You know I hear so many people say they don't hear about blood, sin, hell, etc being mentioned in the pulpits of churches. Have you ever considered that maybe you're going to the wrong church? I have never in my 40 years of being a Christian encountered a church who didn't mention these things. I know they are out there because I hear people talking about them. Well, I see them write about them. I guess that's the great thing about being in North Carolina & now Texas, you can find the true gospel in many many churches not to say they don't have their flops too. I just haven't been in one.

My brothers and sisters, repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand!

        Jesus called on people to repent.  This message was at the center of Jesus' message.  Repentance has three aspects to it:

A)  acknowledging our own sinfulness and the consequences of our sins; 

B)  contrition in that produces in us a heart that is humble and contrite; and

C)  it leads to change in us as "new creations" in Christ, being shaped and conformed to the image of Christ.

        The Greek word used in the New Testament that we translate as repent is metanoia.  It's a word with two parts: meta  meaning change; and noia  meaning understanding.

        We have English words that use both parts. For example, meta-morphosis means changing shapes and para-noia means having an alternate understanding. So metanoia  literally means changing one’s understanding.

        So, in order to repent we need to recognize our need to change our old way of understanding ourselves and the world around us. Repentance requires us to put on new lenses so we can see ourselves and the world differently from how we have seen it before.

        Have we come to acknowledge our own sinfulness, including the consequences of our sinful actions and choices and how they have broken our relationships with others and with God?

        When we hear the good news of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, how do we respond? Does it produce in us a heart that is humble and contrite?

        My own experience of repentance tells me that it is life-altering.  Repentance freed me to become a "new creation" in Christ and has enabled God's grace to transform me.  It requires us to be humble enough to confess that we’ve been wrong in the way we have seen ourselves and the world.

Yes! Plus a Contrite heart + a change of direction + freedom from the guilt of past sins + .... :)
