Hating fear can help you overcome. God didn't give us a spirit of fear but of sound mind. So calm down and think wisely of how you are going to overcome it.

Brother Cyril, you missed a word. You missed the word power. It is not hate that causes fear to back down, although when you stand your ground, fear will back down.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)
The spirit we have been given is of power, love and a sound mind. Think of it this way, it's a spirit of power, a spirit of love and a spirit of a sound mind.
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. (1 John 4:18)
We live love. We walk with the love of God in our lives. Perfect love casts out fear. I have never seen God's love fail.
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. (1 Corinthians 13:13)
Charity is God's love.

Hi there Mary.
Thank you so much for the encouraging words. What meant was the way of dealing with your fears is to be firm and standing your ground. With a sound mind think and deal with that fear making sure that you are in control of your situation show you fear of the power that you have been granted by God.

Somebody I know of says...Mind, behave yourself...when he's feeling fear. He talks to himself. :-) It works. I've tried it. I'll just tell myself...Stop that! I can't help every thought that pops up, but I don't have to let it stay in my head. I had a lot of spiritual trauma when I was a kid. So a harsh memory can pop in my head suddenly. Sometimes things around me will trigger a memory. It took a while to overcome it. My current response is...In the name of Jesus Christ, shut up/buzz off. That scared kid seems like a long time ago.

i know its not easy but to fight fear you nred to face it. Because you are not alone God is with us he will never leave us

We who are genuinely born again ONLY are able to overcome fear. The reason is that the Holy Spirit has taken RESIDANCE in our hearts. In order for the H.S. to resise in us He had to "overthrow" the Satan who has been resident from our conception. (All humans are conceived in sin--the SIN of Adam or Adamic-sin). This is the SIN-nature that is evident even in little babies.
Now, a REAL Born Again Child of God has the Holy Spirit in him/her to do battle against Satan's onslaughts. Once we ETCH this truth into our hearts, then we can be rid of fear. It's good to remember that FEAR and FAITH are not able to sit side by side holding hands. If fear, it must vanish in the presence of FAITH. No question about it. So the problem is not with FEAR but with our lack of faith. Saint Peter feared the billowing waves around him and he started to go down. As long as he had FAITH in the Lord, he was able to walk on water. Pl read Mat. 14:22 ff.
It;s well to remember that FEAR is natural. Because of it humans have survived. Imagine children in Africa where lions, tigers and leopards etc live close to human habitations. What would happen to them if they did not have NATURAL FEAR in them? Wouldn't they be all dead? So fear has been put into human hearts (even animals) so they would survive. But when it comes to fear we BORN AGAIN believers have in us, we are not alone to fight against it. Like Peter had Jesus to "give a hand" in his moment of fear, we have the Holy Spirit to fight against it.
Just remember that FEAR must flee in front of FAITH. These two can not sit side by side.

Is fear a demonic oppression? If so, how are Christians 'striken' with oppression?Also, how would you rid yourself of this 'demon?'

Not all fear is DEMONIC. The Creator God has put NATURAL fear into every living creature so that when danger comes the natural fear kicks in and we run away from the source of the danger to life and limb. First Peter 5: 7 ff teach this TRUTH:
7. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary THE DEVIL , as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
On top of natural fear that is "built into our minds" the Devil puts more. Satan takes advantage of our WEAKNESSES all the time.
The REMEDY for Satanic oppression/depression/fear is RESIST him steadfastly in FAITH as in V. 9 above.
What I have given above applies ONLY to those who are GENUINELY Born Again by the Holy Spirit. There are millions upon millions of COIN (Christian only in Name) followers who will not be able to resist Satan because they belong to him and NOT Jesus Christ. Pl STUDY John ch. 3 to get at the truth about being GENUINELY Born Again. Also this verse:
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
