Forgiveness

We're commanded to do it.  Doesn't mean we're going to FEEL forgiving.  That's why I keep feeling as if Jesus telling Peter 70 x 7 times was more than just saying forgive them every time, but to forgive over and over until we get it down into our hearts.  It takes the willingness to say we forgive and God's help to bring us to the point where we FEEL we've forgiven. 

No where does the Bible admonish us to keep going back for abuse though.  In fact it says if a brother sins against you, to confront them, and then to take a witness, and then to bring it to the church, then lastly to treat them as a pagan.  We're to forgive those who hurt us, but not be a sucker to stay and let them keep hurting us.  We're to be wise in that respect.  Forgiveness is more for us than for them in the end at any rate.  God's commands are the best way to live even though it doesn't feel the best.  Carrying around unforgiveness brings bitterness to a person.  It eats away at them little by little.  So God tells us to forgive because He knows what unforgiveness does to us.
