Some say it is, others say it isn't. I say not a chance.

I think R.C. Sproul said it best:

"First of all, it's not compatible with the Bible. Second of all, it's not compatible with science. ... Keep in mind, a question of the origin of life is not, in its final analysis, a biological question; it's a historical question. Biologists can pitch in by looking at the structures of cells and that sort of thing, but they can't really tell you how it started."

Here is Charles Hodge's classic work, "What is Darwinism?":

Actually,

Whether or not the footprints co-exist is up for debate even among creationists.

Evolution was drilled into my head, at public school.

So after I got saved, it took 'awhile' to believe that we were created in the image of God.

I wonder how many escape this drilling. I can only imagine how many will end up in hell due to this teaching in our schools. If the teaching just sends one to hell, then we all become responsible. God, help us to protect our children from this damnable doctrine of man that has permeated our society.

Amen.

I'd like to add, about 12 years ago, I checked out some books on Evolution, and Creationism. (did I spell that right?)

Evolution does not hold up, at all. The creation books, (one written by a scientist,)  made more sense. And no, we can't prove creation, by our current science, but we can show there are plenty of holes in evolution.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11

Is Evolution compatible with Christianity?

Basically it comes down to who and which book do you believe? Do you believe in the bible written by God or do you believe in the origins of the species by Charles Darwin?

Simple.

We all agree on the issue of natural selection. That is observable. What we disagree on is one kind changing into another kind or common ancestry. That strongly disagrees with Scripture and demands millions of year. Since there are no known examples of genetic mutations bringing about new and increased information in the DNA, it makes no sense to me whatsoever to buy into it. Since there is no obvious reason to discount the Word of God, I see no reason to doubt it. Scripture tells us that God created each kind after its own kind. The idea of common descent strongly contradicts this. Personally, the only reason I see for a Christian to buy into these ideas is simply to be friendly with the world. I am waiting on a better reason. I know this seems harsh but it is an honest viewpoint. Jesus clearly states that man was there in the beginning of creation which strongly contradicts almost every single one of these views. I guess you have decide. If man was there in the beginning of creation, virtually everything you have posted here is absolutely false.

I said, I said and I say - Right on my brother Roy.

Grazer,

>>Francis Collins, who is a Christian, agrees with the conclusion of common descendency on the strength of the scientific data and he should know a thing or 2 about the data, he was the leader of the project that mapped the entire human genome and he is not alone in taking that position.

The elements God has used to create this world can be found in all his creation in different degrees. Common substance is a reality, but does not mean that the reason for such is evolution. With all due respect to Collins, I can care less what he thinks when he is in direct opposition with the word. There is a different aspect to this argument which is seldom talked about. I don't have the time to get into it right now, but it has to do with this verses:

18 The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. 19 As the Scriptures say,

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise
and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.”[e]

20 So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. 21 Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. 22 It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom. 23 So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.

24 But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles,[f] Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.

The problem with modern evolutionary theory is the teaching that man is the end of an extremely long process that began with a single cell. What does the Bible say:

Gen 1:27  So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.   NIV

I suppose if this verse were left by itself without further explanation, one might erroneously say or think that this was the result of a very long millions of years process. However, this verse does not stand alone. It is explained and further explained that creation was a six day long process. Then, just in case there would be some that would attempt to say that those days were only representations of very long periods of time, Jesus clearly lets us know that this was not the case. He says:

Mark 10:6  "But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.'   NIV

If Jesus was truly God then His Word would necessarily have to be true. He cannot lie or say something mistakenly that was not true.

It cannot be both. You cannot say that man is the result of a very long millions of years process and also say that he was there at the beginning of creation. The only way for the words of Jesus to be true would be that the creation story in Genesis and confirmed throughout Scripture is also true. The six day report from God would have to be just that - six days. It could not be millions of years for the words of our Lord to be correct.

Was man there in the beginning of creation? Grazer, Jesus says he was. Your sources are saying he came millions of years later. I am only responding to your former statement that you were an evolutionist and the implied suggestions that those who still believe in the literal words as being left behind somewhere in previous centuries. Thanks for your invitation to the 21st century but I would like for you to reexamine the truth of Scripture from the very beginning of time as we know it and the words of Christ a couple of millenniums ago.

Science and Scripture have never been at war. They have always been in agreement as truth will always be in agreement. Most of the evolutionary theories you are discussing are not true science but philosophies and ideas of those who simply do not want to submit to their Creator. The heathen are still raging and I have absolutely no desire to get into bed with them. I still see no proof. It is only conjecture. The heathen hope their explanation is true and that they will not have to stand before an almighty Creator God.

It is one or the other. It cannot be both. It is either billions of years or six days. What a shame that so many are departing from Scripture and following after the heathen. Is Britain lost as a result of buying into this explanation? Only a loving God could call them back. I pray He will. It would behoove the American church to pay close attention to what has happened to the British for buying into this concept. We are making the same mistake.

The Bible makes sense. I don't interpret those things as literal which are obviously intended to be representative. I don't necessarily believe that when I see Jesus that I will see this huge sword coming out of His mouth. I don't think He is a literal door. There are obvious representations in Scripture. The Bible is full of beautiful pictures that one can see mentally. However, when the Bible speaks in a way that demands a literal interpretation, I do so. I see no reason to believe that man was not there in the beginning of creation which would necessarily mean that creation would have had to be done in a short time frame such as six days. His Word demands a literal interpretation of that one by other Scripture.
I would believe that the physical heavens and physical earth are the same age.
