All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I've done a lot of things that I shouldn't have in my life and im only 19. But yesterday, while drunk, I robbed someones money and ipod out of their truck. I knew the instant I was doing it that it wasn't right. I have no idea who's things I stole, and I felt so bad after that I just gave it to my friend who was with me to try to get it off my mind. When I sobered up I didnt know what to do, and thinking about it, I will never find the guy that I stole from. I want to ask God to forgive me but that wont make things right with the guy that I stole from will it? So how can I be forgiven and actually not feel so bad about this if that guy needed that money really bad and I just took it?

All I do for fun is get drunk. I still think about God and I have started to believe that God wants me to be happy, so he must be ok with the way I live. I do illegal things like there is no law, yet I feel like I am in a relationship with God because I try to never do anything that will affect or hurt anyone else but myself.

Then I will stop sometimes and think to myself, wow, Im not a good person at all, what have I done? and I want to be forgiven.. but I have ask so many times and I know that I will keep partying whenever I can, and now i dont know what to do. I like having fun and for me that means I should be drunk or on a drug, its also the only way that I will have any confidence to talk to people. Also I honestly feel like if i dont drink alcohol anymore, I wont have any friends as all my friends drink and party on a regular basis, and I had no friends for most of my life so thats not an option.

Hi Jonathan,

The choice between "partying our days away" and living each day for Christ is a decision we all must make.

We can live in a way that brings the most "fun", or in a way pleasing to the Lord (which we soon discover is far more satisfying than anything else we previously did).

I lived from one party to the next, from one drunken night to the next throughout highschool and into my 20's.

I have one question for you: those drinking buddies of yours, you know the ones you feel all brotherly with as you all chug down your beer? Would you imagine a 3 day camping trip with these people with NO ALCOHOL? would you all get along as well as you do when you're all drinking? Would you feel confident being sober around them for 3 whole days, or would you be afraid that they'd see how "boring" you really are, and decide you're not "cool" enough?

All I can say is that friendships based on drunkeness are not real. Just like you only stole because you were drunk, just like your friends and brother only slept with your ex because they were drunk, YOU ALL ARE ONLY FRIENDS BECAUSE YOU ARE DRUNK.

When I stopped drinking, I lost contact with most of the people I used to hang around with. Why? Because we were never really friends- we were drunk together. There's a BIG difference.

Also, when I stopped drinking I had to face the fact that I'm not a witty, hilarious, outgoing, exhuberant person. That was the booze... but I like who I am much better... I'm no longer living a fiction, pretending to be someone I was never meant to be.

I pray the Lord bless you with His peace and that you may know the truth that:

as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"--

Excellent!

Amen to that Roy!

Jonathan,

On your profile you say you are here to try to find out if you can be forgiven and here you say you feel like there is no way you can be forgiven.

Let me simply tell you what God says about your concerns:

English Standard Version (©2001)

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

The verse above has a tremendous amount of wealth in it, but I will keep it as simple as possible. What God wants more than all else we can do for him, is for us to be extremely broken with sorrow that leads to repentance. Ask God to give you that type of true repentance. Ask him to change your heart by awakening you to the seriousness of your sins. You will forever be in Hell if you don't. God hates sin. You have sinned against him, so you need to repent.

God will NEVER reject whosoever comes to Him. The way God changes people differs in the experiences individuals may have of how God regenerated them/renewed them, but only God can change you, so repent and receive Jesus as your Lord and savior.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

If you truly want to be forgiven and you desire rest from yourself, come sinner, come and repent. Test and see how good my God is. How amazing life with Christ is. All the pleasures of this world and the highest accomplishments one can attain through our efforts are but rubbish/trash in comparison to the life we have in Christ.

"This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. Now unto the King eternal immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen."—1 Timothy 1:15-17.

If you are today the chief of sinners, do not despair with worldly sorrow that leads to nothing, nor turn away in anger; for we are going to say to you at this hour, in the name of the merciful God, that his Son, Jesus Christ, has come into the world to save sinners, even the very chief. My God is s good.

Listen to the words of an old saint:

Come, poor sinner, out of the depths praise him who descended into the depths for you! Chief of sinners, adore him who is to you the Chief among ten thousand, and the Altogether Lovely! You black sinners, who have gone to the very brink of damnation by your abominable sins, rise to the utmost heights of enthusiastic joy in Jesus your Lord! Put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, and all manners of sin and of blasphemy shall be forgiven unto you; and as you receive such a pardon you shall burst out into new-made hymns to God your Savior. "Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." O you guiltiest of the guilty, the apostle Paul speaks to you, and stands before you as the bearer of God's white flag of mercy. Surrender to the King eternal, and there is pardon for you, and deliverance from the wrath to come. Thirty-five years Paul lived in sin. Twenty years after that, when he was older than I am, he wrote these words, "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief." Is there not some thirty-five years' old fellow here to-night who had better turn over a new leaf? Is there not some woman here of that age who has had more than enough of sin? Is it not time that you turned unto the Lord and found a new and better life? Turn them, Lord: turn them, and they shall be turned! Make them live and they shall live unto thee, world without end. Amen and Amen. (Spurgeon)

Is there not one young Jonathan here who would repent and be made new?

Let me tell you who my king is:

Jonathan,

Do you want to be healed?

“Do you want to be healed?” 7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.” 8 Jesus said to him, r“Get up, take up your bed, and walk.

r Matt. 9:6, 7; Mark 2:9, 11, 12; Luke 5:24, 25
The Holy Bible : English Standard Version. Wheaton : Standard Bible Society, 2001, S. Jn 5:8

What Jesus is saying is to make a move towards your healing (forgiveness). Are you willing to do that?

Rita

Hi Jonathan, God bless you!

You can still turn your life around. It's not too late. You're so young. Why are you wasting your life so needlessly? You are mistaken, about the only hurting yourself thing. It hurts God's feelings. God has feelings too. A good place to start is telling God you're sorry. Feet is right, Jesus will forgive you.

Your friends have watched you get drunk to the point you don't remember (blackouts on what you did) or you do foolish things and harmful things. They aren't friends. I know because my daughter went through a short destructive period. All of this is what I told my daughter. I'm saying it with lots of love and caring, you need to stop drinking as soon as possible. If your friends will not honor that decision, then you need to find new friends. Look for Christian friends and quality, not quantity. Those were hard words to say, but my daughter has stopped drinking completely and you can too.

Love,

Mary
