All About GOD - Growing Relationships with Jesus and Others

Hi everyone,

When you are out and about sharing your faith/witnessing/reaching out, have you encountered anyone who says something that makes you wonder " did they really say that?"

Three examples that I can remember:

1. I was in a Bible study with a Christian guy who attended a local church (he also played in the band) and we were doing a study on "the cross" during which I asked him: "so what does the cross (ie crucifixion) mean to you?"  His answer - " to me it means a guy on a lump of wood "!

2. Another guy I got to talking with was an ex- hindu who said he had converted to Christianity. In the course of our conversation he made a claim; " I believe Hinduism and Christianity are one and the same"!

3. Lastly: there was a guy who was wearing shorts (when we had summer here in England) and on the back of his right calf there was a tattoo of Jesus on the cross (not the words but an image) so I went up to him and started talking about the tattoo. These are a couple of things that he said as we talked ~ " I believe in Jesus but I don't want to become a Christian" and " I think that the Bible should be burned "!

Have you got any "did they really say that " experiences to tell us of?

3. Appears to be a reprobate, that is, somebody so entrenched in this world they don't see anything wrong with it.

Mine is:

A woman who attended a church stated that suicide is the only unforgivable sin because you can't ask forgiveness after you commit. I told her you could ask in advance. But one church had taught me that the only unforgivable sin is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit - I'd like to get other people's input as to what that means, that church says that it's rejecting the Holy Spirit - From what I read it looks more like attributing acts of God to the devil which would be a form of idolatry.

Hello Vincent,

I would think that what was meant, when you were told that the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is rejecting the Holy Spirit, is rejecting his work.

Just a friendly reminder and advice brother, in a large community such as this one it is best not to mention denominational names since we have such a diversity of them. From my experience in on line interactions is best to leave denominational titles out of our discussions. We are all one in Christ anyways beloved.

Blaphemy against the Holy Spirit is as you stated: denying the work of the Spirit.

Blessings

I understand. I only mentioned that so people here would know that I'm a believer in the Truth, not one of the counterfeits - although I've attended other gatherings who accept the divinity of Jesus. Anyway, I'll leave denominational labels out of my posts. The number of disagreements between them I find embarrassing for as you say, we are all one in Christ (who is the Truth, and the Truth is one.).

Yes Nancy I can see that and hopefully the three examples I gave don't fall into that category - I just found it incredulous what those guys said especially as they claimed to be believers in Jesus. I would certainly not want to poke fun at lost souls and appreciate you bringing up that point. Thanks for that,

In Christ,

Desmond

It is interesting too, my roommate claims to believe in God, not in a God who made a body for Himself, entered it and lived on earth as a human being who was God incarnate. I told him that if he rejects the message, he rejects God.
