 3x5 cards and then randomly review them periodically. The old addage "use it or lose it" applies here as well. Many of the verses will fade from memory if we do not periodically refresh our memories.
If one is techno and does not want to use the old 3x5 method you can do the same basic thing by creating a Power Point with the book/chapter/verse on one page followed by the text on another. The key here is to create a new file after between 15 to 20 verses. Otherwise it gets a little clumbersome.
Lastly, one of the toughest decisions is determining which verses one should memorize. Often we memorize verses based on topics such as evangelistic verses, encouraging verses or promises.
Hope that helps.

Homeschooling my children through ACC at the mo and they learn a verse with each subject. The pace is approx 30 pages long and they do 3-4 pages a day (a pace every 2-3 weeks approx) which almost invariably sees them writing out that verse every every day or perhaps second day. It is started for them as in this example early in the pace:
Buy the truth and _____________________ _______________________ _______________________
Proverbs 23:23
They are made to fill out the blanks and this continues through the pace until they are not given any words but simply the verse reference. By the time they get to the test they know it! Hopefully :-)
I find I am learning them to.
By the way the rest of that verse is "Buy the truth and sell it not" Proverbs 23:23. Much like finding the excellent pearl and selling everything you own to buy it - Matt 13:-45-46.
Hello beloved Rita (I have missed you my friend),
Two things that have worked for me are the following :
1. Bible study. As I study the word over and over again through the years, i find myself memorizing the addresses of the verses.
2. Write the verse or couple of verses you want to memorize on a 3 X 5 card and read the verse as soon as you weak up. Read it again at mid day and let it be the last thing you do before going to sleep.
Blessings
