All About GOD

All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

I always thought 'grinders' meant teeth, but some some newer translations say, it's grinding stone, and people stop grinding food.

King James Version
and the grinders cease because they are few

Holman Christian Standard Bible
the women who grind cease because they are few,

Good News Translation
Your teeth will be too few to chew your food

New Living Translation
Your teeth will be too few to do their work,

New American Standard
the grinding ones stand idle because they are few

GOD'S WORD Translation
the women at the mill stop grinding because there are so few of them

Your thoughts? anybody want to dig into the original greek?

thanks, John

John,

According to my refrences this is the only verse that this particular Hebrew word is used and is defined as follows:

2912.   ÷j'f; t\aÆchan, taw-khan’; a prim. root; to grind meal; hence, to be a concubine (that being their employment):— grind (-er).

Thanks, and VERY interesting, because I think the rest of the passage is a poetic look at getting old.

Very Very interesting, Thank you,

John
