What exactly is the definition of OSAS?

I have been working diligently on understanding the issue of Once Saved Always Saved.  LT posted a very strong set of questions concerning the meaning of salvation; whether one can lose their salvation; and other aspects of this complex subject.  I have been reading, researching, and writing for the longest time trying to provide an intelligent, Scriptural response for LT and all my brothers-and-sisters-in-Christ.

However, it is frustrating, because one source will define OSAS one way while the next source will state the same as an example of an erroneous definition!

So, in the interest of my sanity :=)

Dearly beloved, could someone, preferably someone who supports OSAS, give me a good working definition of Once Saved Always Saved.  Please!

Also, is OSAS is the same as:

Unconditional Security?

Perseverance of the Saints?

Predestination?

Double Predestination?

Foreknowledge?

Eternal Election?

I ask this because I am searching to understand the meaning of OSAS in light of the teachings of St. Augustine, St. Thomas, John Calvin, Martin Luther et.al.  and of course they often will use different terminology than we do today.

Thanks!  Sharon

35 Jesus said to them, x“I am the bread of life; ywhoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. 37 zAll that athe Father gives me will come to me, and bwhoever comes to me I will never cast out. 38 For cI have come down from heaven, not to do dmy own will but dthe will of him ewho sent me. 39 And fthis is the will of him who sent me, gthat I should lose nothing of hall that he has given me, but iraise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that  everyone who jlooks on the Son and kbelieves in him lshould have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

The best source of making a determination on your question, is God's Will as recorded in the New Testament. I have posted two different sections of verses...one from John (Christ Himself spoke it) and when from Ephesians (spoken by Paul.)

Elected=chosen

God has the ability of seeing from beginning to end. He saw each of us before we were born through the end of our lives. He had the foreknowledge of how we would react to the invitation of the Holy Spirit. Therefore He had foreknowledge of our choice.

To keep the sacrifice of Christ, He designated that should we accept Christ as our Savior, we would remain secure in Him. Christ's sacrifice was the final sacrifice for cleansing. The sacrifices of the Old Testament we temporary. Not so with the Blood of Christ. The Bible says there is no greater sacrifice than laying one's life down for a friend.

Because the Holy Spirit abides in us at Salvation, He keeps teaching our spirit and comforting us throughout our lives.

This is my security...the Word of God.

Blessings,

Rita

Rita,

Thank you so much for your response!  I'm still a little bit confused.  So, are you saying that ASAS means that God foreknows who will accept Him and so calls these His elect?  So, OSAS would be defind as Foreknowledge?

Blessings!

Sharon.

Sharon,

That is exactly what I believe.

We don't surprise God in anything we do. He already knows...not only that, He has always known. The reason why we don't understand this is that we tend to look at God from what we know and what we are able to do. God has attributes that we can't even fathom.

God has made certain promises and made certain statements. We need to understand that God isn't a liar, nor does He talk out His "hat". What He speaks is truth. We need to understand that we are so much less than he is, with none of His attributes. That is why we must believe in what His Word says.

Our mind (soul) can't fathom his truths. Ours spirit, being taught by the Holy Spirit can, but i truly think that some of the time our soul (mind) doesn't listen to our spirit.

Once we develop a firm understand of Body, Soul, Spirit, we can then see why our souls aren't always right, but that we are still saved. What we then need to work on is training our soul to listen to our spirit.

It all starts with believing that the Bible is truly the Word of God. When we understand and believe that, we can then see that we are saved as we accept Christ as Savior and we will remain that way.

I think that the reason that people don't understand this is because they don't understand Body, Soul, Spirit.

Blessings as you study God's Word for your life,

Rita

Sharon, (additional thought)

Foreknowledge belongs to God alone. The same as predestination does. We can't predestine anyone to anything.

Rita

Rita,

Blessings to you as well my sister-in-Christ!

Sharon;.
