Desmond,

Can you refine your question a little. Do you mean are we born into sin and are therefore apart of the fallen race prone to sin or are you asking do some people do certain kinds of sin due to genetic factors?

Lord Bless,

LT

Thats a great question LT and I really wanted to leave the question as open as possible so that all options could be taken into consideration.

With thanks in Him,

Desmond

Hi   what a question!!!!  We know from scripture we are born into sin therefore live a life of temptation. Easy answer.

Genetic factors well I can see that as well.  Family traits seem to carry on generation after generation  Phsycology uses  this knowledge to help many patience and even though many believers denounce this medicine  scripture I believe mentions the same generational  growth. Although the English translation calls this a curse as opposed to an illness.  Therefore I believe sin can be generational  ultimately genetic.

Praise The lord He has the formula to break it.

Hi, yes as Christians we are born into sin, and how quickly and easily can little children become demanding, jealous, selfish, angry, they are not taught these things. It's the sinful nature we are born with..

Re genetic factors and sin....I don't think a murderer begets a murderer, however the child of an abuser may abuse. This is not genetics but nurture (or lack of). I cannot think of any individual genetic sinful traits that people may carry. I suppose when you hear 'you're just like you're father', if you get angry. However, again If you grow up seeing someone not handle their anger it is likely that you may well have the same problem, having not been taught the alternative.

It's that old adage 'nurture vs nature'.

LucyP wish I could agree with you but how do explain the traits which I carried from my mother and once my friends and I met my mother it was realized. Didn't know my mom for 14 years.

according to medical science I am not alone  many adopted children have traits  carried from thier birth parents.

very interesting dean, yes, of course we have inherited personality traits, I guess I couldn't think of them as sinful, but yes I suppose they could be,  as I say its that age old adage that has puzzled mankind about nature vs nurture. Hmmmm, fascinating isn't it.

Oh  I am not necessarily saying the traits are sinful it is where the traits can lead you and as I commented earlier praise The Lord for His quidance.
Amen bro

Hi Lucy and thanks for your reply,

I think you are right about genetic factors and sin eg a murderer does not beget a murderer (but maybe a possible murderer?) Ezekiel 18:1-20 is very clear about genetic factors and sin.

Just wanted to share though Lucy that I'm sure you intended to write as non-Christians we were born into sin (and became born again as Christians to be released from the bondage of sin)

You're a great sister in the Lord!

Desmond

Yes Desmond, just re read what I wrote , thanks for that, that's what I meant, silly me! hehe God bless
Desmond, which parts of Ezekial 18:1-20 do you see as referring to being genetic. Isn't it more to do with seeing your father do things and not following. (v14).
Hi Lucy - genetic in the sense that any offspring would inherit the genes of their parents, so the son of the father in Ezekiel would have inherited his fathers (and mothers) genes
