All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

how can you fully adhere to this commandment
if the parents are let's say bad parents( we all know they're are some rubbish parents out there)
who don't deserve their own children).
we all hear on the news and read in the papers all
over the world some of the despicable unimaginable
things some parents have done to their own
children.  or their are those parents that no
matter what are just not cut out to be
good parents.
how do you get over a volatile relationship with
your parents through the word of god?

Christ's commandment is love. Love your neighbor as yourself. If a person tries to love everyone as they love themselves, love will flourish.

We need to look to ourselves for perfection. Once we find it in ourselves, we will find it in everyone else.

When we pray the prayer that Jesus gave His disciples, we pray that God forgives our *debts* (wrongs) as we forgive another's wrongs. (If we can't forgive others, how can God forgive us?)

Start with love and forgiveness and end with love and forgiveness.

I was less than a perfect parent. Regardless of the pain I caused my kids, they have forgiven me and they love me. Sometimes we have to go to God and ask us how to forgive great wrongs. It might not happen over night but if you strive to love, it will happen.

I had less than a perfect parent. (My father) He caused us all a great deal of pain. I forgave him years ago. I am not so sure that my siblings have, however, but I pray for that forgiveness as he died in 1963 and he can't feel the hate or anger anymore. The only thing that can be felt is the pain that my siblings may continue to feel. Hate and jealousy are the two emotions that you feel and it hurts you---not the person you feel it toward.

I am also forgiving other people for the wrong that I thought they caused me. In doing this, and in some cases it was a struggle, I have grown to not only love them but to appreciate them as well. Maybe not the hurt they have caused but for the qualities that I see in them now. As I try to see good qualities in others and forget the bad, I am able to develop great feeling for them.

My prayer is that God help you develop into the type of Christian that He wants you to be and as you grow, you will correct your harsh feelings toward others, including your parents.

Blessings to you as you grow in the Lord...

As I taught my children. and now some grandchild.  Respect for their parents and others is, paramount. It will allow them to have respect for themselves.  I believe one of the reasons, God gave that Commandment was for that reason.  To humble ourselves before our parents, will allow us to honor God in a more perfect fashion.  To be able to do that when, parents have not earned the right yet, by obedience we honor them.  So in like manner we show honor to God, by obedience to His desires.  When we do that we win, we win every time.
